Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If you want a DAW you can keep using without paying, start with LMMS or Tracktion’s Waveform Free 14. If you are open to paying, REAPER offers a 60-day evaluation and eligibility-based discounted license; Ableton Live 12 Intro is a paid entry edition. A trial is not the same as a permanent free version, and none of these options can be called a feature-for-feature FL Studio replacement on the evidence available here.
Which FL Studio alternative fits your budget?
“Free” can mean software that remains usable at no cost or a temporary trial that eventually expires. Use the first column to narrow your choice, then compare the included tools and licensing terms before installing.

LMMS: choose it for a straightforward no-cost starting point
LMMS’s official download page says downloading and using the software is free. That makes it the clearest fit if your main requirement is to keep making music without a recurring purchase or trial deadline. The available official information does not establish feature parity with FL Studio, so check LMMS’s own documentation against the instruments and workflow you rely on before switching projects.

Low-cost paid options and trials
REAPER: evaluate first, then check which license applies
Cockos offers a 60-day full-function evaluation. Its purchase page lists a $60 discounted license and a $225 commercial license. The discounted license applies to specified users: individuals using REAPER personally, educational or non-profit organizations, and qualifying commercial users whose yearly gross revenue does not exceed USD 20,000. The same page lists Standard at USD 349 and Suite at USD 749; Standard and Suite have unlimited audio/MIDI tracks in the listed feature table. These are displayed shop prices, not guaranteed future prices or worldwide totals.

- Need permanent free use? Compare LMMS and Waveform Free 14, then verify that the workflow and tools you depend on are available in the specific product.
- Want time to evaluate before paying? REAPER provides a 60-day full-function evaluation. Ableton Suite and Bitwig Studio each advertise 30-day trials, but those temporary evaluations have different terms and are not equivalent to a free edition.
- Need a particular operating system? REAPER’s official download page lists Windows, macOS and Linux. Check the other publishers’ current requirements directly rather than assuming platform support.
- Expect to expand later? Tracktion lists feature expansions from $30. Compare the particular expansion you need with your budget; that starting price does not establish the cost of every add-on.
- Switching existing projects? Check the target DAW’s current documentation for the instruments, effects, file formats and workflow you use. The published figures here do not establish that an FL Studio project will transfer intact or that any option is an exact replacement.
