Sender is the strongest fit if you need the most monthly email volume among these three free plans; MailerLite suits a small list with a modest sending need; and Brevo suits a large stored contact list when 300 emails a day is enough. There is no single best option for every list. Compare the audience limit, whether the sending cap is daily or monthly, automation eligibility, and practical constraints such as branding and seats.
Free autoresponder plans at a glance
| Tool | Free audience or contact limit | Free sending allowance | Automation and other constraints |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sender | Up to 2,500 subscribers | Up to 15,000 emails per month | Email automation with unlimited triggers and steps; one seat; Sender branding is included. Figures are from Sender’s plan page, checked in 2026. |
| MailerLite | Up to 250 active subscribers | 2,500 emails per month | Up to three active automations and two seats. Campaign and automation emails count toward the sending cap; sending locks if the active-subscriber limit is exceeded. Limits are from MailerLite’s 2026 plan information. |
| Brevo | Store up to 100,000 contacts | 300 emails per day; unused daily sends do not carry over | Multi-channel automation for up to 2,000 contacts; one seat. Brevo’s storage limit is not a sending allowance. Figures are from Brevo’s help information, checked in 2026. |

Which free autoresponder fits your needs?
Choose Sender for a higher monthly email allowance
Sender advertises up to 15,000 emails per month for up to 2,500 subscribers, making it the highest published monthly sending allowance in this comparison. Its free plan includes automation, but also includes Sender branding and allows one seat. Confirm those constraints fit your workflow before committing.
Choose MailerLite for a small list and a few automated journeys
MailerLite’s free plan allows up to 250 active subscribers and 2,500 emails per month. Its current comparison page lists up to three active automations, with up to five steps shown. That can suit a small list that needs a limited set of journeys, but the low subscriber ceiling matters: MailerLite says sending locks when the active-subscriber limit is exceeded.
#1 Best Overall
Choose Brevo when you need contact storage more than high-volume sending
Brevo allows storage of up to 100,000 contacts, but the Free plan allows 300 sends per day, with no rollover of unused daily sends. Multi-channel automation is available for up to 2,000 contacts. The large storage ceiling does not mean you can email all those contacts at once or send 100,000 messages per month.

MailerLite says its Free plan changed on June 16, 2026. The active-subscriber cap fell from 500 to 250, and the monthly sending allowance fell from 12,000 to 2,500 emails. The plan also expanded some features and increased the account-seat allowance to two. Its current pricing information lists the revised 250-subscriber and 2,500-email limits, along with up to three active automations. Pages that still cite the former 500-subscriber or 12,000-email limits do not describe the current plan.

Check these details before you sign up
- How contacts are counted: Distinguish active subscribers from contacts stored in an account. MailerLite’s limit is for active subscribers, while Brevo’s 100,000 figure is a storage ceiling.
- How sending is counted: Keep daily limits separate from monthly limits. Brevo’s 300 sends reset daily and do not roll over; MailerLite counts campaign and automation emails toward its monthly allowance.
- What happens at the audience cap: MailerLite says sending locks when the active-subscriber cap is exceeded. Check the other provider’s current rules for what happens if your audience grows past its free limit.
- What “automation included” means: Compare workflow counts, step limits, and eligible contacts—not just whether the word automation appears on the plan page. Sender advertises unlimited triggers and steps; MailerLite caps active automations; Brevo caps the contacts eligible for multi-channel automation.
- Operational restrictions: Check branding, seats, and any integrations your team needs. Sender includes branding and one seat; MailerLite lists two seats; Brevo includes one seat.
