Before buying, verify the exact model and carrier compatibility, who refurbished it, the battery condition, the warranty and return terms, and how long it will receive security updates. “Refurbished” alone does not tell you who inspected the phone or what was replaced. Samsung and Google publish specific promises for their own certified-refurbished programs, but those promises do not automatically apply to third-party listings.
Start with the exact phone and seller
Get the full model name, storage capacity, region or carrier variant, cosmetic condition grade, and seller identity—not just “Galaxy” or “Pixel.” Confirm with your carrier that the model supports its network and that the phone can be activated on your account. A phone that looks like a bargain may be the wrong configuration for your service or needs.

- Ask who refurbished the phone and what inspection or functional tests were performed.
- Ask which parts, if any, were replaced, and whether replacements are genuine manufacturer parts.
- Check what is included in the box and compare the total delivered cost, not only the headline discount.
Do not infer current stock or pricing from a manufacturer’s program description; availability and prices depend on market, model, and date.
Check the battery and refurbishment standard
Battery condition is especially important because a low price does not reveal remaining battery capacity. For a third-party listing, ask for the battery-health reading or replacement history in writing, and clarify what remedy is available if the battery performs poorly.
#1 Best Overall
- It offers a 6.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive 48-120 Hz refresh rate plus up to ~ 1750 nits peak brightness and “Vision Booster,” meaning the screen stays bright and viewable even in strong sunlight — great if you use your phone outdoors a lot.
Samsung Certified Re-Newed in the US
Samsung’s US Certified Re-Newed program says each phone receives a certified new battery, genuine Samsung parts, cleaning and inspection by Samsung technicians, the latest software, and a new IMEI number. Samsung also says the phones are tested against 147 quality checkpoints. The page lists a quick-start guide, data cable, and ejector pin among package contents. These are program-specific claims, not a standard for other sellers or other markets. See Samsung’s US Certified Re-Newed terms.
Google Certified Refurbished Pixel in the US
Google Store says it uses genuine Google parts if a screen or battery replacement is needed during refurbishment. That is not a promise that every refurbished Pixel receives a new battery. The Store also says refurbished phones are updated to current Pixel software. Review Google’s Certified Refurbished Pixel details.

If the offer is from a marketplace or independent refurbisher, do not assume either manufacturer’s process applies. Get the seller’s testing, parts, and battery disclosures before paying.
Read warranty and return terms before payment
Warranty length and coverage depend on the seller and country. The official program terms cited here differ by market, so check the terms for the actual listing and purchase location.

A warranty duration is not the whole policy: check covered defects, exclusions, who handles claims, repair or shipping costs, and any registration requirements. Separately, read the return window and conditions, including who pays return shipping and whether activation or use affects eligibility.
Find out how much software support remains
A phone’s age or discount is less useful than its model-specific support timeline. Google says Certified Refurbished Pixels share the stated “up to seven years of support” commitment with new Pixel owners. “Up to” does not mean every refurbished model has seven years left from the date you buy it; verify the support end date for the exact model. Google’s refurbished Pixel page describes the program, while Google’s Pixel update policy is relevant to checking model-specific updates.

- The Galaxy S21 FE sports a sleek polycarbonate back with a premium matte finish that resists fingerprints and feels smooth in hand, giving it a stylish yet practical design.
Samsung’s cited US Certified Re-Newed page says the phones receive the latest software, but it does not state one support duration for every model. Check Samsung’s support information for the exact Galaxy model before comparing it with a Pixel or another Galaxy.

Confirm the phone can be activated and used
Before purchase, ask the seller or carrier how to verify the device status for your country. Check that it is not reported lost or stolen, carrier-locked, account-locked, or tied to unpaid financing. There is no single universal IMEI or financing lookup established for every country and carrier, so use the relevant carrier or official local check and get the seller’s assurance in writing. Confirm the listing permits a reset and activation; avoid a phone you cannot test or return if setup fails.

Compare the full offer, not the discount
Compare listings only after matching the model, storage, carrier compatibility, refurbishment standard, battery disclosure, warranty, return period, cosmetic grade, included accessories, and total delivered price. If a seller will not identify the model or explain battery and warranty terms, treat that uncertainty as part of the cost—not as a detail to resolve after payment.
