If you also use Windows, Android, or other platforms—or need a particular sharing or privacy feature—a third-party manager may suit you better. The available product documentation supports comparing four options, not ranking ten or claiming a tested winner.
Which iPhone password manager should you choose?
Start with how you use your devices and what you need the manager to do. Apple Passwords is built into Apple’s ecosystem; the three third-party options below describe iPhone autofill and additional features in their own documentation. Those descriptions are product claims, not independent test results.

- Choose Apple Passwords as your starting point if you mainly use Apple devices and want passwords, passkeys, verification codes, autofill, and syncing across supported Apple devices.
- Consider a third-party manager if you need coverage beyond Apple devices or a specific feature such as Proton Pass’s hide-my-email aliases or a provider’s sharing options.
- Check the current plan and setup details before switching, especially if you depend on a feature that may be limited to a paid tier.
Four iPhone password managers to consider
Apple Passwords: the built-in choice
Apple says its Passwords app is available starting with iOS 18 and manages passwords, passkeys, and verification codes. It supports Password AutoFill and shared groups for family or trusted contacts. Apple says iCloud Keychain syncs passwords and passkeys among approved Apple devices, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro, without exposing them to Apple. See Apple’s guide to the Passwords app and its iCloud Keychain security overview.
This is a practical fit if your devices are primarily Apple products. Check that your operating systems and devices support the features you plan to use; the cited documentation does not establish that Apple Passwords covers every platform or every third-party sharing workflow.

1Password: a dedicated third-party option
1Password’s support documentation describes enabling autofill on iPhone or iPad to save logins and sign in to apps and websites without opening the 1Password app. It also discusses generated passwords and passkeys. Read 1Password’s iOS autofill documentation for its description of the feature.
The information here does not establish 1Password’s current price, full plan features, recovery model, or comparative performance. Check those details against your own needs before subscribing.

Bitwarden: iPhone features described by the provider
Bitwarden’s iPhone product page describes encrypted vault storage, autofill, password generation, family credential sharing, and passkeys. These are Bitwarden’s own feature descriptions, not independent verification of performance. Its reviewed page does not establish a current price comparison or all plan limits. See Bitwarden’s iPhone password manager page and confirm the current terms for the plan you are considering.
Proton Pass: a free plan with listed extras
Proton lists iOS availability and says Proton Free includes unlimited logins and devices, password generation, passkeys, and ten hide-my-email aliases. The same product page lists integrated 2FA, secure vault or item sharing, and dark-web monitoring among paid-plan features. These plan details can change; check Proton Pass’s current product information for the terms that apply to you before choosing a plan.

Proton’s feature list may interest readers who want aliases or a free option across devices. Its claims should not be read as an independent security assessment.
Can you use another password manager for iPhone autofill?
Yes. Apple’s Password AutoFill framework supports login and account-creation tasks in iOS apps and webpages, and third-party providers can be selected as autofill services. Apple describes the framework in its Password AutoFill developer documentation. The exact menu labels can vary with the iOS version, and autofill should not be assumed to work identically in every app or website.

- This pre-owned product is not Apple certified, but has been professionally inspected, tested and cleaned by Amazon-qualified suppliers.
- There will be no visible cosmetic imperfections when held at an arm’s length.
- This product is eligible for a replacement or refund within 90 days of receipt if you are not satisfied.
- Product may come in generic Box.
Enable a provider
- Install the password manager you want to use and sign in or create its account.
- Open the iPhone’s Password or AutoFill settings.
- Turn on Password AutoFill and select the provider you want to use. Proton’s iPhone and iPad setup guide documents this selection process for Proton Pass.
- Try signing in to an app or website where you have a saved login. If autofill does not appear, check that the provider is enabled and that the login exists in its vault.
What to compare before switching or paying
- Device and browser coverage: List the devices and browsers you actually use, including any Windows or Android devices, and verify support for each.
- Autofill and passkeys: Confirm that the provider supports the sign-in methods you rely on and learn how to select it in iPhone settings.
- Sharing: Check whether household or team sharing is available and whether it is included in the plan you would buy.
- Free-plan boundaries: Identify which specific features are free and which require payment. Plan packaging can change.
- Security and account recovery: Read the provider’s documentation on encryption, account protection, recovery, and any independent security assessments. A marketing description alone is not independent verification.
- Portability: Before moving a large vault, check how the provider handles import and export and whether the process fits your needs.
- Total cost: Compare the same billing period, number of users, and renewal price. Do not treat a temporary introductory offer as the standard recurring price.
Why this is a four-option comparison, not a top-ten ranking
The available documentation supports discussing Apple Passwords, 1Password, Bitwarden, and Proton Pass as candidates. It does not establish ten researched options, a tested ordering, or comparable current regional prices. No hands-on app testing or independent performance comparison is represented here. Treat the options as a shortlist to evaluate against your own device mix and requirements, rather than as a ranked result.
