If you want more Halo right now, start with Halo Infinite multiplayer: its multiplayer modes are free to play, and Halo Support says you do not need a Game Pass subscription. If you want a new campaign instead, try Titanfall 2 for a distinct sci-fi shooter or DOOM Eternal for a more intense, different style of combat. And if you have missed the older games, Halo: The Master Chief Collection is the direct route back to classic Halo campaigns.
Choose by what you miss about Halo
- A Halo campaign: Play Halo: The Master Chief Collection if you want to revisit the series’ older campaigns.
- Halo multiplayer without an upfront purchase: Try Halo Infinite multiplayer, which Halo Support describes as free to play.
- A fresh sci-fi campaign: Consider Titanfall 2 as a separate-franchise alternative.
- Fast, high-intensity shooting: Consider DOOM Eternal, while expecting a different flavor from Halo.
- A newer sci-fi multiplayer structure: Look at Marathon if team scavenging and extraction appeal to you more than conventional arena matches.
These are recommendations based on the kind of experience you may be looking for, not claims that another game duplicates Halo. For more Halo multiplayer now: Halo Infinite
If what you want is the Halo multiplayer format itself, start here rather than looking for a substitute. Halo Support says Halo Infinite multiplayer and Academy are free to play, and a Game Pass subscription is not required for multiplayer. Its overview lists Arena and Big Team Battle, PvP and PvE modes, custom games, multiplayer split-screen, crossplay and cross-progression, and Forge tools for creating multiplayer maps and modes. The campaign is separate from the free multiplayer and may be purchased or accessed through some Game Pass memberships. Membership access can change, so check the current offer for your region before subscribing. For a player whose priority is simply getting into Halo matches, the free multiplayer is the clearest first stop.

For classic Halo campaigns: Halo: The Master Chief Collection
If you have not played the older Halo campaigns—or want to return to them—Halo: The Master Chief Collection is the most direct recommendation because it keeps you in the Halo universe. It is listed in Microsoft’s Xbox shooter catalog. Check the store listing for your platform and region for current availability and purchase or subscription terms.
This is the choice for continuity, not a new setting or a stand-in for an upcoming release. Xbox’s Halo games and updates hub is a useful place to follow official series information.

For a new sci-fi campaign: Titanfall 2
Titanfall 2 is a reasonable pick if you want a different science-fiction shooter campaign while waiting. The recommendation is an editorial match for readers seeking a separate sci-fi adventure; Microsoft’s catalog listing confirms the game’s presence in its Xbox shooter catalog, not a particular comparison with Halo’s story, pacing, or mechanics. If you are choosing it specifically for a campaign, check the platform store page to confirm the edition and availability that apply to you.
For a more intense shooter: DOOM Eternal
Choose DOOM Eternal if your main goal is high-intensity shooting rather than Halo-like setting or multiplayer structure. It is best treated as a different flavor of shooter, not a close Halo substitute. Microsoft lists it in its Xbox shooter catalog, but that listing does not establish its current price or whether it is included with a subscription.

For team scavenging and extraction: Marathon
Marathon offers a newer sci-fi multiplayer option if you are open to an extraction-shooter structure. Xbox Wire describes crews of up to three players scavenging and extracting while contending with AI and rival Runner teams. That is a different premise from Halo Infinite’s Arena and Big Team Battle playlists, so pick Marathon for the extraction loop rather than expecting conventional Halo matches.

For readers waiting specifically for a new Halo campaign, Xbox Wire’s July 21, 2026 Game Pass roundup identifies Halo: Campaign Evolved as a “faithful yet modernized remake” of Halo: Combat Evolved. The article says it is rebuilt from the ground up with HD visuals and refined controls, supports up to four-player online co-op, and adds three missions along with weapons, vehicles, and enemies. It lists July 28, 2026 and day-one Game Pass availability. Those are the details in that announcement; check the current listing for release status and availability before relying on them. How to make the choice
- Decide between story and repeatable matches. For a campaign, consider The Master Chief Collection or Titanfall 2; for Halo matches, start with Halo Infinite multiplayer.
- Choose whether you want Halo continuity. The Master Chief Collection stays within the series. The other recommendations are separate franchises.
- Pick the multiplayer structure you want. Halo Infinite offers Arena and Big Team Battle; Marathon centers on scavenging and extraction with a team.
- Check access before buying or subscribing. Free-to-play status is documented for Halo Infinite multiplayer. For other games, verify the current platform, region, edition, price, and subscription terms in the relevant store.
