For the best starting point, use Performance mode on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S when responsiveness and steadier frame pacing matter. On PC, begin with the Medium or High preset, then reduce Shadow Quality, Foliage Detail and Visual Effects before lowering Texture Quality if frame pacing is poor. For motion comfort, widen the Field of View only as far as feels comfortable, reduce camera shake and enable the Stabilizing UI Dot. Turn on Subtitles, Sound Effect Captions and the Subtitle Directional Indicator, then adjust HUD scale, color profiles and high-contrast categories for visibility.

These are practical starting points rather than universal benchmarks. The result depends on your hardware, display, game build and the scene being rendered. Electronic Arts documents the available controls and patch changes, but its official material does not publish one combination that is demonstrably best for every PC or console.

Priority Best starting choice What you gain What you give up
Responsive combat and camera control Performance mode on console; Medium or High PC preset with targeted reductions More consistent motion and lower perceived input delay Some visual detail, and on consoles Performance mode disables ray tracing
Maximum visual fidelity Quality mode on console; keep higher PC settings when frame pacing allows More detailed lighting, shadows and effects Lower frame-rate target and less immediate response in demanding scenes
Motion comfort Comfortable Field of View, reduced camera shake and Stabilizing UI Dot Less disorienting camera movement A wider view or stabilizing marker may not suit every player
Hearing access Subtitles with enlarged scale, Sound Effect Captions and directional indicators Dialogue and non-speech cues remain readable and locatable A busier interface
Color and visual separation HUD Scale, Color Profile Settings and High Contrast Settings More distinguishable gameplay categories and larger interface elements Altered colors and increased visual emphasis

Change one group of options at a time, play the same demanding area for several minutes, and keep the setting only if it solves the problem without creating a new one.

Best PC graphics settings for steadier FPS

Start with a sensible baseline

Select the Medium or High graphics preset as a baseline. A preset gives you a known starting point; it is easier to identify a bottleneck when you alter individual settings afterward than when every option is already at a different value.

Choose Performance Mode when the game exposes that choice and consistent frame delivery is more important than maximum effects. On PC, the useful equivalent is a balanced preset followed by targeted reductions rather than automatically selecting the lowest preset.

Lower the settings that usually help frame pacing first

  1. Reduce Shadow Quality. Shadows can be expensive in scenes with many lights and objects. Lower this before sacrificing texture detail.
  2. Reduce Foliage Detail. Dense vegetation can increase both rendering work and the number of objects being processed. Test a lower value in outdoor areas where the hitch is most obvious.
  3. Reduce Visual Effects. Effects quality affects particles and other screen-space work. Lower it when combat or effects-heavy scenes cause uneven delivery.
  4. Keep Texture Quality higher initially. Texture quality affects image detail and is not the first change recommended for frame-pacing problems. Reduce it only after the three settings above have been tested and the problem remains.
  5. Leave View Distance at High while testing. Keep distant geometry visible until you establish that view distance is a major bottleneck on your own system. Lowering it too early can make the world look noticeably less complete without fixing the actual cause.

Electronic Arts’ accessibility resource lists the visual controls, while its patch notes document PC hitching work, frame-rate fixes, ray-tracing optimization and DLSS support: EA accessibility settings and EA patch notes.

Use DLSS only when your build and GPU expose it

If the current PC patch and your graphics card present a DLSS option, test it at your target resolution. Upscaling can improve performance, but the available modes and image result depend on the game build and GPU. If DLSS is absent, do not treat that absence as a fault; the option is conditional rather than guaranteed on every PC.

Keep a repeatable test routine

After each change, load the same save or area and perform the same movement and combat sequence. Check both average smoothness and brief hitches. A setting that looks fine in a quiet corridor can behave differently outdoors or during a large fight. Record the previous value so you can undo a change that improves one scene but harms another.

How to troubleshoot PC stutter and hitching

There is no official universal FPS or latency number that applies to every PC, resolution and scene. Treat any target as a personal consistency goal rather than a promise from the settings menu.

When frame pacing is uneven

  • Confirm that the game is running the latest available PC patch for your platform.
  • Apply the graphics order above: shadows, foliage and effects first; textures afterward if necessary.
  • Test View Distance separately instead of lowering it at the same time as several other options.
  • If DLSS is available for your build and GPU, compare it with native rendering in the same test area.
  • Recheck after every change. Patch fixes can alter which option is the limiting factor.

When the game feels responsive but still hitches

Do not infer a single cause from one short pause. Compare an indoor and outdoor area, a quiet traversal segment and an effects-heavy fight, then note which settings change the behavior. EA’s patch history includes work on hitching, frame rate and ray tracing, so a setting recommendation that was useful on an earlier build may not describe the current one. The patch notes are the authoritative place to check what a particular update changed: version notes from Electronic Arts.

PS5 and Xbox Series X|S: Performance or Quality?

Choose Performance for control

Select Performance mode when responsive parries, traversal and camera movement matter more than maximum visual fidelity. EA’s Patch 8 notes say Performance mode was completely reworked, ray tracing was disabled in that mode, and the changes were intended to provide a solid 60 FPS experience. That is a patch target, not a guarantee that every scene, display or later build will hold exactly 60 FPS.

Choose Quality for fidelity

Select Quality mode when you prefer the highest visual presentation and can accept a less aggressive frame-rate target. This is the appropriate choice for a slower, image-first play-through or for a display where visual detail matters more than rapid input response.

Remember the cinematic limit

EA states in the same Patch 8 notes that console cinematics remain locked to 30 FPS. A 60 FPS gameplay mode therefore does not mean every cutscene will play at that rate; a change in cadence during cinematics is expected.

Settings for motion sickness and camera discomfort

Set Field of View by comfort, not by a universal number

Increase Field of View gradually until peripheral movement feels manageable. A wider view can reduce the sense that the camera is pressing close to the character, but an overly wide view can introduce its own visual distortion. Stop at the widest value you can use comfortably for a full play session.

Reduce camera movement

Lower Camera Shake where the option is available. This removes or softens jolts during impacts and traversal without requiring a change to combat difficulty.

Enable the Stabilizing UI Dot

Turn on the Stabilizing UI Dot if camera motion makes it difficult to maintain visual focus. The fixed reference point can make movement easier to tolerate; disable it if the marker itself is distracting. EA identifies Field of View and the stabilizing dot among the game’s visual and accessibility options, and its design discussion covers camera-shake adjustment: accessibility controls and EA’s accessibility design article.

Subtitles and hearing-access settings

Make spoken dialogue readable

Turn on Subtitles, then increase Subtitles Scale until text can be read from your normal seating distance. If small text is difficult to track during combat or exploration, a larger size is more useful than relying on the default.

Expose non-speech information

  • Sound Effect Captions: show important non-speech sounds that may otherwise be missed.
  • Subtitle Directional Indicator: add directional context so you can tell where a captioned sound originates.
  • Dialogue Closed Captions: include background dialogue and other spoken information that ordinary subtitles may not capture.

Use all three when hearing loss, room noise or a busy soundtrack makes audio cues unreliable. If the screen becomes crowded, keep the options that solve your specific problem rather than disabling every caption.

Improve caption contrast

EA provides separate controls for subtitle text color, subtitle background audio and subtitle background. Adjust these independently: brighter text does not help if the background has similar contrast, and a stronger background may obscure nearby action. The available caption controls are listed in EA’s accessibility resource: subtitle and caption settings.

Vision, color and interface clarity

Increase HUD Scale for legibility

Raise HUD Scale if health, ability, map or interaction information is hard to read. Increase it until the smallest regularly used element is legible, then check that the enlarged interface does not cover important gameplay.

Configure Color Profile Settings

Use Color Profile Settings to change the game’s color presentation when default hues are difficult to distinguish. Evaluate the result in both a dark interior and a bright outdoor area because a profile that separates one scene may reduce contrast in another.

Use High Contrast Settings by category

Patch 8 added High Contrast Settings. Categories can receive distinct colors for the player, allies, hazards, Force elements, interactables, navigation and BD-1 tools. This lets you emphasize the information you actually need instead of applying one indiscriminate color treatment to the whole screen.

EA’s accessibility resource says the color system offers up to 18 selectable colors for relevant HUD and gameplay categories. Select colors that remain distinct for you, then verify them against the game’s environments. The same resource describes background saturation control, which can reduce competing color intensity behind important markers: EA’s color and contrast guidance and Patch 8 details.

Use accessibility as a practical control scheme

Accessibility settings are not only for a diagnosed condition. Larger HUD elements, stronger category separation and captions can reduce visual search time for anyone playing on a distant television, in a bright room or with low game volume. Morgan Baker, EA Program Lead for Accessibility, describes the goal as reducing unnecessary barriers so everyone can enjoy the games: EA’s accessibility design article.

Slow motion, difficulty and navigation assistance

Use Slow Motion for timing-heavy encounters

Slow Motion changes the speed of gameplay so attacks, parries and traversal timing are easier to read. Patch 8 added 30%, 50% and 75% presets, along with a custom Slow Motion value. Start with the smallest reduction that makes a specific barrier manageable; a stronger reduction changes the feel of the entire game and may make routine movement feel unnaturally slow.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Because this is a timing aid rather than a graphics option, you can combine it with Performance or Quality mode. Choose the visual mode for image and responsiveness, then use Slow Motion only when timing is the limiting factor.

Adjust difficulty without abandoning other assists

Change the difficulty when enemy damage, reaction windows or encounter pressure are the problem. Gameplay assists can address a narrower barrier, so you do not have to make every combat interaction easier just because one mechanic is difficult.

Make enemies and routes easier to read

EA’s PC gameplay resource documents enemy-visibility choices, fall-damage behavior and navigation guidance in the holomap and binoculars. Use those options when the obstacle is locating a threat, judging a drop or understanding the intended route rather than executing a precise attack: EA’s PC gameplay accessibility guide.

A practical setup sequence for a new play-through

  1. Pick the platform goal. On PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, select Performance for responsiveness or Quality for fidelity. On PC, choose Medium or High as the initial preset.
  2. Check the display and seating distance. Decide whether small HUD elements, captions or rapid camera movement are already difficult before changing graphics quality.
  3. Apply motion-comfort controls. Set a comfortable Field of View, reduce Camera Shake and enable the Stabilizing UI Dot if needed.
  4. Set captions before the first mission. Turn on Subtitles, choose a readable scale, and add Sound Effect Captions, Subtitle Directional Indicator and Dialogue Closed Captions when audio information is easy to miss.
  5. Configure visual separation. Adjust HUD Scale, Color Profile Settings, High Contrast categories and background saturation until important markers remain distinct.
  6. Test PC performance in a demanding area. If frame pacing is unstable, lower shadows, foliage and effects in that order, then test textures and View Distance separately.
  7. Add timing or navigation help only where required. Try a 30% Slow Motion preset before moving to 50%, 75% or a custom value, and enable the relevant gameplay assists for enemy visibility, fall damage or route guidance.
  8. Revisit after a patch. Patch changes can alter performance and available options. Recheck EA’s current notes before assuming that an older workaround is still necessary.

What these recommendations can and cannot guarantee

Electronic Arts’ official resources establish which controls exist and describe the intent of major patch changes. They do not provide one independent benchmark covering every PC processor, graphics card, resolution, display, console scene and software build. Consequently, Performance mode is a responsiveness-oriented choice rather than a promise of an identical frame rate in every moment, and PC reductions are a tuning order rather than a universal optimum.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use the settings to remove your specific barrier: stabilize frame pacing, reduce camera discomfort, make captions readable, separate colors, or lower timing and navigation demands. Keep a note of the values that work on your hardware and display, and reassess after game updates.
