For a smooth 60-FPS starting point, use 1920×1080, apply a 60-FPS cap when available, lower shadows and post-processing before textures, and test in a busy two-player scene. Kitaria Fables 2 is not released yet, so this is a provisional profile for the Steam demo and the final PC build if it exposes the same controls. The developer has announced a flexible two-player mode with drop-in and drop-out play, while Xbox and PlayStation listings confirm local and online co-op. Final PC requirements and the complete graphics menu are still unpublished.
What you can safely configure before launch
The most important limitation is that there is no final, measured PC performance profile to copy. The Steam listing currently marks system requirements as “TBC,” and no complete list of graphics options or target hardware has been published. That means no particular graphics card, preset or frame rate can honestly be guaranteed yet.

You can still establish a sensible baseline for the demo or a later PC build. Start at 1920×1080, use a 60-FPS cap if the menu provides one, reduce shadows and post-processing first, and leave textures at medium or high when your video memory permits. Check the result in a repeatable scene containing both heroes, combat effects, crops and several non-player characters. Change one setting at a time so you can identify which option affects frame-time.

The Xbox store listing (2026) advertises a “60 fps+” capability for Xbox Series X|S and lists two-player local and online co-op. That is a platform capability statement, not a promise that every PC will deliver the same result. The PlayStation product page confirms local and online co-op through the full story, with adjustable difficulty, pausing and basic control remapping. Its release date is still listed as to be determined.

Recommended PC settings for a stable 60 FPS
Use the following order whenever the demo or final build exposes the corresponding controls. The sequence prioritizes frame-time stability while preserving image quality where the performance cost is usually lower.
1. Choose the output resolution first
- Set the display resolution to 1920×1080. This is the practical baseline for testing because it gives the GPU substantially less work than 1440p or 4K while retaining a sharp image on most monitors and televisions.
- Use the monitor’s native refresh rate. Do not lower the desktop or display refresh rate to solve a game hitch; use the game’s frame cap or synchronization setting instead.
- If frame pacing remains uneven, reduce render scale or resolution before lowering textures. A lower internal resolution directly reduces the number of pixels rendered. Render-scale controls may be named “resolution scale,” “render scale” or “3D resolution,” depending on the build.
If the game offers a separate window mode, test exclusive fullscreen and borderless fullscreen on your system. Keep whichever produces steadier frame-time and reliable controller focus; there is no published Kitaria Fables 2 result that makes one mode universally preferable.
2. Cap the frame rate at 60
Enable a 60-FPS limiter if one appears in the video menu. A cap prevents the GPU from rendering unnecessary frames and avoids large swings between quiet exploration and busy co-op combat. An uncapped rate can show a higher peak number while still feeling less consistent when effects, crops and characters appear together.

If a 60-FPS option is absent, an external driver or operating-system limiter can be tested, but use only one limiter at a time so they do not compete.
3. Compare VSync with a cap-only configuration
Turn on VSync when visible tearing bothers you. VSync synchronizes completed frames with the display but can add latency or produce a noticeable cadence change if the system cannot sustain the display refresh target. For responsive controls, compare two repeatable configurations:

- 60-FPS cap with VSync off: usually the first option to test for low latency and stable frame-time.
- 60-FPS cap with VSync on: useful when tearing is distracting and the system remains consistently above the cap.
Judge the result while moving the camera and during a two-player fight, not while standing in an empty field. The better choice is the one with fewer visible hitches on your display.
4. Lower shadows and post-processing before textures
Set shadows to medium or low if combat or farming scenes dip below the target. Shadow maps and filtering can create short render-time spikes whenever several characters, objects or light sources are visible. Post-processing options—such as ambient occlusion, bloom, depth of field or motion blur, if present—should be the next group to reduce. Disable motion blur if it makes camera movement look smeared; that is a clarity preference as well as a performance test.
Reduce effects quality after shadows and post-processing. Effects can become expensive when attacks, weather, crops or other scene elements overlap. Make changes in small steps rather than switching every option to low, because the visual cost differs between settings.
5. Keep textures at medium or high when VRAM allows
Texture quality generally consumes video memory more than it changes per-frame rendering time. If the image looks overly soft after reducing resolution, restore textures to medium or high while watching for texture pop-in, missing surfaces or driver warnings. If the game reports video-memory pressure, lower textures one level and restart the test. The final game’s texture memory requirements have not been published, so treat this as a practical rule rather than a Kitaria-specific benchmark.
6. Validate the result in a repeatable route
- Load the same save or area each time.
- Start with both heroes present, then repeat the route while fighting, passing crops and approaching several NPCs.
- Record average FPS and, preferably, frame-time with your overlay or monitoring tool.
- Change one option, repeat the same route and keep the change only if the worst moments improve without an unacceptable image-quality loss.
This method tells you whether a setting fixes a repeatable workload instead of merely improving a quiet section of the map.

How to stop stuttering and uneven frame pacing
Stutter appears when entering a new area
Keep the 60-FPS cap in place and check whether the hitch occurs only during the first visit. A one-time pause can be asset or shader preparation rather than a sustained graphics bottleneck. Repeating the same route after the area has loaded helps distinguish that behavior from a setting that is always too demanding.
Recommended Free Tools
Dips happen during combat or farming
Lower shadows first, then post-processing and effects. Those settings are more likely to raise render-time during scenes with multiple characters, particles and lighting changes. Keep textures unchanged initially so you can identify the expensive effect without making the entire image blurry.
Performance is inconsistent only in co-op
Test with both Alice Skylar and Dusty Tuftkin active. The official announcement says both heroes are controlled simultaneously, so co-op adds characters, actions and interface activity that a solo test does not represent. If local play is smooth alone but uneven with two players, use the co-op route as your baseline and lower effects or shadows one step.
The counter says 60 FPS but motion still feels uneven
Look at frame-time rather than the headline FPS number. A counter can average 60 while alternating between fast and slow frames. Compare a 60-FPS cap with VSync off and on, and verify that another application is not repeatedly taking CPU or GPU time. Close recording, browser or overlay features temporarily while diagnosing the issue, then re-enable them one by one.
Input feels delayed after enabling synchronization
Compare the cap-only configuration with VSync enabled. If VSync introduces delay on your display, leave it off and retain the cap if tearing is acceptable. The game’s final synchronization implementation is not documented, so your monitor and driver combination determine the result.

Lowering every option does not fix the hitch
That pattern suggests the bottleneck may not be graphics quality. Check background CPU activity, controller or wireless-device reconnects, storage activity and driver errors. Reproduce the hitch in the same location after a clean game restart. Because the PC hardware targets are still TBC, there is no official minimum specification against which to classify the problem yet.
Does Kitaria Fables 2 support local co-op on one screen?
Yes, local two-player co-op is confirmed. The PlayStation description says local or online co-op continues through the full story with both heroes, and Xbox lists local co-op for two players. The developer’s Steam announcement describes a flexible two-player design in which player two can join or leave while player one continues the adventure.
Expect both players to occupy the same game world rather than receiving two independent story instances. The official descriptions emphasize that both heroes are present at once. SteamDB records the demo as supporting shared/split-screen co-op, so the demo or a platform-specific build may present the camera as shared or use a split-screen layout. Check the in-game co-op and display menus for the exact presentation in the build you are playing.
Local co-op setup
- Connect two compatible controllers before launching the game. The Steam demo is recorded as having full controller support.
- Start the game with player one and open the mode or multiplayer option.
- Select local co-op when that choice appears.
- Press the join button on the second controller when the prompt is displayed.
- Confirm that Alice Skylar and Dusty Tuftkin respond to separate controllers before entering a demanding area.
If the second controller is not detected, close other games and controller-mapping tools, reconnect both devices, then relaunch. On PC, test the controllers in Steam’s own input screen before opening the demo. If one device works in menus but not after joining, return to the title screen and repeat the join process with both controllers connected from startup.
How drop-in and drop-out co-op works
The official Steam announcement specifically supports player two joining or leaving while player one continues the adventure. This is different from a mode that requires both players to start and finish every session together. You can therefore begin alone, invite a second player for a combat or exploration session, and continue the save after that player exits, subject to the final build’s save and progression rules.

The announcement does not publish every condition for joining—for example, whether a particular cutscene, menu or combat encounter temporarily blocks entry. If the join prompt is unavailable, finish the current interaction, return to normal exploration and try again. Do not assume that a missing prompt means local co-op was removed; it may be restricted during that moment.
Steam Remote Play Together versus two controllers locally
SteamDB lists the demo as supporting Steam Remote Play Together as well as shared/split-screen co-op. Remote Play streams the host’s game to another participant, allowing two people to play without being in the same room. It is not the same as connecting two controllers to one local machine.
| Setup | What it uses | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Two local controllers | One PC or console with two input devices | Usually the most predictable input response and no internet streaming dependency. |
| Steam Remote Play Together | Host PC plus an internet connection and a remote participant | Convenient for distance play, but latency, bandwidth and input compression can affect responsiveness. |
For troubleshooting performance, establish a local two-controller baseline first. If the local session is smooth but Remote Play feels delayed, the network stream—not the game’s graphics settings—is the likely cause. Lowering shadows or resolution cannot remove network latency.

What the demo tells you—and what it does not
The Steam community information describes the demo as roughly 60% of the final release and about 10 hours long. Those figures describe the advertised demo scope, not a performance benchmark or a guarantee that every area and system is represented. A later build can change assets, lighting, effects, loading behavior and graphics options.
The developer community page currently places the planned launch in Spring 2027. The PlayStation page still shows the release date as to be determined, so the season is a plan rather than a locked date. Until the final PC requirements are published, treat any “runs on” claim based solely on the demo as provisional.
A practical pre-launch checklist
- Install the latest available demo or game build and update your graphics driver.
- Begin at 1920×1080 with a 60-FPS cap if available.
- Set shadows and post-processing lower before reducing textures.
- Keep textures at medium or high only when your video memory handles them without warnings or texture faults.
- Test solo and with both heroes in the same busy route.
- Record frame-time, not just average FPS.
- Compare VSync on and off if tearing or input delay is noticeable.
- For local co-op, connect both controllers before launch and verify separate hero control.
- For Remote Play Together, diagnose network latency separately from graphics performance.
- Recheck settings after major updates because the final release may expose different options.
Bottom line for a smooth co-op session
Use 1080p, cap at 60 FPS, reduce shadows and post-processing first, and judge performance in a two-player scene rather than an empty area. Local co-op and drop-in/drop-out play are confirmed, while Steam’s demo also lists Remote Play Together. Xbox has the clearest published 60-FPS capability statement; PC remains the most tunable but least specified platform until final requirements and graphics options are released.
