Best Games to Play if You Like Halo’s Campaign and Multiplayer

Titanfall 2 is the best all-round match for Halo fans seeking campaign and multiplayer. DOOM Eternal and Splitgate suit different priorities.

Titanfall 2 is the strongest all-round pick if you want another science-fiction shooter with both a story campaign and multiplayer. Its agile Pilot movement and giant Titans make it feel different from Halo, but it covers both modes. For a campaign-first game, consider DOOM Eternal; for portal-based multiplayer, try Splitgate. Neither is a direct substitute for Halo’s traditional arena PvP.

How to choose a Halo alternative

“Like Halo” can mean a memorable sci-fi campaign, competitive multiplayer, or a shooter that includes both. The games below serve different parts of that request, so compare their modes and combat rather than expecting any one to reproduce Halo’s feel.

Best all-round pick: Titanfall 2

EA describes Titanfall 2 as having a single-player campaign about the bond between Pilot and Titan, alongside an expanded multiplayer experience. That makes it the clearest match here for someone who wants both a campaign and online play in a science-fiction FPS. EA’s Titanfall 2 features page lays out those modes.

The difference is in how it plays: pilots move quickly, and Titans bring mech combat into the mix. It is a good overlap in mode variety and sci-fi action, not a one-to-one replacement for Halo’s combat or multiplayer structure.

Best for a campaign-first player: DOOM Eternal

DOOM Eternal offers a single-player campaign and BATTLEMODE, a 2-versus-1 multiplayer mode. Bethesda and PlayStation describe the campaign, while PlayStation identifies BATTLEMODE’s format. See Bethesda’s DOOM Eternal overview and the PlayStation game page.

Choose it for a substantial FPS campaign and high-intensity combat. Its multiplayer is structurally different from conventional Halo arena matches, so it is a weaker fit if competitive team-versus-team PvP is the main thing you want to keep.

Best for portal-based multiplayer: Splitgate

Splitgate is a free-to-play multiplayer shooter built around player-controlled portals. PlayStation describes casual and competitive modes, and its listing advertises more than 15 game modes and over 20 maps; those figures are product-description claims from that listing, not independent measurements, and may change. The PlayStation Splitgate page gives its current listed features.

Splitgate’s connection to Halo is also part of its design history: in a 2021 Xbox Wire interview, 1047 Games CEO Ian Proulx said, “I grew up playing a lot of Halo 2 and Halo 3 and was completely captivated by their straightforward but sophisticated gameplay.” That is the creator’s account of inspiration, not proof that the games play identically. Xbox Wire’s interview provides the context.

At a glance

Game Best fit Campaign Multiplayer Key difference
Titanfall 2 Campaign and multiplayer in a sci-fi FPS EA confirms a single-player story about the Pilot and Titan bond. EA describes an expanded multiplayer experience. Fast Pilot movement and Titans change the combat feel.
DOOM Eternal Campaign-first players Bethesda and PlayStation list a single-player campaign. 2-versus-1 BATTLEMODE. Not conventional arena PvP.
Splitgate Portal-based multiplayer A story campaign is not established by the cited official listing. Free-to-play multiplayer with casual and competitive modes, according to PlayStation. Best considered for multiplayer, not as a full campaign replacement.

What about Halo: Campaign Evolved?

Halo: Campaign Evolved is not an alternative from another franchise: it is an announced remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign. Xbox Wire’s October 2025 announcement planned it for 2026 and listed Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and Game Pass Ultimate/PC Game Pass. PlayStation describes two-player console split-screen and up to four-player online co-op. Those are announcement details, not confirmation of its current release status, and the cited material describes cooperative campaign play rather than competitive multiplayer. Check the Xbox Wire announcement and PlayStation listing for updated availability and features.

Which one should you try?

  • Want both story and multiplayer? Start with Titanfall 2.
  • Want a campaign above all? Choose DOOM Eternal, knowing BATTLEMODE is a distinct 2v1 format.
  • Want inventive multiplayer? Consider Splitgate for its portal-based matches, but do not assume the cited listing includes a story campaign.
  • Want more Halo? Follow Halo: Campaign Evolved’s official listings for current release information; it is a campaign remake, not a new-franchise alternative.

Current prices, regional availability, online population, and matchmaking health are not established by the cited sources for these games. Check the relevant platform store and official listings before deciding.
