Start with the official launch requirements for your hardware tier, choose your resolution and whether smooth performance or image quality matters more, then compare the available options on your own system. The game also includes substantial accessibility controls that are worth setting up before you play.
Check the official PC requirements before tuning
The Coalition published final launch PC specifications in September 2026; the specification image was updated on September 28. Check the official Xbox Wire announcement and its specification image for the CPU, GPU, memory, operating system, and SSD requirements in each tier. Match your PC to the listed tier rather than treating a GPU or CPU as an approximate substitute for a different tier. The published specifications are requirements, not a promise of a particular frame rate or graphics preset.

Gears of War: E-Day is built on Unreal Engine 5 and DirectX 12. The Coalition says it has been optimizing the game across a broad range of PC hardware, and Xbox lists hardware ray tracing alongside NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 with Dynamic Multi Frame Generation and Super Resolution, NVIDIA Reflex, AMD FSR, Unreal Engine TSR, and Intel XeSS. These are supported technologies, not evidence that a particular upscaler or quality setting will perform best on every GPU. See the Xbox Wire PC feature announcement.

Decide which matters more for your setup: a higher frame rate or greater image quality. Also note your display’s output resolution. These choices give you a useful basis for comparing settings; there is no published universal PC recipe by GPU, resolution, or target frame rate.

The game’s first-launch Graphics tab documents graphics priority choices for Campaign, Horde Siege, and Versus. Each offers a choice between higher frame rate and higher quality. The guide also describes detection of a 120 Hz output. Use the priority that matches your goal, then judge the result on your own PC. The exact available choices and other controls are described in the official Gears of War support guide.
Compare upscalers and quality options on your hardware
DLSS, FSR, TSR, and XeSS offer different routes to rendering and upscaling, but support for a technology does not establish that it is the best choice for your system. Compare options at the resolution you intend to play, paying attention to both visual clarity and frame pacing. Where available, also consider input responsiveness, power use, and heat; Eco Mode is among the controls documented in the game’s first-launch setup.

- Set your intended output resolution and choose the game mode’s higher-frame-rate or higher-quality priority.
- Compare the available upscaler and graphics options without changing several settings at once.
- Check the same scene after each change. Look for a steadier-feeling presentation as well as clear image detail, and keep the option that best fits your priorities.
This is a practical comparison method, not a game-specific benchmark or guarantee. TechRadar reviewer Dashiell Wood reported that on his RTX 4090-powered PC, the game reached a “rock-solid 75 frames per second (fps) at ultra settings” at 1080p. That is one reviewer’s observation on one system, not a result that can be generalized to other hardware.
Understand shader compilation and Advanced Shader Delivery
Shader compilation is distinct from the game’s ongoing rendered performance. Microsoft says Advanced Shader Delivery (ASD) can supply precompiled shaders with a game download, reducing first-launch shader compilation work and shader-related stutter on supported systems. Microsoft’s DirectX Developer Blog reported an approximately 95% reduction in shader compilation time for supported hardware in 2026; that figure is about compilation time, not average FPS or total loading time.

In its October 1, 2026 DirectX Developer Blog post, Microsoft specifies Windows 11 version 24H2 or higher and lists hardware and driver conditions for support. The post also says to install the Xbox PC app before downloading the game to experience ASD. Support and rollout details may change, so consult Microsoft’s current requirements rather than assuming every PC receives precompiled shaders.
