The best live-stream widgets depend on what you want on screen and how you run your broadcast. For browser-source overlays and an option to build custom widgets with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, consider StreamElements. If you want to access a broad widget set through an OBS plugin, consider Streamlabs. Check that the specific widget you need is currently available before building your setup around it.
What live-stream widgets do
Widgets are on-screen elements that add information or respond to activity during a broadcast. Common examples include alerts, chat boxes, event lists, stream labels, and progress goals. They can be combined into overlays displayed in broadcasting software.

Both services describe widget features, but those features alone do not establish that widgets increase viewership, retention, or revenue. Choose them for the information or interaction you want to show, not as a guaranteed growth tactic.

How to add widgets to an OBS stream
StreamElements: add an overlay as a browser source
- Open the StreamElements Overlay Editor and create an overlay.
- Add an AlertBox or another widget. Use built-in elements, or the custom-code path if you need HTML, CSS, or JavaScript.
- Use the overlay as a browser source in your broadcast software. Follow the current StreamElements overlay documentation for the available workflow.
Streamlabs: use the OBS plugin or set up Chat Box
- Consult the current Streamlabs Plugin for OBS guide for plugin setup and access to its tools.
- For a chat overlay, follow the current Streamlabs Chat Box setup guide.
- Check that the particular widget you plan to use is still available; product interfaces and widget availability can change.
Check Streamlabs widget availability
Streamlabs’ notice says select widgets were sunset on April 12, 2026, and names Super Chat Goal among them. That date has passed, so do not assume the widget remains available: check the current Streamlabs notice before planning around it. The notice points Twitch users toward the Streamlabs Extension for certain engagement functionality; verify whether that option fits your platform and use case.
Optional: control OBS with a Stream Deck
A Stream Deck is a hardware control surface, not a widget provider, and you do not need one to use overlays. Elgato documents OBS actions for scenes, sources, audio, stream controls, recording, and replay buffer. Check the OBS integration requirements against your operating system and setup. Elgato says its OBS Studio plugin for Stream Deck is free on Elgato Marketplace; that describes the plugin, not the hardware.

Or let it run in the cloud
Widgets add elements to a live broadcast; they do not keep a pre-recorded YouTube stream running. If your goal is to loop uploaded video on YouTube, StreamNeo is a separate option: upload your video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It runs in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home; video streams as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Start a StreamNeo free day.
