Nintendo Switch Sports is the best all-around starting point if you want several sports played with Joy-Con motion controls. It includes eight sports, from Bowling and Tennis to Golf and Chambara. If you mainly want tennis, Mario Tennis Aces offers a dedicated Joy-Con Swing Mode; for motion-led workouts rather than a sports collection, consider Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm & Exercise.
Best all-around pick: Nintendo Switch Sports
Nintendo Switch Sports is the strongest fit for households or groups looking for variety in one game. Nintendo lists Basketball, Golf, Soccer, Volleyball, Bowling, Tennis, Badminton, and Chambara (swordplay). Motion is part of the play: Nintendo gives examples such as curving a bowling ball and adding spin to a tennis shot. Its sports guide outlines how the controls work across the sports.

The game supports local play as well as online competition and play with friends. Online play requires internet access, a Nintendo Account, and a Nintendo Switch Online membership; online availability can vary by country. A membership is not stated as a requirement for local play. See Nintendo’s official game information and sports guide for details.
Controller and play-space considerations
Controller configurations depend on the selected sport. Nintendo Support says the game does not support Handheld Mode and recommends TV Mode for the best experience. Some Soccer gameplay uses a Leg Strap; Nintendo Support explains how to select Leg-Strap Mode and notes that Joy-Con 2 controllers are not compatible with the Leg Strap. Check the intended Soccer mode and controller generation before buying or using the accessory. Nintendo Switch Sports controller and mode FAQ

Best for tennis: Mario Tennis Aces
Mario Tennis Aces is a focused alternative if tennis matters more to you than having several sports. Its optional Swing Mode lets you use a Joy-Con like a tennis racket. The game also offers standard tennis play, an Adventure mode, local play, and online tournaments. Nintendo’s product page describes the modes.

Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm & Exercise is worth considering if your goal is a guided workout rather than a collection of sports. Nintendo describes players gripping Joy-Con controllers to punch and duck or weave. It is an adjacent exercise game, not a direct substitute for Nintendo Switch Sports. How to choose
| Game | Best fit | Motion-control role | Play and requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch Sports | Players who want a broad selection of sports in one game | Motion controls support the sports; Nintendo describes examples including bowling curve and tennis spin | Local and online play. Online requires internet, a Nintendo Account, and Nintendo Switch Online membership; availability varies by country. No Handheld Mode; some Soccer play uses a Leg Strap. |
| Mario Tennis Aces | Players chiefly interested in tennis | Optional Joy-Con Swing Mode, alongside standard tennis play | Adventure, local play, and online tournaments are listed by Nintendo; the cited page does not state membership requirements. |
| Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm & Exercise | Players looking for motion-based exercise | Joy-Con motions for punching and ducking or weaving | The cited Nintendo feature describes the exercise concept; it does not state local or online modes or membership requirements. |
These are a practical shortlist of documented choices, not an exhaustive ranking of every Switch release that may use motion controls. Nintendo’s product descriptions establish features and modes, but they do not compare tracking accuracy, responsiveness, comfort, or long-term durability across games.
