Best Games Like Reforj for Voxel Building and Survival (2026)

Core Keeper is the closest alternative if your priority is cooperative mining, crafting, farming and base progression. Choose Trove for a free-to-play voxel MMO with classes and persistent rewards, Terraria for a much deeper combat-and-boss progression arc in 2D, or Minecraft for the broadest creative-survival sandbox and mature multiplayer ecosystem. None is a perfect one-to-one replacement for Reforj: each shifts the camera, survival pressure, progression model or social structure.

Reforj itself is still being shaped through Pioneer playtests. 4J Studios says player feedback will directly affect development, and Title Update 7, published on 22 April 2026, added mobs, farming, circuits, Magshell transportation, sculpting tools and support for up to eight players. The update also separates Normal and Peaceful difficulties from Survival and Creative modes. The recommendations below therefore treat Reforj as an evolving first-person voxel-building benchmark rather than a finished specification.

Reforj as the benchmark

Reforj’s appeal comes from combining first-person voxel construction with survival systems that are still expanding. Title Update 7 gives the current build a wider loop: gather resources, construct and sculpt a base, grow food, automate with circuits, travel with Magshell transportation, deal with mobs and choose how much danger to allow. Eight-player support makes the size and quality of a game’s co-op loop especially important.

There are four separate choices in Reforj’s current setup. Survival versus Creative changes whether resource pressure and danger are central. Normal versus Peaceful changes the difficulty context. Building is presented from a first-person viewpoint, where placing and shaping blocks is the primary activity rather than a side feature. Finally, the game’s development status matters: systems added in 2026 may continue to change as Pioneer feedback reaches the developers.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Use that baseline when comparing alternatives. A game can be “like Reforj” because it has voxels, because it supports survival crafting, because it offers co-op progression, or because it lets a group build a shared world. The four recommendations below match different interpretations of the request.

Quick comparison

Game Construction perspective and precision Survival and resource pressure Progression and combat Players and world structure Platforms and payment

Minecraft Three-dimensional block building with Creative and Survival play Survival includes resource gathering, crafting and hunger/thirst systems Broad sandbox progression rather than a single prescribed campaign Multiplayer, servers and a large modding ecosystem Edition, platform and price vary; not stated in the supplied information

1. Core Keeper: the closest co-op systems match

Core Keeper is the best first stop when “like Reforj” means a group progressing through gathering, construction, farming and exploration together. Its Steam listing describes a mining sandbox adventure for one to eight players, with mining, building, fighting, crafting and farming in an underground world. Procedural generation, online co-op, base building and survival are all part of its stated identity.

Why it matches Reforj’s loop

Both games make the base a practical center of progression rather than a purely decorative project. In Core Keeper, mining produces the materials needed to expand equipment and living space; farming supports the longer expedition loop; and exploration reveals new creatures, relics and resources. That creates a clear co-op rhythm: divide gathering jobs, return to a shared base, improve tools or facilities, then push farther into the generated world.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The one-to-eight-player range also lines up directly with Reforj’s current eight-player support. A small pair can play without needing a large server, while a full group can assign roles such as mining, farming, construction and combat. The game’s online co-op focus makes it a more natural substitute than a primarily solo sandbox if your main reason for considering Reforj is a shared survival project.

The important trade-off

Core Keeper is top-down and 2D. You do not place blocks from a first-person viewpoint or shape a three-dimensional structure with the same spatial precision as a voxel builder. The camera makes the underground layout easy to read and keeps group activity visible, but it changes the feeling of construction: you are arranging a compact overhead base rather than inhabiting a vertical 3D building site.

That difference is decisive for players who care about architectural technique, detailed three-dimensional façades or first-person scale. It is much less important if your favorite part of Reforj is the cooperative loop of extracting materials, improving a base, farming and returning to explore.

Who should choose it

  • Choose Core Keeper for a party of up to eight that wants shared progression instead of a purely creative building session.
  • Choose it when mining, farming and base logistics matter as much as combat.
  • Skip it if first-person voxel construction is non-negotiable.

Steam reported 94% positive English-language reviews from 23,872 reviews at access on 20 October 2026. That figure describes the listed English reviews at that time, not a permanent score or a guarantee that every player will prefer its 2D presentation.

2. Trove: a free-to-play voxel MMO

Trove is the strongest choice when the word “voxel” matters, but you want an online RPG structure rather than Reforj’s survival pressure. Its official FAQ calls it an open-ended voxel adventure through procedurally generated realms filled with quests, chests and enemies. Gathering and building sit alongside MMO-style progression, and the game offers more than a dozen classes, monsters, loot and mounts.

What makes Trove different

The game is organized around persistent character and social progression. Classes give you distinct ways to approach combat, while loot and mounts provide long-term rewards beyond the materials used to construct a base. Procedurally generated realms create a succession of places to visit rather than one survival map that your group gradually settles.

That structure is useful for players who want variety between building sessions. You can change class, pursue different loot or join friends in another realm without making the survival of a single settlement the central objective. Trove is also free-to-play, so the cost barrier is lower than a paid game, although the free-to-play model is part of the experience and should not be confused with a minimalist survival sandbox.

Where it falls short as a Reforj substitute

Trove’s emphasis is RPG and MMO progression, not demanding survival simulation. Gathering and construction are present, but hunger-style pressure, careful shelter planning and the escalating risk of a survival expedition are not the reason to choose it. If you want to feel vulnerable while securing food, materials and a defensible base, another recommendation fits better.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Its social scale is also different. Trove is designed around a persistent online community and multiple classes, whereas Reforj’s current headline is a dedicated group of up to eight players building and surviving together. A small private project may feel less central in Trove than in a co-op survival game.

Platforms and audience

The official FAQ lists Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, PC and Steam, and says the game is available in more than 200 countries and regions. That broad platform coverage makes it the practical pick when your group is split across console and PC families. Choose Trove for classes, loot, mounts, social realms and a free-to-play entry point; do not choose it expecting a direct replacement for Reforj’s survival systems.

3. Terraria: the 2D combat-heavy alternative

Terraria is the right recommendation when the part of Reforj you want to deepen is exploration and progression rather than three-dimensional construction. PC Gamer describes it as a survival-crafting sandbox with randomly generated worlds, resource gathering, crafting, caverns, monsters, non-player characters, building, solo play and co-op. GamesRadar emphasizes its combat, unique items, bosses and dungeons.

A longer progression arc

Terraria gives a playthrough a strong sense of escalation. Early gathering and shelter lead into deeper caverns, stronger equipment and increasingly demanding encounters. Bosses and dungeons provide explicit milestones, while unique items give exploration a concrete payoff. That makes the game feel more like an adventure campaign than an open-ended construction project.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a co-op group, the combat focus creates useful roles without requiring a formal class system: one player can build an arena or base, another can search for resources, and the group can prepare for a boss encounter. The world is randomly generated, so a new run changes the routes, underground spaces and available opportunities.

Construction is a different activity

Terraria is side-scrolling 2D, not a first-person voxel game. Building is still an important part of the sandbox, but the constraints and strengths are different. You work with a horizontal view, layered rooms and vertical shafts rather than freely shaping a three-dimensional structure from inside it. The result can be elaborate, yet the construction experience will not satisfy someone specifically seeking Reforj-style spatial building.

When Terraria is the better choice

  • Pick Terraria if bosses, dungeons, equipment upgrades and combat encounters are your main motivation.
  • Pick it if you want a substantial solo game that also supports co-op.
  • Pick it if a randomly generated world and a clear progression arc matter more than first-person construction.
  • Look elsewhere if your group wants eight-player support as the deciding feature; the supplied information confirms co-op but does not state an eight-player limit.

4. Minecraft: the broadest creative-survival reference

Minecraft remains the broadest comparison point because it supports both Creative and Survival play, multiplayer, extensive crafting and building, and a mature ecosystem of servers and mods. PC Gamer’s description also identifies hunger and thirst systems as part of its survival model.

Why it remains the flexible choice

Creative mode lets a builder work without ordinary survival constraints, while Survival turns resource gathering, crafting and maintaining supplies into the organizing loop. Multiplayer can be casual or highly structured, depending on how a group configures its world or server. The combination makes Minecraft suitable for players who are not sure whether they want architecture, exploration, survival or a mixture of all three.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The ecosystem is another major advantage. A mature modding and server culture offers more ways to alter rules, add content or specialize a world than a newer game can normally provide. That breadth is valuable when a group’s interests change over time: a creative build can become a survival challenge, or a private world can evolve into a larger multiplayer project.

Why it is not a one-to-one Reforj match

Minecraft is a broad sandbox rather than a focused answer to Reforj’s current feature set. The supplied information does not establish a specific player cap, platform edition or price for the version you might choose, so those details must be checked for the edition and device in question. It also does not share Reforj’s particular combination of Title Update 7 systems, including Magshell transportation and circuits.

Choose Minecraft when flexibility, modding, server variety and the ability to switch between Creative and Survival are more important than matching Reforj’s exact development direction. Choose another game when you want a clearly defined eight-player co-op loop or a combat campaign with explicit bosses.

How the alternatives compare on the decisions that matter

Construction perspective and precision

Reforj is the only option in this group explicitly framed around first-person voxel construction. Trove keeps the voxel idea but places it inside an MMO/RPG structure. Minecraft offers three-dimensional block building and is the closest established creative-survival reference, although the supplied information does not describe a specific Reforj-style sculpting workflow. Core Keeper’s top-down 2D view favors readable base layouts and resource logistics. Terraria’s side-scrolling 2D view favors layered rooms, tunnels and combat arenas.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the deciding test is “Can I stand inside the structure I am building and shape it in first person?”, start with Reforj or Minecraft. If the test is “Can my group improve a shared home while progressing underground?”, Core Keeper is the more direct fit. If building is a supporting activity for combat or MMO play, Terraria or Trove may be more satisfying.

Survival intensity and resource pressure

Reforj exposes this choice through Survival and Creative modes and through Normal and Peaceful difficulties. Core Keeper keeps resource extraction, farming and base development central to its loop. Terraria combines survival-crafting elements with a stronger focus on hostile encounters and equipment progression. Minecraft gives the player the broadest ability to choose how much pressure to retain through mode and world decisions. Trove is the outlier: it includes gathering and building, but its defining pressure comes from RPG activity, enemies and rewards rather than a demanding survival simulation.

Progression and combat

Terraria is the clearest combat-first recommendation because bosses, dungeons and unique items define its long arc. Trove offers class variety, monsters, loot and mounts, making character identity and persistent rewards central. Core Keeper ties combat and exploration to the steady expansion of an underground base. Minecraft and Reforj are more open-ended in the supplied descriptions, with progression emerging from the systems a group chooses to use rather than from a listed boss sequence.

Player scale and co-op style

Reforj Title Update 7 supports eight players. Core Keeper explicitly supports one to eight players online, making it the cleanest numerical match. Trove is built as a social MMO across many platforms and regions, but the supplied information does not state a comparable small-party cap. Terraria supports solo and co-op play without a player limit stated here. Minecraft supports multiplayer, but no specific cap is established in the supplied information.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

World structure and replayability

Core Keeper uses a procedurally generated underground world. Trove sends players through procedurally generated realms. Terraria creates randomly generated worlds with caverns, dungeons and bosses. Minecraft provides open-ended worlds, multiplayer and a large modding/server ecosystem. Reforj’s current feature set is still being shaped, so its long-term world structure may change as Pioneer feedback is incorporated.

Choose by player priority

You want the closest eight-player co-op loop

Choose Core Keeper. The one-to-eight-player listing, online co-op, mining, farming, base building and procedural underground world align most directly with a group that wants to progress together. Accept the top-down 2D presentation as the price of that systems match.

You want free voxel play with classes and social rewards

Choose Trove. Its free-to-play model, cross-platform availability across Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, PC and Steam, more than a dozen classes, loot and mounts make it the strongest MMO-oriented option. Do not expect survival pressure to be the main source of tension.

You want bosses and a long combat campaign

Choose Terraria. Its random worlds, caves, NPCs, unique items, bosses and dungeons supply the most explicit adventure progression in this list. The compromise is side-scrolling 2D construction.

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

You want the largest creative-survival sandbox

Choose Minecraft. Its Creative and Survival modes, multiplayer, crafting, building, hunger/thirst systems and mature modding and server ecosystem provide the widest range of possible play styles. It is the best general-purpose choice, not a precise reproduction of Reforj’s current systems.

You specifically want Reforj’s first-person voxel direction

Stay with Reforj and follow its Pioneer playtest path. Title Update 7 shows that its design is actively expanding through mobs, farming, circuits, Magshell transportation, sculpting tools and eight-player support. Because 4J Studios says feedback will directly impact development, the current build should be judged as an evolving project rather than a fixed feature list.

A practical decision checklist

  1. Decide whether the camera is essential. First-person 3D construction points to Reforj or Minecraft; top-down points to Core Keeper; side-scrolling points to Terraria.
  2. Set the group size. A party that needs an explicitly supported eight-player session should shortlist Reforj and Core Keeper first.
  3. Choose the source of progression. Select Terraria for bosses and dungeons, Trove for classes and loot, Core Keeper for mining and base expansion, or Minecraft for self-directed projects.
  4. Choose the desired pressure. Survival-focused players should prioritize Reforj, Core Keeper or Minecraft Survival; players who want lower survival pressure and more social RPG activity should consider Trove.
  5. Check the group’s hardware mix. Trove’s listed Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, PC and Steam coverage is the broadest explicit platform range in this comparison. Platform and edition details for the other games should be confirmed for your devices before purchase.
