The right electric stapler depends on the packets you handle, the staples it accepts, and where you need to use it. For routine desk work, look at models rated around 20 sheets; for thicker packets, choose a model whose higher capacity is explicitly tied to a compatible staple or cartridge. If you need to move between desks, a battery-capable model offers more placement flexibility.
The specifications below come from manufacturers, not independent comparative testing. Treat capacities as stated maximums, check the staple or cartridge required, and leave headroom above your usual packet size.

How to choose the right capacity
Routine packets: around 20 sheets
For a fixed desk that handles ordinary paperwork, the Swingline Commercial and Bostitch Impulse 20 Executive are documented examples rated up to 20 sheets. Capacity alone does not distinguish them: the Swingline specifies S.F. 4 staples and adds a front-loading magazine and adjustable depth guide, while Bostitch lists 45- or 90-degree stapling.
Thicker packets: check the staple behind the rating
The Optima 60 illustrates why a capacity figure must travel with its staple requirement: its rating is up to 60 sheets with Optima High-Capacity staples, but up to 25 with S.F. 4 staples. If your work routinely involves more than a standard packet, compare the exact staple type or cartridge required before choosing a model. The Rapid pages provide 60- and 90-sheet model ratings, respectively, and direct buyers to check their current details for cartridge and operating requirements.
#1 Best Overall
- 3X FASTER STAPLING: Impulse Drive Technology lets you remove your paper stack immediately after the stapler fires—no waiting for the mechanism to retract
- STAPLES UP TO 30 SHEETS AUTOMATICALLY: Electric stapling power easily secures up to 30 sheets at once, ideal for reports, presentations, and everyday office paperwork.
- ZERO JAMS: No-Jam Technology engineered by Bostitch eliminates the frustrating staple jams that slow down high-volume stapling
- ONE-BUTTON RELOAD: FASTLOAD Push-button magazine release ejects the staple tray instantly for fast, no-fuss reloading
- LOW-STAPLE ALERT: Built-in refill indicator light lets you know when staples are running low before you run out mid-stack
Frequent desk use: consider refill workflow
For a busy shared desk, reloading design and refill alerts may matter as much as the maximum sheet count. Swingline describes QuickLoad front-loading on the Commercial and Optima 60 models; Bostitch lists a refill alert on the Impulse 45. Confirm consumable availability and compatibility before ordering refills.
Moving between work areas: consider power flexibility
If the stapler cannot stay beside an outlet, the cited Bostitch battery-operated model can run on four AA batteries or its included AC adapter. Its stated 2–20-sheet capacity makes it an option for flexible placement within that workload range.
Rank #2

Check these details before buying
- Capacity and paper basis: Compare your normal packet size with the stated maximum and note the paper basis where supplied. Swingline Commercial specifies up to 20 sheets of 20 lb paper; do not assume ratings are directly comparable when staple types or testing conditions differ.
- Staple or cartridge compatibility: The cited Swingline models use S.F. 4 or Optima High-Capacity staples depending on model and capacity. Bostitch identifies B8 PowerCrown staples for the Impulse 45 pack. Rapid’s cited products use recommended Rapid staples and a cartridge workflow; consult the current model page for the specific cartridge.
- Positioning and stability: An adjustable depth guide can help place staples consistently. Features such as suction-cup or rubber feet are model-specific; verify them on the exact product page rather than assuming every electric stapler includes them.
- Warranty terms: Coverage varies by model and conditions. The examples above include Swingline’s listed 90-day limited term for Commercial and seven-year limited term for Optima 60; Bostitch states seven years for Impulse Drive electric staplers; Rapid states two years when used with recommended staples. Confirm current terms for the exact product.
Are these the “best” electric staplers?
There is no evidence here for an independent performance ranking or controlled comparison. These models are useful workload-based examples because their manufacturers publish capacity, power, refill, or warranty details. A high sheet rating is not by itself proof of better overall performance: staple compatibility, packet positioning, refill method, and where the stapler will sit all affect whether it fits an office’s routine.
