Set a fixed viewport width and height, then reuse them for every capture. For reliable comparisons, also keep the device scale factor, screenshot scale, browser version, and execution environment consistent. There is no universally correct viewport size for product prices: choose one that shows the price and enough product context to identify the item.
Choose a viewport that shows the price and product
First decide what the screenshot needs to prove. A price by itself may be hard to identify later, so include enough nearby context—such as the product name or image—to connect the amount to the right item. The retailer’s page layout and your use case determine the appropriate dimensions; Playwright’s documentation does not prescribe a product-price-specific size.

Use explicit width and height values and apply the same values to every capture. Playwright uses 1280 × 720 as an example configuration, not as a recommended standard for price screenshots. A narrower or taller viewport may suit a different page or comparison, but changing dimensions between captures can change responsive layout and visible content. Playwright emulation documentation
Keep viewport and image scale distinct
Viewport dimensions are measured in CSS pixels. Device scale factor is a separate emulation setting; screenshot output scale is another choice. Playwright explains that CSS screenshot scale produces one output pixel per CSS pixel, while device scale uses the emulated device density and can produce larger, high-density images. For example, the same viewport can yield different output pixel dimensions at different device scale factors or screenshot scales. Record both the viewport and scale settings with your baseline rather than treating an image’s pixel width as proof of its browser viewport.
Set and reuse the settings in Playwright
Set the viewport and device scale factor on the browser context, and set screenshot scale explicitly. This runnable example captures the visible viewport; replace the URL with the product page you are authorized to capture.

Choose viewport-only or full-page capture
A viewport screenshot records what is visible in the browser window. A full-page screenshot extends to the page’s scrollable content and therefore has different framing and dimensions. For a price comparison, viewport-only capture is often easier to align when the price and product identity are visible together. Use full-page capture when the relevant details are farther apart or the full listing is itself what you need to retain. Do not mix the two modes in one visual comparison. Control the environment for repeatable comparisons
A fixed viewport helps, but it cannot guarantee pixel-identical rendering across different operating systems, browser versions, hardware, browser settings, or headless configurations. Playwright advises: “For consistent screenshots, run tests in the same environment where the baseline screenshots were generated.” Keep the browser and execution environment aligned with the baseline when possible. - The price moves or wraps: Check that both viewport width and height match. A width change can trigger a different responsive layout.
- The images have different pixel dimensions: Compare screenshot scale and device scale factor as well as the CSS viewport. Device-pixel output can be larger than CSS-pixel output.
- One screenshot includes more of the page: Confirm that both captures use the same mode; viewport and full-page screenshots have different framing.
- The settings match but pixels still differ: Check browser version, operating system, hardware, browser settings, and headless mode. Matching viewport values alone does not control those rendering variables.
- The screenshot omits identifying context: Adjust the chosen viewport so the price and enough product information are visible together, then use those dimensions consistently for subsequent captures.
