1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesNeither Mumbai nor Chennai is a proven universal winner. If one VPS provider offers comparable instances in both cities, test each from the actual server you plan to use and choose the location with the steadier sustained upload to YouTube at your intended bitrate. A region listing shows that infrastructure is available; it does not show whether a particular server’s route to YouTube will be stable.
Why the city name cannot settle the choice
A continuous YouTube stream depends on the complete path from your VPS to YouTube’s ingest endpoint: the provider’s network, routing, congestion, packet loss, and the instance’s ability to sustain your encoder workload. Neither the cited cloud-region listings nor the available YouTube guidance provide a direct Mumbai-versus-Chennai comparison of ingest latency, packet loss, or long-duration uptime.

Both cities have cloud options, but availability varies by provider and service. Oracle lists Mumbai and Chennai locations; Microsoft lists West India (Mumbai) and South India (Chennai). Google Cloud’s Live Stream API location list includes Mumbai (asia-south1), not Chennai. These are service-specific examples, not a complete inventory of VPS vendors, and a region’s presence does not establish the best route to YouTube. See Oracle’s region list, Microsoft’s India region announcement, and Google Cloud Live Stream API locations.
How to choose between two VPS locations
1. Compare equivalent instances and terms
Use the same provider, or instances that are as comparable as possible in CPU, memory, network limits, and operating system. Check the provider’s current bandwidth or egress terms, traffic limits, and any restrictions on continuous streaming. Location alone cannot tell you whether a specific VM can run your encoder or what the total cost will be.

2. Test the actual route to YouTube
- Configure the encoder and YouTube stream identically for each VPS. Use the same resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and keyframe interval.
- Start a private or otherwise appropriate test stream from the first VPS, then repeat from the other. Include representative audio and motion rather than testing a static image only.
- Run each test long enough to observe changes rather than relying on a short speed-test result. Monitor YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health messages and dropped frames, as well as the VPS’s sustained upload behavior.
- Repeat tests at different times if practical. Choose based on the consistency of the actual instances and routes for your workload, not one favorable result.
This comparison describes those servers and routes at the time you test; it is not a permanent ranking of Mumbai and Chennai. YouTube advises testing before going live and monitoring stream health in its encoder guidance.
3. Allow upload headroom
YouTube’s current H.264 encoder guidance lists 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended for 1080p at 30 fps, and 6 Mbps minimum and 17 Mbps recommended for 1080p at 60 fps. These are encoder settings, not a guarantee that a VPS has sufficient network capacity. The connection needs headroom above the configured bitrate, and it must remain stable. YouTube notes that congestion and other network factors can cause delays even when average bandwidth appears sufficient; see its latency guidance.

Encoder settings that matter to the location test
Keep the configuration aligned with YouTube’s current recommendations so that you are testing the VPS route rather than an avoidable encoder mismatch.
- Protocol: YouTube recommends RTMPS for ordinary encoder use. HLS ingestion is intended for premium high-quality or high-resolution streams where relatively higher latency is acceptable; it is not a general fix for a weak VPS route. See the encoder settings and HLS ingestion guide.
- Keyframe interval: YouTube recommends a 2-second keyframe frequency for its listed RTMP/RTMPS setup and says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Resolution and bitrate: Choose a bitrate appropriate to the resolution and frame rate you will actually stream. For H.264 1080p at 30 fps, YouTube lists 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended; at 60 fps, 6 Mbps minimum and 17 Mbps recommended. Plan network headroom beyond the chosen stream bitrate.
- Test content: Include movement and audio representative of the real stream, then inspect Live Control Room health rather than treating an upload-speed result as proof of reliability.
Do not confuse viewer latency with VPS-to-YouTube reliability
YouTube’s low-latency mode is described as under 10 seconds for most viewers, and ultra-low latency as under 5 seconds for most viewers. Both exclude 4K, and ultra-low latency can increase buffering risk because viewers have less player buffer. These are viewer-experience descriptions; they do not show that a VPS in either city will deliver a particular delay or more reliable ingest.

Likewise, AWS’s announcement of 5–10 second latency for its India Amazon IVS edge locations in Mumbai and Chennai is specific to IVS, a different managed live-video service. It is not evidence of YouTube ingest performance. AWS explains that IVS latency can depend on streamer location, viewer location, and the ISPs involved; see the Amazon IVS FAQ and India edge-location announcement.
Plan for continuous operation, not just a successful test
A stable route is only one part of a continuous stream. The VPS must also run the selected workload without overload, and your setup needs a plan for monitoring and recovery after a process, connection, or server interruption. Check how the encoder restarts, how it reconnects to YouTube, and how you will detect a stream that has stopped. The city itself does not provide those safeguards.

If you mean Google Cloud’s managed Live Stream API rather than a standalone VPS encoding directly to YouTube, that is a different architecture: its documentation describes creating an input endpoint and channel, storing outputs in Cloud Storage, and placing those resources close together. Its location guidance does not establish that a standalone VPS in the same region is best for direct YouTube streaming. See Google Cloud’s location documentation.

If your goal is a YouTube channel that stays live from uploaded recordings, StreamNeo avoids maintaining a VPS and encoder at home: upload a video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not stream from a camera, and it streams to YouTube only. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free first day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I choose Mumbai if my VPS provider lists a local cloud region?
Not on that fact alone. A regional listing confirms service availability, not the stability of that instance’s route to YouTube.
Does the Google Cloud Live Stream API location list compare VPS performance?
No. It describes locations for that managed service and does not benchmark a standalone VPS’s direct YouTube ingest route.
