Start by identifying your edition: Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition requires ray-tracing-capable graphics hardware and is designed to run with ray tracing enabled. Then choose your display’s native resolution and a frame-rate target, and tune settings on your own system. For Enhanced Edition on an NVIDIA GPU, NVIDIA’s 2021 guidance suggests DLSS Quality at 1080p or 1440p and Performance at 4K—but treat those as starting points, not guaranteed best settings.
First, identify which Metro game and edition you have
Settings guidance for Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition does not automatically apply to the original Metro Exodus, Metro 2033 Redux, or Metro: Last Light Redux. The Enhanced Edition has a fully ray-traced lighting pipeline; its features include ray-traced global illumination, emissive lighting, and advanced ray-traced reflections. The original game and the Redux titles are separate cases, so do not assume they expose the same graphics options.

4A Games’ April 2021 FAQ said Enhanced Edition was “designed for Ray Tracing to be on” and that there were no plans at that time to add ray tracing to Metro Redux. That is a dated statement, not confirmation of every later change. Read the official Enhanced Edition FAQ.

Check Enhanced Edition compatibility before tuning
PLAION’s support page lists the following requirements for the base game. They are not a guarantee of Enhanced Edition performance. The page separately says Enhanced Edition requires an NVIDIA RTX or AMD RX graphics card; the publisher’s announcement describes the requirement as a ray-tracing-capable GPU.

These are the base-game specifications published by PLAION Support. Enhanced Edition’s separate ray-tracing requirement is also described in the official announcement. Check your specific GPU and edition rather than inferring Enhanced Edition compatibility from the base-game table.
Set resolution and performance target before adjusting quality
- Confirm the edition. Check whether you launched the original Metro Exodus or PC Enhanced Edition; do not apply Enhanced Edition advice wholesale to the Redux games.
- Check compatibility. For Enhanced Edition, verify that your graphics card supports ray tracing.
- Choose a target. Start at your display’s native resolution and decide what frame rate you want to maintain. A higher target may require accepting lower image quality or using upscaling.
- Change one option at a time. If performance misses your target, adjust a graphics setting, then retest in representative gameplay before changing another. This makes it easier to see whether a change helped.
There is no verified universal preset or current, item-by-item ranking of settings by performance cost across all Metro games and hardware. Results depend on the game edition, GPU, resolution, and chosen frame-rate target.

Which DLSS mode should you use in Enhanced Edition?
For Enhanced Edition on an NVIDIA GPU, NVIDIA’s May 2021 article recommended DLSS Quality at 1920×1080 and 2560×1440, and DLSS Performance at 3840×2160. Use those modes as a first comparison, then judge both image clarity and frame rate on your own system. The recommendation is vendor guidance from 2021, not a current guarantee that one mode is optimal for every GPU or player.

NVIDIA’s article also claimed DLSS 2.0 could make Enhanced Edition “2X faster at 4K.” It described this as NVIDIA’s performance claim, not an independent benchmark or a promise for current systems. The same article retrospectively claimed up to 30% more performance from DLSS 1.0 in the original Metro Exodus; that figure is not an Enhanced Edition result. NVIDIA’s stated frame-rate claims for particular GeForce RTX cards were likewise published in 2021 under its described conditions and should not be treated as present-day outcomes. What if FPS is still below your target?
Keep the resolution and target you chose in view, then lower or change one graphics option at a time and retest in a similar gameplay situation. If the image becomes less acceptable before performance reaches your target, reconsider the target or test a different upscaling mode where available. This is a practical tuning method, not a benchmark-backed order of which specific setting costs the most.
For the original Metro Exodus and the Redux games, the available official information here does not establish modern per-setting performance recommendations. Use the same one-change-and-retest approach, but avoid assuming Enhanced Edition’s ray-tracing or DLSS guidance applies to those releases.
