Short answer: Godlike.Host is our top pick for Minecraft servers, with Java, Bedrock and modded hosting, 10 data-center locations, free DDoS protection and a panel built around mods and backups. Beyond it, there is no single best provider for every server: Shockbyte and PebbleHost are strong budget starting points, BisectHosting is particularly well suited to very large modpack catalogs, Apex Hosting emphasizes a polished managed experience, Nodecraft clearly separates sleep-when-unused plans from always-online plans, and ScalaCube suits multi-server experimentation.
Choose in that order only after checking your Minecraft edition, server workload, data-center location, backup policy, and renewal price. A plan with more advertised RAM or unlimited slots is not automatically faster: CPU allocation, mods, plugins, chunk generation, view distance, redstone activity, and concurrent players can matter just as much.

Choose the edition before choosing the host
Minecraft Java Edition and Bedrock Edition use different dedicated-server software. Mojang’s Java server download is compatible only with Java Edition. Mojang publishes separate Bedrock Dedicated Server software and requirements, so do not assume that a Java server plan, modpack, or control-panel installer will work for Bedrock players.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Managed hosts may advertise support for both editions. Apex Hosting, for example, lists Java and Bedrock support. That does not by itself guarantee cross-play between editions, nor does it mean every mod, plugin, or server version is available on both. Confirm the edition, game version, and server software before ordering.

Detailed provider comparison
Godlike.Host: our top pick for Minecraft servers
Godlike.Host is game server hosting from Godlike Digital Solutions S.R.L. in Romania. It has separate products for Minecraft Java, Bedrock Edition and modded Minecraft, plus servers for more than 40 other games. Its ping page lists 10 data-center locations: US West Coast, US East Coast, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Poland, Ukraine, Finland and Singapore. Free DDoS protection and a personal firewall for player access and IP filtering are included.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The modded workflow is broad: a built-in mod installer and updater, one-click modpacks from CurseForge, FTB, Technic and ATLauncher (Forge, Fabric and NeoForge), upload of custom server packs, and SFTP/FTP access. The Pterodactyl-based game panel adds a task scheduler, sub-users with permissions, a config editor that shares a settings file by link, and server management through a Discord bot. It offers up to three free backups a day, with restore, and 24/7/365 support by live chat or ticket; its game pages give an average reply time of about twenty minutes.
We tested it on 13 October 2026 with a Minecraft Java (Paper) server on a 16 GB plan in Amsterdam. The first start reached “Done” in 6.25 s, with world preparation taking 2.58 s. Status ping was about 1 ms from Amsterdam, 10 ms from Germany, 84 ms from the US East Coast and 171 ms from India. That is one Java server on one plan, not a Bedrock result or a comparison across hosts. For trying the panel, there is a free 2 GB Minecraft server (20 slots); it must be extended every 3 hours, has limited panel features and sits in one location. Plans can be upgraded or downgraded from the panel with prorated billing.
Choose Godlike.Host when: you want a managed Minecraft host with strong mod tooling, a choice of locations close to your players, and a panel with scheduling, sub-users and backups; see the current Minecraft server plans on Godlike.Host. Check first: the current plans and RAM for your edition, the location nearest your players, and the terms of the first-purchase money-back guarantee (3 calendar days).
Shockbyte: a conventional budget choice
Shockbyte’s Minecraft page lists regular monthly plans from 1 GB at $3.99 through 12 GB at $47.99. The page also displays a 30% first-month promotion, so the promotional figure should not be mistaken for the ongoing subscription price.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe service advertises instant setup, 99.9% uptime, 24/7 support, DDoS protection, a 72-hour self-serve refund window, and one-click modpack and plugin installation. Those are useful features for a small vanilla server or a first managed server, especially if you want a familiar game-hosting panel rather than a raw VPS.
Choose Shockbyte when: your priority is a conventional low-cost host with straightforward installation tools. Check first: the recurring price, exact hardware allocation, backup terms, and the data center nearest your players. The provider has changed Minecraft pricing in the past, making checkout verification especially important.
PebbleHost: inexpensive, granular RAM tiers
PebbleHost’s premium Minecraft plans list 1 GB at $2.25 per month, 4 GB at $9, 6 GB at $13.50, 8 GB at $18, 16 GB at $36, and 36 GB at $81. Its order flow lists North American, European, and Australian locations, including a U.S. West Coast option.
Rank #2
- Processor specifications: Adopting AMD Ryzen 5 5600 processor, with a basic clock speed of 3.5GHz and a turbo frequency of 4.4GHz, it can achieve fast response computing performance
- Graphics Card: Features GeForce RTX 3050 graphics card with 6GB dedicated video memory for gaming and multimedia applications
- Memory configuration: Equipped with 32GB DDR4 RAM (16GB * 2), providing sufficient memory capacity for multitasking and demanding applications
- Gaming Performance: Designed to handle modern gaming titles and graphics-intensive tasks with smooth frame rates and visual quality
- Desktop System: Complete gaming desktop computer system ready for setup and use out of the box
The advertised control-panel feature set is broad: major Java versions, scheduled tasks, unmetered storage subject to fair use, MySQL, FTP, subdomains, resource analytics, and 24/7 Discord support. That makes PebbleHost attractive when you want to start small and increase RAM in relatively clear increments.
Choose PebbleHost when: you want low published RAM pricing and useful administration features without managing a VPS. Check first: the fair-use storage language, CPU resources, backup policy, and whether you need a port-free IP. The order flow indicates that an IP without a port costs extra.
BisectHosting: the strongest modpack workflow
BisectHosting lists Minecraft pricing at about $3 per GB per month, with displayed examples including $5.99 for 2 GB, $11.99 for 4 GB, $17.99 for 6 GB, $23.99 for 8 GB, and $29.99 for 10 GB.
Its main advantage is the workflow around modded Minecraft. The provider advertises automated modpack installation, full mod support, more than 2,300 modpacks, 21 worldwide locations, NVMe storage, FTP access, a datapack manager, daily backups, and 24/7/365 support. It also supports game swapping across supported titles, which is useful if one account may host more than one kind of game.
BisectHosting’s standard Bisect One offering lists two backup slots, 40 GB of shared backup storage, and three days of daily backups. The optional BisectBoost add-on increases backup slots and storage, extends daily-backup retention, adds instance slots, and allows temporary RAM boosting. Treat those as plan-specific allowances rather than assuming every BisectHosting plan includes the same recovery capacity.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Choose BisectHosting when: a large modpack, loader compatibility, and guided deployment matter more than paying the absolute lowest entry price. Check first: the modpack’s own RAM guidance, the exact loader and Minecraft version, and whether your backup retention is sufficient for your world.
ScalaCube: useful for multiple instances and custom setups
ScalaCube advertises plans starting at $2 per month, instant setup, unlimited slots, multiple servers, DDoS protection, plugin and mod support, modpack support, custom JAR support, BungeeCord support, backups, full file access, free MySQL, and more than 3,298 one-click modpacks.
The ability to operate multiple game servers on one VPS can appeal to administrators who want separate vanilla, modded, test, or proxy-style instances. However, ScalaCube itself explains that those instances still share the available CPU, RAM, and disk resources.
Choose ScalaCube when: you want to experiment with several servers or need custom JAR and proxy-related flexibility. Check first: the actual resource allocation and storage limits. Unlimited slots means the panel may not impose a simple slot number; it does not mean unlimited players, entities, chunks, or modpack performance.

Apex Hosting: a polished managed experience
Apex’s pricing page displays 4 GB at $14.99 recurring monthly, 6 GB at $22.49, 8 GB at $27.99, and a 16 GB EX plan at $71.99 recurring monthly. The provider advertises Java and Bedrock support, free server transfers, premade minigames, 24/7 online hosting, FTP and MySQL access, a seven-day money-back policy, mod and plugin support, premium hardware, and 24/7 support.

The 16 GB EX plan is described as using four dedicated vCores, NVMe storage, and a dedicated IP. That makes it the most explicit Apex option for a demanding or larger community, but the description is a provider specification rather than an independent performance test. More RAM and dedicated vCores can help, yet the result still depends on the world, plugins, mods, player behavior, and location.
Choose Apex when: you value assistance with transfers, a polished managed interface, and a broad feature set over the lowest monthly price. Check first: the recurring price, the exact CPU allocation on plans below EX, backup details, and the region offered at checkout.
Nodecraft: the clearest sleep-versus-always-online choice
Nodecraft separates its Minecraft offering into two useful categories. Budget plans are shown at 2 GB for $5.96 recurring monthly, 4 GB for $11.92, and 8 GB for $23.84. The provider explicitly says these Wake & Play servers shut down when unused.

Nodecraft says Premium servers remain online 24/7 and advertises one-click installers, modpack support, static IPs on Premium plans, and server-type and version switching.
Choose Wake & Play when: a private group plays occasionally and everyone accepts a wake-up delay. Choose Premium when: players need to connect at any time, a server listing must remain reachable, or an always-online world is part of the community’s expectations. Compare post-promotion recurring prices rather than sale prices.
How much RAM does a Minecraft server need?
RAM is a planning variable, not a player-count guarantee. Mods, plugins, world size, view distance, redstone machines, entity counts, chunk generation, Java or Bedrock edition, and the number of simultaneous players all affect demand. CPU scheduling and single-thread performance can also become the limiting factor before the advertised RAM is full.
- Small vanilla group: begin comparisons around 2–4 GB, then monitor actual memory use and tick performance. This is a planning range, not a promise of a specific player count.
- Modded server or large modpack: 6–8 GB is a reasonable initial comparison range for many setups, but the modpack’s own documentation should take priority. Some packs need more, and poorly optimized or heavily explored worlds may need substantially different resources.
- Larger community: consider 8 GB or more only alongside CPU allocation, storage performance, player behavior, and backups. Buying RAM alone will not solve overloaded CPU time or poor network distance.
Leave headroom for startup, world saves, exploration, and short-term spikes. A plan that constantly operates at its limit is more likely to experience pauses during chunk generation or saves. Before upgrading, inspect resource graphs and server logs where the host provides them; otherwise you may spend more on RAM when the real issue is a plugin, a mod, a CPU limit, or a distant region.
Always-on hosting, locations, and network expectations
First decide whether the server must remain available while nobody is playing. A sleeping plan can be economical for a friends-only world, but it is a poor fit for a public community, an automated farm that must keep running, or a server listed as continuously available. Nodecraft is especially clear about this distinction: its budget Wake & Play plans sleep when unused, while Premium plans remain online 24/7.
Location is equally important. Select a data center close to most players, not necessarily close to the server owner. PebbleHost lists North America, Europe, and Australia, with a U.S. West Coast option in its order flow. Godlike.Host lists 10 locations across North America, Europe and Singapore. BisectHosting advertises 21 worldwide locations. A nearby region usually reduces network distance, but no provider page alone establishes the latency your particular players will experience.
Do not treat marketing phrases such as 99.9% uptime, lag-free, premium hardware, or reliable as independent measurements. The provider pages support those as advertised features or claims; they do not establish a comparable test across hosts. Ask whether the plan has a fixed CPU allocation, what happens during maintenance, and how support handles a node or world problem.

Backups are part of the hosting decision
A backup is only valuable if it is recent, recoverable, and large enough to contain the world and its important configuration. Compare:
- the number of backup slots;
- retention in days;
- the storage quota and whether it is shared with server files;
- whether backups run daily, weekly, or on demand;
- whether you can download a copy independently;
- how a restore works and whether it overwrites the current world; and
- whether an add-on is required for longer retention.
BisectHosting provides a useful example of why the details matter: its standard Bisect One plan lists two backup slots, 40 GB of shared backup storage, and three days of daily backups, while BisectBoost increases those allowances. ScalaCube advertises backups and Godlike.Host lists up to three free backups a day with restore, but the existence of a feature does not tell you the retention period or restore workflow. Read the plan-specific terms.
For a world that represents months of work, periodically download a backup or copy the world to storage you control. Test restoration on a separate instance when possible. A backup that has never been restored is an assumption, not a recovery plan.
Which host should you choose?
For a small vanilla server with friends
Compare Godlike.Host, Shockbyte, PebbleHost, BisectHosting, and ScalaCube in the 2–4 GB range. Start with the region nearest the players, then compare recurring cost, CPU allocation, included backups, and whether the panel makes file access easy. The cheapest headline price is not the cheapest choice if you later need paid backups, a different location, or a port-free IP.
For a modded Minecraft server
Start around 6–8 GB as a planning range, but use the modpack’s requirements as the first reference. Godlike.Host is our top pick here, with a built-in mod installer and updater, one-click modpacks (Forge, Fabric, NeoForge) and custom server pack upload. BisectHosting is the strongest choice if a very large modpack catalog matters. ScalaCube is attractive for one-click modpacks and multiple instances, while Apex suits users who want a managed interface and support. A VPS can work well for a technically capable administrator who needs custom deployment.
Before paying, confirm the exact loader—such as Paper, Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, or Purpur—the Minecraft version, Java version requirements, modpack import method, file or FTP access, and whether changing server type later requires a migration.
For occasional sessions
Nodecraft Wake & Play is the clearest fit if the group can tolerate a server that shuts down while idle. Make sure everyone understands how the server wakes, whether a player can trigger startup, and how long joining may take. If the server must be available from a listing or automation at all times, use an always-online plan instead.
For a public, always-online community
Avoid sleeping plans. Compare Nodecraft Premium, Apex, and other always-online tiers by recurring price, location, CPU resources, DDoS protection, backup retention, support, static or dedicated IP options, and upgrade path. A public server also needs moderation, permissions, update discipline, and a tested recovery plan; hosting alone does not provide those operational safeguards.
For maximum control
A VPS is appropriate for experienced administrators, and Godlike.Host offers a gaming VPS on AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D with full root access in Ashburn, Portland, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Singapore. A VPS allows more control over the operating system, server JAR, firewall, automation, and multiple services, but the owner must configure and secure them. This is a control trade-off, not a shortcut to better performance.

Managed hosting versus a VPS or home server
Managed game hosting is usually the easier route: the provider supplies a panel, server templates, installation tools, support, and some combination of backups and file access. It is the practical choice for most groups that want to play rather than administer Linux.

A VPS gives you root access and broader deployment options. You may need to install the correct Java runtime, configure the server, manage firewall and security-group rules, perform updates, monitor resource usage, schedule backups, and troubleshoot the operating system. Root access still means more responsibility than a tightly managed game panel.
Running the server at home can cost less in hosting fees, but Mojang’s Java setup guidance warns that home hosting requires network configuration and is not recommended unless the operator understands what they are doing. Port forwarding exposes a service through the home public IP, creating security and availability concerns.
A practical buying checklist
- List the players and edition. Write down Java or Bedrock, the expected peak concurrent players, and the countries or regions where they live.
- Identify the workload. Vanilla, plugins, a specific modpack, multiple instances, a proxy, or a public minigame network each changes the resource requirement.
- Compare recurring prices. Separate first-month discounts from regular monthly pricing. For prepaid VPS plans, calculate the upfront commitment and note the renewal rate.
- Check the CPU policy. Ask whether cores are shared, capped, or dedicated. Do not compare RAM figures without this information.
- Verify software support. Confirm the exact Minecraft version, loader, custom JAR policy, modpack installer, FTP or file access, and server-type switching.
- Choose the region. Put the server near most players and check whether the desired location is available on the specific plan.
- Read backup terms. Record slots, retention, storage, download access, restore steps, and add-on pricing.
- Confirm availability. Determine whether the plan sleeps, whether it is actually online 24/7, and what happens during maintenance.
- Review the exit policy. Check refund duration, cancellation timing, world-download access, and whether a migration can be completed without losing files.
- Test before expanding. Start with a representative world and workload. Monitor tick time, memory, CPU, disk, and player latency before buying a much larger plan.
Two adjacent tools that solve different problems
Client-side Windows troubleshooting
If only one player has crashes, graphical problems, network-device errors, or peripheral issues while other players are connecting normally, the problem may be on that player’s PC rather than the host. Outbyte Driver Updater is marketed for detecting outdated, missing, or corrupted Windows drivers and creating backups before updates. It may be relevant when you need to update outdated Windows drivers, but it cannot repair a remote host’s CPU limit, server-side lag, bad data-center location, or downtime. Diagnose the client and server separately before changing drivers.
Continuous Minecraft video
Streaming a server is separate from hosting it. For a server owner who wants a 24/7 Minecraft livestream of a prerecorded world tour, build showcase, or community event, StreamNeo says it can loop uploaded prerecorded video to YouTube from the cloud, recover automatically, and operate without leaving a PC or OBS session running. That is an optional livestreaming workflow, not a substitute for an online Minecraft server.
Stream a prerecorded Minecraft video 24/7
StreamNeo is designed for server owners who want to turn a prerecorded world tour, build showcase, or community event into an always-on YouTube Live broadcast. Upload a video and paste a YouTube stream key, and the stream runs in the cloud while your PC stays off.
StreamNeo checks stream health every 30 seconds and restarts a dropped stream automatically, which helps keep a continuous broadcast running without a local PC or encoder session. A free 24-hour 720p/30fps trial with no card at signup provides a sensible way to test the workflow first.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best Minecraft server host for a small group?
For a small vanilla group, compare Godlike.Host, Shockbyte, PebbleHost, BisectHosting, and ScalaCube in the 2–4 GB range. Pick based on the players’ nearest location, recurring price, CPU allocation, backups, and panel features rather than RAM alone.
How much RAM is needed for a modded Minecraft server?
Use 6–8 GB as an initial comparison range for many modpacks, but follow the specific modpack’s requirements. Mods, plugins, world size, view distance, chunk generation, and concurrent players can make the actual requirement higher or lower.
Does unlimited Minecraft server slots mean unlimited players?
No. Unlimited slots only removes or raises a configured slot number. CPU, RAM, storage, network capacity, world complexity, and the server software still limit how many players the world can support reliably.
Should I choose a sleeping server or a 24/7 plan?
Choose a sleeping plan such as Nodecraft Wake & Play for occasional private sessions where everyone accepts a wake-up delay. Choose an always-online plan for public communities, automated worlds, or any server that must be reachable at all times.
Is a Minecraft VPS better than managed game hosting?
A VPS is better for experienced administrators who need root access, custom software, or multiple services. Managed game hosting is usually better for players who want easier installation, support, backups, and less operating-system maintenance.
The Bottom Line
For most buyers, start with Godlike.Host, our top pick for Minecraft Java, Bedrock and modded servers, then fine-tune by use case: PebbleHost or Shockbyte for budget vanilla hosting, BisectHosting for a very large modpack catalog, Apex for a managed experience, Nodecraft Wake & Play for occasional sessions, and Nodecraft Premium or Apex for always-online availability.
Before ordering, verify the edition, location, recurring price, CPU resources, backup retention, server software, and sleep policy. Those details are more predictive of a good experience than a large RAM number, an unlimited-slot label, or an introductory promotion.
