OBS Studio is the best-documented Linux choice for looping a Gurbani video to YouTube Live. For one file, add it to an OBS scene as a Media Source and enable Loop. For an ordered playlist, use the VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed for that source to appear. These are documented setup options, not performance-test results. Install OBS on Linux
OBS lists Flatpak and Ubuntu builds among its officially supported Linux installation options. It recommends Flatpak for distributions other than Ubuntu; packages provided by other distributions may be maintained by their communities. Linux requires OpenGL 3.3 or later. [OBS Install Instructions]

Set up a video loop in OBS
For one Gurbani video
- Open OBS and select or create the scene that will carry the broadcast.
- In the Sources panel, add a Media Source and select the local video file.
- Enable Loop in the source properties, then confirm the video is visible in the active scene.
For a playlist of videos
- Install VLC. OBS requires it for the VLC Video source; make sure VLC and OBS have matching architectures (for example, both 64-bit).
- Add a VLC Video source to the active scene and add the files in the order you want them played.
- Enable Loop Playlist and confirm the source is visible in the scene.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
Your YouTube channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days. YouTube’s eligibility and setup guidance is at Get started with live streaming.
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select a stream and obtain its server URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions are at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube if offered, and enter the stream details. Use the server URL and stream key provided for that stream; treat the key like a password and do not share it.
- Prefer RTMPS where available. Before going live, verify the active scene, video playback and audio in OBS, then start streaming and check the Live Control Room’s stream-health messages.
Choose encoder settings and test the connection
YouTube’s general encoder guidance recommends H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), AAC or MP3 audio, frame rates up to 60 fps, and a two-second keyframe interval; the keyframe interval should not exceed four seconds. It publishes bitrate ranges by resolution, frame rate and codec, so select a value for your intended output rather than copying a number without checking the applicable range. - Base resolution and frame rate on the source video and the output you intend to send. A higher setting is not automatically better if the file or connection cannot sustain it.
- Measure upload speed on the connection that will carry the broadcast. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom above the total stream bitrate; download speed is not a substitute for upload capacity.
- Test with audio and movement similar to the planned broadcast. For a static video loop, specifically listen across the point where the clip restarts or the playlist advances.
- Monitor OBS and YouTube stream health after going live. A network disruption can interrupt the broadcast; YouTube cautions, “A disruption on your connectivity could mean a broken stream.” [YouTube streaming tips]
Check rights before rebroadcasting
Gurbani content is not automatically cleared for rebroadcast simply because it is religious. You need the necessary rights for the specific performance, recording and video, including applicable music licensing rights. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions place responsibility for those rights on the content provider. The rights status of any particular Gurbani work or recording depends on its own permissions and cannot be determined from the subject matter alone.

Troubleshoot common problems
