For an upper-tier shortlist, compare the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti with AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 XT; for a lower-cost option, consider the Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB, with more modest expectations for ray tracing at high resolutions. None is a universal winner: check results for your games and settings, and compare native rendering separately from upscaling and frame generation.
How to choose a ray-tracing GPU for your budget
Ray tracing is not a single, consistent workload. Performance changes with the game, resolution, quality settings and whether the game uses upscaling or frame generation. A card that performs well in one benchmark suite can rank differently in a game you care about, so use model recommendations as a shortlist rather than a guarantee.

- Start with your games and resolution. Seek benchmark results for the titles you play at your intended resolution and ray-tracing settings.
- Separate native performance from assisted rendering. Native rendering draws each frame at the output resolution. Upscaling reconstructs an image from a lower rendering resolution; frame generation inserts generated frames. They affect perceived smoothness and image quality differently, and generated frames are not a substitute for native frame-rate results.
- Compare the whole card and system fit. Check local street price, VRAM, power requirements, and the dimensions and cooling design of the specific board-partner model. Those details can differ between cards built around the same GPU.
- Verify the software feature in the game. DLSS and other vendor features depend on both GPU support and game implementation. “RTX” alone does not tell you that every newer DLSS feature is available.
Shortlist by spending tier
These three cards are useful comparison anchors, not fixed winners. Prices in benchmark roundups are dated page snapshots; check current offers in your country before deciding. Tom’s Hardware says its GPU roundup charts were updated in June 2026, but its listed prices do not establish today’s street price or availability in every region (Tom’s Hardware 2026 GPU roundup).
| Tier and card | What the evidence indicates | What to verify before buying |
|---|---|---|
| Upper tier: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti | A higher-performance ray-tracing candidate. NVIDIA says RTX 50-series GPUs use the Blackwell architecture and fourth-generation ray-tracing cores; this is the vendor’s description, not an independent performance comparison (NVIDIA RTX 50 Series). | Current local price; ray-tracing results in your games at your resolution; the exact DLSS features supported by this model and game; VRAM, board power, and the chosen card’s size and cooling. |
| Upper tier: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT | A genuine competitor to the RTX 5070 Ti. Tom’s Hardware combined 22 game results in its 2025 ray-tracing review and found the RX 9070 XT slightly slower overall in that test set. Its hierarchy also places it just behind the more expensive RTX 5070 Ti. Neither result predicts every game or price comparison (Tom’s Hardware RX 9070 XT ray-tracing results; Tom’s Hardware GPU hierarchy). | Whether its local price makes sense against the RTX 5070 Ti; results for your games and settings; available game-specific upscaling or frame-generation support; VRAM, power, and board dimensions and cooling. |
| Lower-cost tier: AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB | A budget-oriented candidate, but with limited headroom for ray tracing at higher resolutions. Tom’s Hardware’s review describes it as a budget/lower-mainstream GPU and cautions that higher-resolution ray tracing is a problem (Tom’s Hardware RX 9060 XT 16GB ray-tracing review). | Whether its lower local price compensates for the performance compromise; results in your actual games at the resolution and settings you intend to use; feature support, power requirements, and the dimensions and cooling of the particular card. |
What the comparisons do—and do not—show
RTX 5070 Ti versus RX 9070 XT
The cited independent comparisons put the RX 9070 XT close to the RTX 5070 Ti in aggregate ray-tracing performance, but slightly behind it in Tom’s Hardware’s tested set and reported hierarchy. The ranking is not a promise about a particular game, resolution, settings preset, or current value. Compare like-for-like results and then compare actual local prices.

RX 9060 XT 16GB as a budget choice
The 16GB model is a lower-tier way into this shortlist, not evidence that every game will run ray tracing comfortably at high resolution. If your target is demanding ray tracing at a higher resolution, look for specific benchmark results before buying; a less demanding resolution or settings target may better fit a limited budget.

NVIDIA’s comparison and DLSS pages show that feature availability varies across GeForce generations. Confirm support for the exact GPU and the specific game instead of assuming that every RTX card supports every newer DLSS capability (NVIDIA GeForce generation comparison; NVIDIA DLSS technology). For any upscaling or frame-generation result you use to compare cards, note the game and mode. Keep that result distinct from native ray-tracing frame rates.

Before you buy
- Choose the games, resolution, and ray-tracing settings you want to target.
- Compare benchmark results for those games at matching settings, separating native rendering from each upscaling or frame-generation mode.
- Check current local street prices rather than treating a roundup’s listed price as a live offer.
- Confirm the particular card’s VRAM, power needs and dimensions, and make sure your system and case can accommodate it.
- Verify that the game supports the feature mode you intend to use and that the GPU supports that feature.
