Open the exact product page, select the variant whose stock status you need to record, and capture the page after the out-of-stock message appears. Use a full-page screenshot for context and, if the message is hard to read, a second focused capture of the message or product details. Keep the original files and note the page address and capture time; a screenshot records what appeared in your browser, but does not independently authenticate the retailer’s stock status.
Choose the right kind of screenshot

A long full-page image can make small text difficult to read at normal display size. If context and legibility both matter, save a full-page image and a separate focused image.

Capture the page with Firefox
Use the Developer Tools screenshot button
- Open the exact product page and wait for its product details and stock message to appear.
- If the product has variants, select the specific variant whose status you want to record. Retailers may present variant availability differently, so check that the displayed selection and stock message correspond to one another.
- Open Firefox Developer Tools, select its Settings, and enable the screenshot button under “Available Toolbox Buttons.” Mozilla documents this button for capturing an entire page; Developer Tools can also capture a single element. Mozilla Firefox Source Docs: Taking screenshots.
- Choose a full-page capture for context. For a focused image, use the Developer Tools element capture on the relevant product or stock-status element.
- Find the saved screenshot in Firefox’s Downloads directory. The Firefox documentation also describes saving to the configured downloads folder. Mozilla Support: Firefox Screenshots.
Use Firefox’s Web Console helper
Firefox’s Web Console provides a :screenshot helper. For example, enter:

The documented options include --fullpage, --filename, and --delay. A delay can be useful when a state appears only after waiting or interacting with the page. Use a new filename for each capture you want to keep; saving again under the same filename overwrites the earlier file. See the Firefox screenshot documentation for the available options.
Capture a full page with Microsoft Edge
Microsoft documents Edge Web Capture’s “Capture full page” option. Open Web Capture, choose “Capture full page,” then save the image. The feature’s availability and controls can vary by device, market, and browser version; consult Microsoft’s Web Capture guidance if the option is not present in your Edge installation.

Keep a useful record
- Preserve the original screenshot without editing it. If you make a crop or annotation for easier reading, retain that as a separate copy.
- Record the product page address, capture time and time zone, selected variant, and browser if those details will help you interpret the image later.
- Make sure the product identity and stock message are visible in at least one image. A focused screenshot alone may omit enough context to make the page or selected variant unclear.
These notes help explain what you captured; they do not prove that every visitor saw the same status or independently authenticate the website’s state.

What a screenshot can and cannot establish
A screenshot is a record of what appeared in the browser at capture time. It does not, by itself, prove the retailer’s inventory, establish what other users saw, or guarantee legal admissibility or independent authentication. If you need formal evidentiary preservation, the appropriate method depends on your jurisdiction and intended use.
