The right follow-up depends on which part of Jedi: Survivor mattered most: its continuing story, lightsaber-and-Force combat, ability-gated exploration, cinematic presentation, or Star Wars setting.
Jedi: Survivor is a third-person, galaxy-spanning action-adventure from Respawn Entertainment made with Lucasfilm Games. It continues Cal Kestis’s story five years after Fallen Order, adding more Force abilities, an expanded skill tree, broader traversal and lightsaber stances such as Dual Wield, Cross-Guard and Blaster. The recommendations below match those elements selectively rather than pretending any one game reproduces all of them.

This table is a decision aid, not a claim that the games have identical mechanics, difficulty options or platform availability. “Story continuity” indicates whether you follow Cal directly or begin with a new cast.

1. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order — the direct next play
If you finished Survivor without playing its predecessor, Fallen Order is the clearest recommendation. It is the first Cal Kestis adventure, so it supplies the character history and progression that Survivor assumes you already know. The official description calls it “a brand-new action adventure game” telling an original Star Wars story about Cal, a Padawan who survived the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.

Why it matches Survivor
Fallen Order uses the same fundamental third-person action-adventure foundation: travel through Star Wars locations, open routes with newly acquired abilities, and fight with a lightsaber while combining strikes, parries and dodges. That makes it a better structural match than any unrelated sword game. You will recognize the rhythm of learning an enemy’s attack, responding at the right moment and returning to previously inaccessible routes.
What will feel different
Survivor expands Cal’s movement options, skill tree and lightsaber choices. Fallen Order is the earlier, more focused version of that formula, so approach it as a prequel rather than expecting every later convenience or stance. Its value is context: character relationships, the beginning of Cal’s journey and the foundation on which the later game builds.
Who should choose it
- Players who reached Survivor first and want the missing chapter.
- Anyone who wants another solo Star Wars action-adventure rather than a different setting.
- Players who care more about Cal’s story and lightsaber fundamentals than about having the newest traversal systems.
After completing the campaign, New Journey+ and challenge modes can provide a reason to revisit the combat. Use them when you want to practice the core parry-and-dodge loop rather than move immediately to another game.

2. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice — for demanding sword parries
Choose Sekiro when the part of Survivor you loved most was reading an opponent, deflecting an attack and winning through precise melee timing. It is not a Star Wars substitute and does not reproduce Survivor’s broad galaxy-spanning adventure structure. Its match is the priority it gives to sword defense and execution.
How the combat comparison works
In Survivor, parrying is one option within a larger toolkit of lightsaber stances, Force powers and movement abilities. Sekiro makes that kind of response the center of its sword encounters. The result is a more demanding practice loop: observe an attack, answer with a correctly timed deflection, maintain pressure and learn from mistakes.

What you give up
- No Cal Kestis, lightsabers, Force abilities or Star Wars locations.
- No direct equivalent to Survivor’s ability-gated planetary exploration.
- A different tone and fiction, with the challenge of sword mastery taking precedence over cinematic franchise storytelling.
When to pick Sekiro instead of another recommendation
Pick it over an open-world game if you remember specific duels more vividly than the scenery. It is also the strongest choice for a player who wants to sharpen timing and prefers a demanding combat lesson to a larger collection of weapons or sightseeing destinations.
3. Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut — for open-world exploration and swordplay
Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is the best fit when your favorite part of Survivor was roaming through a substantial landscape, finding optional activities and switching between exploration and sword fights. The connection is scale and rhythm, not setting: it offers a different world, tone and protagonist.

Where Survivor uses abilities to reveal routes and secrets across its environments, Ghost of Tsushima presents a broader open-world structure. That changes the question from “Which new ability opens this door?” to “Which direction or activity should I pursue next?” Choose it if the pleasure of moving through a landscape and deciding your own order of objectives matters as much as the main plot.
Why the swordplay still feels relevant
The game’s varied combat keeps sword fighting central while giving you a wider range of situations than a corridor-to-arena sequence. The pacing is less about reproducing a lightsaber stance and more about managing different encounters across an open world. Expect a different combat vocabulary, but a familiar satisfaction in learning an opponent and choosing the right response.
Set expectations before starting
This is not a Star Wars story, and its atmosphere is not built around the Force, lightsaber forms or science-fiction travel. Choose the Director’s Cut for the combination of exploration and melee variety; do not choose it expecting Cal’s character arc to continue.

4. God of War Ragnarök — for cinematic, story-led action
God of War Ragnarök is the recommendation for players who valued Survivor as a cinematic adventure: a strong narrative, evolving character relationships and combat staged around major set pieces. The match is presentation and story emphasis rather than lightsaber authenticity or Star Wars continuity.

What carries over from Survivor
Both games place a story-led journey around action encounters instead of treating combat as an isolated competitive system. Exploration supports the narrative, while set pieces give the campaign a sense of escalation. If you remember conversations, character decisions and dramatic transitions as strongly as you remember boss fights, this is the alternative to prioritize.
What changes
You follow a different cast in an original mythic setting, with its own weapons, abilities and relationship dynamics. Do not approach it as another parry-training game or as a substitute for Cal’s Force powers. Its appeal is the way cinematic storytelling and combat share the same campaign structure.
Choose it when story comes first
- You want a campaign driven by character relationships and set pieces.
- You prefer a focused narrative arc to a massively multiplayer world.
- You are comfortable leaving Star Wars behind in exchange for another high-production action-adventure.
5. Star Wars Outlaws — for another Star Wars setting with a different hero
Star Wars Outlaws keeps the galaxy and franchise atmosphere but changes the player fantasy. It is a choice for someone who wants to remain in Star Wars rather than someone specifically seeking lightsaber combat.
What remains familiar
The setting supplies the recognizable Star Wars context: a galaxy-spanning backdrop, factions and locations that feel separate from Cal’s particular Jedi journey. If the appeal of Survivor was simply spending time in that universe, this preserves that part of the experience.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
What does not carry over
You play a different kind of hero, and the combat approach is not a lightsaber-and-Force system. That means it should not be marketed to yourself as a mechanical replacement for Survivor’s stances, parries or Force abilities. Think of it as a change of viewpoint within Star Wars, not another chapter of Cal’s story.
Who should pick it
Select it when setting and atmosphere matter more than Jedi progression. If your priority is a close combat match, choose Fallen Order or Sekiro instead.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.6. Star Wars: The Old Republic — for a much larger online commitment
Star Wars: The Old Republic is for readers who want to spend substantially more time in the Star Wars universe and are willing to trade Survivor’s tightly authored solo adventure for an online role-playing game. Lucasfilm describes it as the only massively multiplayer online Star Wars game, with a free-to-play option and a story-driven saga.
Why it is a different category
The scale is the selling point: a persistent online setting, a player-created path and a community-oriented format. That can provide far more room for long-term progression than a single-player campaign. It is not a direct replacement for Survivor’s third-person lightsaber encounters, ability-gated exploration or fixed Cal Kestis narrative.
Questions to answer before choosing it
- Do you want an online game rather than a self-contained solo campaign?
- Are you comfortable with a longer-term role-playing commitment?
- Does a story-driven Star Wars saga matter more than controlling Cal specifically?
Choose it for breadth, ongoing participation and Star Wars role-playing. Choose one of the solo recommendations if you want a campaign with a defined beginning and ending.

How to choose based on the part of Survivor you miss
“I want more of Cal Kestis.”
Play Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. It is the only recommendation here that follows Cal directly and fills in the story that comes before Survivor. It is the natural choice even if you already know how the later game ends.
“I want lightsaber-style timing and parries.”
Start with Sekiro if precision and difficulty are the priority. Return to Fallen Order if the Star Wars setting and Cal’s abilities matter just as much as timing.
“I want to explore a larger world.”
Choose Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut. Its open-world structure is the clearest contrast with Survivor’s ability-gated spaces while retaining a strong sword-fighting focus.
“I want another cinematic action story.”
Choose God of War Ragnarök. Its value is story presentation, relationships and set pieces, not a Star Wars setting or identical combat.
“I want to stay in Star Wars.”
Choose Star Wars Outlaws for a different hero and combat approach, or The Old Republic if you specifically want a much larger online saga. Neither continues Cal’s story.
A practical play order
- Play Fallen Order first if you skipped it. This gives you the original Cal Kestis adventure before revisiting the sequel’s expanded systems.
- Use Sekiro for a combat-focused change of pace. Pick it when you want to concentrate on deflection and demanding sword encounters rather than learn another story-heavy world.
- Move to Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut for exploration. Its open-world structure provides the largest change in how you travel and choose activities.
- Choose God of War Ragnarök for another cinematic campaign. This keeps the action-adventure format while changing the fiction and cast.
- Return to Star Wars with Outlaws or The Old Republic only if the setting is the deciding factor. Select the former for a solo, different-hero experience and the latter for online scale.
Release and continuity notes
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was listed by PlayStation with a release date of April 28, 2023. StarWars.com’s current description places its story five years after Fallen Order. That timeline is why Fallen Order remains the essential next game for anyone who encountered the sequel first: it is not merely similar thematically, but the preceding chapter of the same character’s story.
The other recommendations deliberately occupy different lanes. Sekiro isolates demanding sword defense; Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut expands the exploration space; God of War Ragnarök emphasizes cinematic narrative; Star Wars Outlaws changes the hero while retaining the galaxy; and The Old Republic changes the format to a large online saga.

Bottom line: the best follow-up depends on your favorite feature
For the closest overall match, play Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. For the strongest parry challenge, choose Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. For open-world swordplay, choose Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut. For cinematic storytelling, choose God of War Ragnarök. For another Star Wars perspective, choose Star Wars Outlaws; for a long-term online Star Wars commitment, choose Star Wars: The Old Republic.
