The next named Halo game is Halo: Campaign Evolved, a remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign planned for 2026—not a sequel to Halo Infinite. Halo Studios has said it is developing multiple games, but the official announcements reviewed here do not identify a separate mainline follow-up to Infinite or give one a title, story, or release date.

What is the next Halo game?

Halo: Campaign Evolved is the next named upcoming game in the official announcements covered here. Xbox announced it on October 24, 2025, as a complete remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign, rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5 and planned for release in 2026. “Planned” is not a specific launch date, and the announcement does not establish that the game has shipped.

It is not described as a continuation of Halo Infinite. The project returns to the series’ original campaign rather than advancing the story after Infinite.

How Infinite and Campaign Evolved compare

Story relationship The story does not have a confirmed sequel in the reviewed announcements. A return to the original campaign, not a story follow-up to Infinite.
Current status Halo says major updates may be ending, while challenges, ranked seasons, and community events are planned to continue. Planned for 2026; no exact release day is given in the announcement.
Platforms Not compared here; the cited announcement is about the new remake. Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, and PlayStation 5, as announced by Xbox.

What Campaign Evolved includes

Xbox described the project as a remake that aims to preserve the original’s core gameplay while rebuilding its presentation. The platform announcement includes comments from the development team about that design goal, but it does not establish how the finished game will feel in play.

Is Campaign Evolved Halo 7 or an Infinite sequel?

No. Xbox and Halo Studios describe Campaign Evolved as a remake of the first game’s campaign, with additional prequel missions. The cited announcements do not call it Halo 7 or present it as the next numbered mainline entry.

Halo Studios announced in October 2024 that it was developing multiple projects, but did not name them in that announcement. The later confirmation of Campaign Evolved identifies one project; it does not confirm a separate sequel to Infinite. The official material covered here provides no title, plot, release date, or gameplay details for such a sequel. That is a limit of what these announcements confirm, not proof that no other project exists.

Is Halo Infinite still getting updates?

Halo Waypoint’s Operation: Infinite Update Preview says Operation: Infinite may be the last major update currently planned. The same post says daily and weekly challenges, ranked seasons, and community events are expected to continue “throughout next year and beyond,” and that Halo Studios is shifting focus toward projects in development, including Campaign Evolved.

That is a service plan stated in an official post, not a guarantee that every activity or schedule will remain unchanged. Live-service details can change, so consult the Halo Waypoint update for the latest stated plans.

Why Halo Studios is using Unreal Engine 5

In October 2024, 343 Industries announced that it was changing its name to Halo Studios and that future Halo projects would use Unreal Engine 5. The studio said multiple projects were in development. Xbox’s 2024 interview also reported that a new Halo game was not imminent at that time; that was a statement made in 2024, not a current forecast or release window.
