1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor most homes, start with a power station around 1,000Wh and at least 1,500W of continuous AC output. That combination can cover a refrigerator or freezer, modem and router, LED lighting, phones and laptops for a short outage, provided the inverter handles compressor startup. Choose roughly 1,800–4,000Wh, higher surge capability, expansion batteries or solar recharging when you must run a well pump, sump pump, several appliances, or loads for more than a day.
The right choice is not determined by watt-hours alone. Watt-hours (Wh) describe energy capacity and therefore runtime; continuous watts and surge watts determine whether a motor or compressor can start. The recommendations below separate those decisions and identify where each current model fits.

How to size a power station for your appliances
1. Add the energy each load uses
Capacity is measured in watt-hours. A 100W device operating continuously for 10 hours consumes about 1,000Wh before conversion losses. Real AC runtime is lower because the battery, inverter and power supplies do not convert energy perfectly. Temperature, battery age and the appliance’s duty cycle also change the result.
Use this planning equation:
Required battery capacity ≈ (watts × hours of operation) ÷ total system efficiency.
Because you usually do not know the exact efficiency under your load, treat the result as a sizing floor rather than a promise. Leave additional capacity instead of planning to drain a battery completely.

2. Check continuous output
Every appliance has a running draw. Add the running watts of the devices you intend to operate at the same time and choose an inverter whose continuous rating is higher than that total. A station can have ample Wh yet shut down if its inverter is undersized.
3. Check motor and compressor surge
Refrigerators, freezers, well pumps and sump pumps use motors. Their starting demand can be substantially higher than their running demand. Read the appliance nameplate or manual for locked-rotor, starting or surge watts; if that figure is missing, measure the appliance with a plug-in power meter during startup or ask the manufacturer for it. Compare the measured or published peak with the station’s surge rating, not merely its continuous rating.
4. Account for every simultaneous load
List what must run together during an outage: refrigerator, freezer, pump, medical equipment, communications gear, lights and charging. A refrigerator cycling on while a pump starts can create a brief combined peak that is much higher than the average load. If you can stagger high-demand devices, you may need less inverter capacity, but do not rely on timing when a safety-critical pump can start unexpectedly.

What a 1,000Wh-class station can realistically cover
A unit around 1,000Wh is generally a short-duration essential-load solution. It is well suited to a refrigerator or freezer, modem and router, a few LED lights, phones and laptops, or a CPAP when those loads are managed rather than all operated at maximum power continuously.
Refrigerators cycle: the compressor runs, stops and restarts as the temperature changes. Therefore, a nameplate wattage multiplied by the entire outage duration overstates or understates actual use depending on the duty cycle. Keep the doors closed, place the appliance in a cool location away from sunlight, and use the station’s display or a plug-in meter to observe real consumption.
For a CPAP, identify whether the humidifier and heated hose are enabled. Those options can materially change consumption. The machine’s label or an overnight meter reading is more useful than a generic internet estimate.
Networking equipment is a small continuous load but a high-priority one: a short UPS transfer can prevent a modem or router reboot. The DELTA 3 Plus’s listed 10ms switchover is specifically relevant to this use.
When to move to 1,800–4,000Wh or an expandable system
Well and sump pumps
Pumps combine high running demand with a difficult startup surge. EcoFlow gives a manufacturer example of the DELTA Pro 3 running a 1,200W well pump for 2.7 hours. That is a scenario-specific example, not an independent test or a guarantee for every pump; actual results vary with cycling, pipe pressure, inverter losses and battery condition. A sump pump that starts automatically should have enough surge headroom to start while other essential loads are operating.
Multi-day outages
Once an outage extends beyond a day, the issue is energy replenishment as much as initial capacity. A 2,000Wh-or-larger battery, expansion packs, or a solar array can reduce the need to ration refrigeration, communications and medical equipment. Solar only extends an outage when panels receive useful sunlight, are correctly oriented and connected through compatible inputs; cloudy weather and shading reduce the harvest.

Several large appliances
Running a refrigerator, freezer, pump and cooking or heating equipment together can exceed a portable inverter even when the battery is large enough. Select a system by the highest simultaneous running and starting load, then by the number of hours you need. If the calculation approaches the inverter limit, either stagger loads or move to a higher-output configuration.
Model-by-model guidance
EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus: the balanced starting point
TechRadar’s October 13, 2026 roundup lists 1,024Wh of capacity, 2,400W of output and a 10ms UPS switchover, and names this model the overall pick. Those numbers make it a logical first candidate for households that need refrigerator, freezer, communications, lighting and device charging rather than whole-home operation.
- Why it fits: The 2,400W output leaves more headroom than many 1,000Wh-class units for compressor startup, while 1,024Wh keeps the unit in a portable size class.
- Where it is limited: One kilowatt-hour is not multi-day energy for a pump-heavy or appliance-heavy load. Measure your devices and plan a recharge source before assuming it will last through an extended outage.
- UPS consideration: The listed 10ms transfer can help keep routers and computers online, but test the actual equipment before making it the sole backup for a critical system.
BLUETTI AC240P: more stored energy in the middle class
TechRadar’s table lists the BLUETTI AC240P at 1,843Wh, placing it between common 1,000Wh and 2,000Wh classes. That extra stored energy can be valuable when the inverter’s output and surge ratings also match your appliances. The cited table does not establish its continuous output or UPS transfer behavior, so verify those specifications for your region and intended loads before purchase.
EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3: runtime examples for demanding loads
EcoFlow’s product page gives two example runtimes for the DELTA Pro 3: 27.3 hours for a 120W refrigerator and 2.7 hours for a 1,200W well pump. These are manufacturer scenarios, not independent measurements. They illustrate why average refrigerator demand can produce a long runtime while a pump’s high draw consumes stored energy quickly. Do not transfer either figure to a different refrigerator, pump, temperature, battery age or configuration.
Expandable DELTA Pro and TITAN-family systems
When the requirement is selected-circuit backup for multiple days, a base portable unit may be only one part of the system. Larger expandable families, including EcoFlow TITAN and DELTA Pro systems, can be configured with additional battery capacity and solar equipment. EcoFlow documents Smart Home Panel integration for compatible systems. These installations are closer to a home backup system than a carry-in power bank: confirm compatibility, maximum input and output, and local electrical requirements.
Runtime planning with real appliance measurements
Build a load worksheet
- Write down each appliance that must operate, its running watts and its starting or surge watts.
- Record how many hours each device must run per day. For cycling appliances, use an energy meter over a representative day if possible.
- Separate continuous loads, such as a router, from intermittent loads, such as a refrigerator compressor or pump.
- Add simultaneous running watts and compare that total with continuous AC output.
- Compare the largest likely startup combination with the station’s surge rating.
- Convert the daily energy total to Wh, then add a reserve for conversion losses, colder or hotter conditions, battery aging and uncertainty.
Use the station display as a feedback loop
After connecting an appliance, observe the live watts while it starts and while it runs. Note the battery percentage after several hours, not just the initial reading. If the display shows a repeated overload, disconnect nonessential loads and investigate startup demand before reconnecting. A stable low-watt reading does not prove that the appliance’s next startup will be safe; the peak event may occur later.

UPS operation, recharge and installation choices
UPS behavior
A power station with a UPS mode can pass utility power to connected loads and switch to battery when the grid fails. Transfer time matters most for computers, routers, storage devices and other electronics that may reboot during an interruption. Check the manufacturer’s stated transfer time and whether the mode supports the outlets you plan to use. Test with each critical device because “UPS” does not guarantee compatibility with every power supply.

Grid charging is usually the fastest way to prepare between outages. Charge the station before severe weather, keep firmware current when the manufacturer requires it, and avoid storing it at an extreme temperature. Follow the manual’s recommended storage charge and inspection schedule rather than assuming every lithium unit uses the same setting.
Solar recharging
Solar panels can extend a multi-day outage, but the panel wattage printed on a package is a laboratory maximum. Real harvest depends on sun angle, cloud, shade, temperature, cable losses and the station’s solar-input limits. Confirm connector type, voltage and current limits before attaching panels. EcoFlow and Anker SOLIX describe compatible solar and home-integration accessories, but compatibility is model-specific.
Transfer switches and smart panels
A transfer switch, inlet box or smart home panel can feed selected household circuits instead of running extension cords to individual appliances. These components must be rated for the station and the home’s wiring. Installation may require a licensed electrician and must follow local electrical rules. Never connect a portable station to a wall outlet in an attempt to energize household wiring; use an approved transfer method.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Portability, battery chemistry and safety
- Weight and handling: A mid-size station may be movable by one person, while expansion batteries and high-output systems can require two people or a fixed location. Check handles, wheels, cable reach and ventilation space before an outage.
- Battery chemistry: LiFePO4 systems are a sensible preference when the manufacturer publishes battery, cycle and safety information. Chemistry alone does not replace proper charging, temperature control or overload protection.
- Ventilation: Portable battery units do not produce combustion exhaust, but they still need the clearance and charging conditions specified in their manuals. Do not cover vents or operate a damaged, swollen or unusually hot unit.
- Combustion-generator distinction: Never operate a gasoline generator indoors, in a garage or near doors and windows because of carbon-monoxide risk. Portable battery stations have different hazards and electrical limits; do not treat them as interchangeable with a combustion generator.
- Cables and moisture: Keep connectors dry, use outdoor-rated extension cords where appropriate, and protect the station from rain unless its manual explicitly permits outdoor exposure.
Choosing by outage scenario
Short outage, refrigerator and communications
Choose a 1,000Wh-class station with at least 1,500W continuous output, verified compressor surge capability and UPS functionality if internet access matters. Keep the refrigerator closed and use the display to decide when to recharge or disconnect lower-priority devices.

Overnight CPAP plus refrigeration
Measure the CPAP with the humidifier and heated hose in the exact configuration you use. Add its overnight energy to the refrigerator’s measured consumption and leave reserve capacity. A 1,000Wh-class station may work for a short outage, but a larger battery reduces the risk of rationing medical equipment.

Automatic sump-pump protection
Prioritize surge rating and automatic behavior. Confirm that the pump can start while the refrigerator or other essential loads are connected. If the pump is the safety-critical load, size around its startup requirement first and add battery capacity for the expected runtime.
Multi-day outage with solar
Use a 2,000Wh-or-larger or expandable configuration, then match solar input to the station’s voltage, current and connector limits. Plan for cloudy periods by keeping a reserve and reducing discretionary loads. A panel cannot replenish energy faster than the station’s input circuitry allows.
Selected-circuit home backup
For circuits rather than individual plugs, use a compatible transfer switch or smart panel installed according to local code. Confirm that the station’s continuous and surge output covers every circuit that may operate simultaneously. This is a system-design task, not simply a larger battery purchase.

Common mistakes and fixes
Mistake: buying by Wh alone
Fix: Check continuous and surge watts first. A large battery with an undersized inverter can still fail to start a compressor.
Mistake: using a refrigerator’s rated watts as its 24-hour consumption
Fix: Measure a representative cycle and account for compressor starts, ambient temperature and door openings.
Mistake: assuming a manufacturer runtime applies universally
Fix: Treat examples such as the DELTA Pro 3’s 27.3-hour refrigerator and 2.7-hour well-pump figures as scenario-specific illustrations, then calculate from your own measured load.
Mistake: ignoring recharge logistics
Fix: Decide in advance whether grid charging, solar, a vehicle outlet or another approved source will restore energy. Verify every input limit and cable connection.
Mistake: backfeeding a house outlet
Fix: Use a properly installed transfer switch or smart panel, or connect appliances directly with suitable cords. Ask an electrician when household circuits are involved.
Bottom-line selection
For a typical household’s refrigerator, freezer, router, lights and charging during a short outage, the EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus is the clearest starting point among the cited models because TechRadar lists 1,024Wh, 2,400W and 10ms UPS switching. Select the BLUETTI AC240P when its 1,843Wh capacity better matches your measured energy need and its verified output meets your surge requirement. Choose an expandable DELTA Pro-, TITAN- or comparable system when pumps, multiple appliances or multi-day outages make 1,000Wh insufficient. In every case, measure the real loads, check startup power and plan how the battery will be recharged.
