Dillinger is the clearest fit if you want a browser-based Markdown editor with a stated direct Google Drive import-and-save workflow. For a desktop app, Typora can work with a Google Drive-synced folder, but that is third-party file synchronization rather than built-in Drive editing. Google Docs is another option: Google says it can open and edit Markdown files in Drive while keeping them as .md files, with some formatting limitations.
Which Google Drive workflow do you need?
“Works with Google Drive” can mean two different things: an editor connects to Drive to import and save files, or a desktop app edits local files inside a folder that a separate sync client keeps in Drive. Google Docs offers a third route by opening a Markdown file stored in Drive for editing.

- Direct browser-to-Drive workflow: Dillinger’s product pages say users can import and save Markdown files to Google Drive.
- Desktop editing in a synced folder: Typora works with plain-text Markdown files that can be synchronized by a third-party service such as Google Drive.
- Drive-native sharing and collaboration: Google Docs can open and edit Markdown files stored in Drive without converting them to Google Docs format.
These workflows are not equivalent. Choose based on where you want to edit, how you want files to reach Drive, and whether the document relies on formatting that Docs may alter.

|---|---|---|---|
| Dillinger | Its integrations page says users can import and save Markdown files to Google Drive. | Browser-based editing with an explicitly described Drive connection. | This is a vendor feature statement; the cited page does not establish details such as privacy, account requirements, or conflict handling. |
| Typora | Its support page says its plain-text Markdown files can be synchronized through third-party tools, including Google Drive. | Desktop writing when you already use a cloud-synced local folder. | Folder synchronization is not the same as a built-in Drive editor connection. Typora: a desktop editor paired with Drive folder sync
Typora is a desktop Markdown editor. Typora support describes its files as plain text and says they can be synchronized using third-party services such as Google Drive. In practice, the editor works on files in a local folder while a separate sync client handles the Drive copy; the cited support page does not describe Typora as a browser editor or a direct Drive OAuth workflow.

- Create a mix using audio, music and voice tracks and recordings.
- Customize your tracks with amazing effects and helpful editing tools.
- Use tools like the Beat Maker and Midi Creator.
- Work efficiently by using Bookmarks and tools like Effect Chain, which allow you to apply multiple effects at a time
- Use one of the many other NCH multimedia applications that are integrated with MixPad.
This route suits writers who prefer a desktop app and are comfortable managing a synced folder. Check how your sync client handles simultaneous edits and conflicts before working on the same file from multiple devices. Typora’s support page describes it as desktop-focused and says there was no near-term mobile version as of that page’s update.
Google Docs: edit Markdown files without changing the file type
Google’s Help page says users can preview a Markdown file in Drive and open it in Docs for editing while retaining the .md file type. Google describes Docs as “an editor where you can see the final format and work with others.” This makes Docs a practical option when Drive sharing and collaboration matter more than using a dedicated Markdown editor.

Open a Markdown file from Drive
- Upload the
.mdfile to Google Drive. - In Drive, open the Markdown file in Google Docs using Google’s documented workflow.
- Edit in Docs and check the result against your intended Markdown formatting before relying on the file elsewhere.
Formatting to check
Google documents these changes or limitations for Markdown files:
- Smart chips may change to text or links.
- HTML web formatting may become plain text.
- Font colors, highlights, and text alignment are removed.
If your Markdown document depends on any of those features, inspect the edited file carefully before choosing Docs as your regular editor.

How to choose
- Pick Dillinger if you want browser-based Markdown editing and a product-described direct import-and-save workflow with Drive.
- Pick Typora if you prefer a desktop app and are happy for a separate sync client to synchronize local Markdown files.
- Pick Google Docs if Drive collaboration and viewing the formatted result are priorities, and the documented formatting changes are acceptable for your file.
For any of the three, verify the current product documentation before moving a critical writing workflow. The cited integration details come from Google or the product vendors, not independent usability testing.
