VitaShell is the best default dashboard for most hacked PS Vita owners. It combines file management, VPK/package installation, FTP transfers, and storage mounting in one native LiveArea replacement. Choose ONEMenu instead when your priority is a cleaner, categorized game and homebrew library. Add Adrenaline for PSP and PlayStation 1 software, because it runs inside the Vita’s PSP emulator rather than replacing the native dashboard. PSVitaAlive is the newer choice for browsing catalogs and installing content from the device itself, but its current compatibility and catalog availability should be checked before you make it your primary shell.
The right setup depends on your Vita or PS TV model, firmware, storage arrangement, and whether you need administration tools or a console-style launcher. None of these dashboards supplies games or makes copyrighted downloads legal; they organize and install software you are entitled to use.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Native shell: VitaShell and ONEMenu can serve as the main Vita-side interface for files, bubbles and homebrew.
- Specialized runtime: Adrenaline is a PSP environment launched from the Vita. It changes the behavior of the PSP emulator; it does not replace the native Vita shell.
- Catalog client: PSVitaAlive is an application for finding and installing cataloged content. It is closer to an in-device software center than to a complete replacement for every file-management task.
This distinction matters when troubleshooting. If a PSP title fails inside Adrenaline, changing the Vita dashboard will not fix the PSP emulator. If a VPK transfer is incomplete, a catalog client cannot substitute for a reliable file-transfer and storage workflow.
VitaShell: the strongest all-purpose choice
What VitaShell provides
The VitaShell project describes itself as an alternative replacement for the PS Vita’s LiveArea. Its practical value is administrative: you can browse directories, move and delete files, install packages, transfer data over FTP, and work with mounted storage without leaving the console.
- File manager: inspect the mounted partitions and organize folders directly on the device.
- Package installer: install VPK and other supported package files after transferring them to the Vita.
- Built-in FTP: move files over the local network without removing the memory card or repeatedly reconnecting a cable.
- USB and storage mounting: expose or mount supported storage targets so that files can be copied to the partition your setup uses.
- LiveArea replacement: launch VitaShell as the central utility even when the standard bubble layout is not convenient.
Why it is the default recommendation
Most hacked Vita owners eventually need to solve a file or storage problem: transferring a VPK, checking whether a plugin exists in the expected directory, moving content between partitions, or recovering space. VitaShell covers those jobs without requiring a second launcher. Its interface is utilitarian rather than a showcase library, but that is an advantage when the task is diagnosis or maintenance.
When VitaShell is not enough
VitaShell does not try to be a richly categorized game shelf. Large libraries can feel like a directory tree, and the visual presentation is closer to a file manager than a console front end. If you want categories, themes and sorting as your first interaction after boot, use ONEMenu as the launcher while keeping VitaShell installed for administration.
PS TV USB behavior
VitaShell’s documentation states that a USB flash drive can be mounted as uma0: and then used as ux0: on PS TV. The documented procedure is temporary: it must be repeated after each PS TV launch. Treat this as a session-level storage arrangement, not a permanent replacement that will survive every reboot automatically. Confirm which partition is mounted before installing or moving files so that content does not end up on an unintended device.

ONEMenu: the library-first launcher
Its organizing model
ONEMenu’s project README describes a simple interface that separates installed games and applications into categories. It documents five categories:
- Vita and homebrew games
- PSM games
- PSP and homebrew games
- PS1 games
- Adrenaline bubbles
That structure is useful when your library spans native Vita software, PSP content and several kinds of homebrew. Instead of treating every bubble as an undifferentiated icon grid, ONEMenu gives each class a predictable place.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFeatures beyond categories
- Sorting: arrange entries so a large collection is easier to scan.
- Themes: change the presentation without changing the underlying content.
- VPK and folder installation: install supported packages or application folders from the menu.
- FTP and USB: transfer content using either network or wired storage workflows.
- Database refresh: rebuild the menu’s view when bubbles or entries are missing after a transfer.
- File explorer: perform file operations without leaving the launcher.
The trade-off: more control means more risk
ONEMenu’s maintenance functions are convenient, but they also place potentially destructive operations close to the launch interface. Before deleting, cleaning or changing a storage location, make a backup and verify the target path. A colorful front end does not make a file operation reversible. Use VitaShell for cautious inspection when you are unsure what a directory contains, and avoid any cleanup action whose effect you cannot explain.
Project activity is not a quality score
When accessed in 2026, ONEMenu’s repository displayed 234 GitHub stars and 24 forks. Those figures are activity indicators, not measurements of speed, safety, support quality or compatibility with your particular firmware.
Adrenaline: the PSP and PS1 companion environment
What it changes
Adrenaline’s project documentation says it modifies the official PSP Emulator using the taiHEN custom-firmware framework so that the emulator runs PSP 6.61 custom firmware. In practical terms, it gives the Vita a PSP-style environment for compatible PSP software and PS1 content.

Why it should not be judged as a Vita dashboard
Adrenaline is not a native LiveArea replacement. You normally launch it from the Vita side, then operate inside the PSP interface. That makes it complementary to VitaShell or ONEMenu rather than a direct substitute. Installing Adrenaline does not remove the need for a native file manager or a Vita-oriented launcher.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Best arrangement
Keep VitaShell available for transferring and inspecting files, use ONEMenu if you want a unified categorized view, and launch Adrenaline when you need the PSP runtime. ONEMenu’s separate Adrenaline-bubble category is useful for making that hand-off visible in a larger library.
Scope and legal limits
Adrenaline changes the emulator environment; it does not grant rights to obtain commercial games. Use backups and software you are legally entitled to use, and follow the rules that apply in your country.
PSVitaAlive: a newer catalog-and-installer option
What the project documents
PSVitaAlive identifies itself as a native PS Vita, PS TV and Vita3K catalog client. Its documented catalogs cover homebrew, Vita games, PSP and PS1 content. It also lists search, downloads, and installation support for VPK, ZIP and PKG files, plus plugin configuration.
Why readers may prefer it
If your main problem is discovering and installing cataloged software from the console itself, PSVitaAlive can reduce the need to move between a desktop browser, an FTP client and a package installer. Search and a single installation pipeline are especially appealing for a small test setup or for someone who wants a software-center experience.

Why to verify it before adopting it as your only shell
PSVitaAlive is newer than the established VitaShell, ONEMenu and Adrenaline projects. Catalog contents, server availability, supported firmware and installation behavior can change. Check the current project release information and confirm that the client supports your Vita or PS TV, storage plugin and desired package type. Keep VitaShell installed as a recovery and file-management path even if PSVitaAlive becomes your preferred catalog interface.
Choose by the job you need to do
| Your priority | Best fit | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| One dependable utility for files, packages and storage | VitaShell | It combines the broadest set of administration functions in a native shell. |
| A tidy, categorized library with themes | ONEMenu | Its five-category model, sorting and presentation tools target library navigation. |
| PSP and PS1 compatibility | Adrenaline plus a native Vita dashboard | Adrenaline supplies the PSP runtime; VitaShell or ONEMenu handles Vita-side management. |
| Searching catalogs and installing from the device | PSVitaAlive | Its documented purpose is an in-device catalog and installer workflow. |
| PS TV USB storage sessions | VitaShell, with the documented USB mount process | VitaShell explicitly documents mounting a USB flash drive as uma0: and then ux0:; the process is temporary per launch. |
Plan the setup before installing anything
Identify the hardware
Write down whether you have a handheld Vita or a PS TV. USB behavior, available ports and the practical storage workflow differ. Do not apply a PS TV-specific mount procedure to a handheld and assume the result will be equivalent.
Record firmware and the hack path
Vita SDK documentation lists these known hack paths: HENkaku for firmware 3.60, h-encore for 3.65–3.68, and Trinity for 3.69–3.70. These ranges describe entry points, not a promise that every dashboard, plugin or storage setup behaves identically on every version. Confirm your exact firmware before following a current installation guide.
Document storage and plugins
Record whether your primary storage is a Sony memory card, an SD2Vita microSD arrangement, or USB storage on PS TV. Also note the storage and compatibility plugins that determine which device is mounted as ux0:, uma0: or another partition. A dashboard can appear broken when the real problem is that the expected partition is not mounted.

- Copy irreplaceable saves and configuration files to a computer.
- Keep a known-good copy of plugin configuration and the current storage layout.
- Do not delete a package or folder until you know which bubble or application uses it.
- Use a stable USB or FTP connection and leave extra free space for temporary package files.
Storage choices and how they affect dashboards
Sony memory card
A Sony card is the simplest conceptual layout: the dashboard reads the mounted content partition and launches bubbles from it. Capacity and wear still matter, but there is no adapter-specific mount step to diagnose.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
SD2Vita and microSD storage
The Vita Hacks Guide points readers to YAMT for replacing Sony memory-card storage with alternatives such as a microSD card or USB drive. An SD2Vita microSD adapter is therefore a practical hardware path for expanding storage, but the adapter does not by itself configure the Vita. Your storage plugin, mount assignments and folder structure must agree with the dashboard and the rest of the system.
Before switching, copy the existing content, verify the new card’s filesystem and confirm which partition becomes ux0:. If a menu shows no bubbles after the swap, first inspect the mount assignments rather than reinstalling every application.
USB storage on PS TV
VitaShell documents a USB flash-drive workflow in which the drive is mounted as uma0: and then used as ux0:. Because the procedure must be repeated after each PS TV launch, plan for a short setup step whenever the console starts. If the drive is absent or mounted differently, applications and bubbles stored there will appear to be missing even though the files remain intact.

A safe installation and migration workflow
- Inventory the system. Note model, firmware, current hack method, storage devices and plugins.
- Back up the current state. Save personal data and copy important configuration files before installing a new shell or refreshing a database.
- Keep VitaShell available. Install or retain it as the recovery path for file transfers and package installation, even if ONEMenu or PSVitaAlive will be your daily launcher.
- Transfer one package at a time. Use VitaShell FTP, USB or another documented method, then verify that the file finished copying before installation.
- Install the launcher or companion. Add ONEMenu for categorized browsing, Adrenaline for PSP/PS1 use, or PSVitaAlive for catalog access. Avoid changing storage plugins in the same session unless necessary.
- Refresh the view. If bubbles are missing, use the relevant database-refresh function and reboot only after transfers and installations have completed.
- Test a small sample. Launch one native Vita application, one homebrew item and, if installed, one Adrenaline title before migrating a large library.
- Record the working configuration. Keep notes on mount points, plugin versions and which shell is used for recovery.
Troubleshooting by symptom
| Symptom | Likely area | What to check first |
|---|---|---|
| The new dashboard opens but shows no games | Storage mount or database | Confirm the expected device is mounted as ux0:, then refresh the database. Do not delete folders while diagnosing. |
| A VPK installation fails | Incomplete transfer, insufficient space or incompatible package | Check the file size after transfer, free space and package compatibility. Re-copy through a stable FTP or USB connection. |
| PSP software does not appear in the native launcher | Wrong environment | Launch Adrenaline and check its PSP-side content path; Adrenaline is not a native Vita bubble replacement. |
| PS TV content disappears after reboot | Temporary USB mount | Repeat VitaShell’s documented USB mount sequence and verify the drive is again assigned to the expected partition. |
| ONEMenu lists stale or duplicate entries | Database state | Use its database-refresh function after confirming that the underlying folders and bubbles are correct. |
| A plugin change prevents normal operation | Plugin or firmware compatibility | Use your documented recovery method, restore the backed-up configuration and confirm firmware support before trying another version. |
| PSVitaAlive cannot download or install a catalog item | Project availability, network or package support | Check current project status, network access, catalog availability and whether the item is VPK, ZIP or PKG as expected. |
How to combine the tools without creating confusion
A two- or three-application setup is often more robust than forcing one program to do every job. A practical arrangement is VitaShell as the recovery and administration shell, ONEMenu as the daily library launcher, and Adrenaline for PSP and PS1 sessions. PSVitaAlive can be added when its catalog workflow is useful; it does not need to replace the other tools.
Use one application for each responsibility and keep the storage layout consistent. For example, transfer and inspect a package in VitaShell, launch the installed bubble through ONEMenu, and enter Adrenaline only for PSP-side content. This separation makes failures easier to localize and reduces the temptation to use a destructive cleanup function simply because it is visible in a launcher menu.
What the evidence does—and does not—show
The documented feature sets clearly separate the projects by role, but they do not establish a universal winner through controlled testing. There are no supplied independent measurements for boot time, FTP throughput, crash frequency, library-scan speed or installation success rate. Your experience will depend on firmware, plugins, card quality, network conditions and library size.
Repository activity can provide context but not a safety guarantee. ONEMenu’s 234 stars and 24 forks shown in 2026 indicate public activity; they do not prove that it is safer or better supported than another option. Check current releases and issue reports for your exact hardware before making a system-wide change.
Final recommendation
Start with VitaShell if you want one dependable, open-source utility for a hacked PS Vita. Add ONEMenu when library organization is the main complaint. Install Adrenaline alongside a native dashboard for PSP and PS1 software, not instead of one. Consider PSVitaAlive when an on-device catalog and installer are more valuable than a mature file-management workflow, while keeping VitaShell available for recovery. Identify your model, firmware, storage plugin and mount points first, back up before database or partition changes, and treat every destructive operation as a change that must be reversible.
