If your main account is Bithumb, CoinTracking has the clearest exchange-specific documentation because it publishes a Bithumb CSV workflow. CoinTracker is a practical option for portfolios spread across exchanges, self-custody wallets and DeFi, but its published country table does not establish South Korea-specific tax forms.
None of these recommendations is universal. Your result depends on the exact exchange, whether every deposit and withdrawal can be matched, how staking or airdrops are classified, and whether a Korean tax professional can review the final report. Verify the current integration directory, transaction limits, support terms and report formats before paying.

What Korean crypto investors need to prepare for
Korea’s tax timetable is the first filter when choosing software. The National Tax Service (NTS) says the National Assembly passed an amendment to the Income Tax Act in December 2024 that postponed implementation of virtual-asset income taxation by two years: “국회에서 소득세법 개정안이 통과(’24.12.)되어 가상자산소득 과세 시행이 2년 유예 되었음을 알려드립니다.”

Registered virtual-asset businesses must also submit transaction statements and aggregate reports for transactions from that date. The delayed start does not make earlier records irrelevant. A complete history is needed to establish acquisition cost, identify transfers between your own wallets, and explain balances when a future filing period begins.
#1 Best Overall
The practical implication is straightforward: choose software that can preserve raw exchange exports, reconcile wallet movements and produce an audit trail. Treat any “Korean tax report” claim cautiously unless the provider identifies the exact Korean form, tax year and assumptions it supports. The cited product material documents calculation and reporting features, but it does not establish that any of the three tools generates a completed Korean filing form.
Quick comparison
| Software | What is documented | Best fit | Important limitation for Korea |
|---|---|---|---|
| Koinly | South Korea is listed among supported countries; API auto-sync where available; CSV/Excel upload; FIFO, LIFO, HIFO or average-cost choices where applicable; complete, itemized, asset-summary and wallet-balance reports | Several exchanges and wallets requiring broad reconciliation | The cited pages do not prove an API connection for every Korean exchange or a Korea-specific filing form |
| CoinTracking | Dedicated Bithumb guide: export Bithumb history as CSV, upload it, combine sources, calculate gains and losses, and generate a tax report | Bithumb users comfortable with CSV review and manual corrections | The strongest evidence is for Bithumb CSV, not universal Korean-exchange API coverage |
| CoinTracker | API or sign-in sync, CSV, public-address or xPub import, and WalletConnect; recommends CSV when a direct exchange integration is unavailable; general reports for users in countries without a specific form | Mixed exchange, wallet and DeFi portfolios needing several import methods | Its cited country table does not establish South Korea-specific forms |
There is no independent head-to-head accuracy study, current price comparison, or verified direct Upbit API test in the available evidence. Prices, transaction caps, support response times and live exchange coverage must therefore be checked on each provider’s purchase and integration pages immediately before subscribing.
How to choose software for a Korean exchange account
1. Confirm the exact ingestion method
“Supports an exchange” can mean a live API, a downloadable CSV, or merely a generic transaction template. Ask which method is available for your account and region. API synchronization is convenient, but a CSV export is often more transparent because you can retain the original file and compare imported rows with the exchange statement.
Check whether the connector imports deposits, withdrawals, trades, fees, staking distributions, airdrops, conversions and fiat purchases. A connector that imports trades but omits withdrawals can make your holdings appear duplicated. A connector that imports a fee without its associated transaction can distort both cost basis and proceeds.
2. Test completeness before buying a higher tier
Use a small historical export first. Compare the exchange’s total deposits, withdrawals and trade count with the software’s imported totals. Then inspect several months that include different activity types. Do not rely on a green “sync complete” message; completion means files were read, not that every row was classified correctly.

3. Look for editable assumptions and an audit trail
Cost-basis treatment can materially change gains. Koinly documents FIFO, LIFO, HIFO and average-cost choices where applicable. Whichever method you use, record why it was selected and keep a copy of the report and source files. You should be able to open an individual transaction, see its linked acquisition or disposal, correct a label, and regenerate the report without losing the original data.
4. Prioritize reports a professional can inspect
A useful package contains both summaries and detail: realized gains and losses, income-type activity, itemized transactions, asset summaries and wallet balances. A Korean tax professional needs the underlying rows, not only a single number. Exportable files are especially important when a provider does not offer a Korea-specific form.

5. Treat support and pricing as live facts
Subscription prices, transaction limits, included wallets and support channels change. Confirm the current tier required for your transaction count, whether historical years are included, and whether API refreshes continue after a plan ends. Ask support how they handle Korean exchange CSV columns, KRW valuation, missing market prices and transfers between accounts you own.
Koinly: strongest documented general starting point
What Koinly documents
Koinly explicitly lists South Korea among its supported countries. Its import documentation describes automatic API synchronization when a supported connection exists and CSV or Excel upload when it does not. Its report documentation describes a complete report with summarized and itemized activity, along with asset-summary and wallet-balance reports.
The cost-calculation settings include FIFO, LIFO, HIFO or average cost where applicable. That breadth is useful when you need to model an assumption and then discuss it with an adviser, although the selected method should not be treated as a substitute for Korean tax advice.
When Koinly is a good fit
- You use more than one exchange and at least one self-custody wallet.
- You need a single workspace to match transfers and inspect wallet balances.
- You want both a high-level summary and transaction-level exports.
- You prefer API sync where available but can fall back to CSV or Excel.
Koinly’s Korea-specific limits
Listing South Korea as a supported country does not prove that your particular exchange has a direct API connector. The cited documentation also does not prove production of a Korean filing form. Before subscribing, search the live integration directory for your exchange and test a representative export. If your account is on an exchange not listed, plan on a CSV workflow and manual review.
CoinTracking: clearest Bithumb workflow
What the Bithumb guide covers
CoinTracking publishes a dedicated Bithumb instruction path: export your Bithumb transaction history as a CSV, upload it, combine the data with other exchanges and wallets, calculate gains and losses, and generate a tax report. This exchange-specific documentation is the strongest direct evidence in the comparison for a Korean platform.
Why Bithumb users may prefer it
A documented CSV process gives you a repeatable record. Save the untouched Bithumb export, note the date range and account used, and retain the imported copy after any corrections. That chain makes it easier for an accountant to trace a reported disposal back to an exchange row.
What still requires checking
The Bithumb guide does not establish universal API support for Korean exchanges, nor does it establish a Korean filing form. Confirm how the current importer labels staking, airdrops, fees and internal transfers. If you also use another exchange or a hardware wallet, test those sources separately rather than assuming the Bithumb workflow covers them.
CoinTracker: flexible for mixed wallets and exchanges
Available import routes
CoinTracker documents automatic API or sign-in synchronization, direct CSV import, public-address or xPub import and WalletConnect. It recommends CSV when an exchange is not available as a direct integration. Public-address imports can help with blockchain visibility, while WalletConnect can connect compatible decentralized-application activity; neither route automatically proves that an exchange’s off-chain records or fiat fees are complete.

Country and report limitations
CoinTracker says it calculates tax reports for more than 100 countries. Its country-support information distinguishes country-specific forms from general transaction and gains reports. Users in an unlisted country can still download those general reports, but the cited country table does not establish South Korea-specific forms.
When it makes sense
- You need several ingestion methods in one account.
- Your portfolio includes public blockchain addresses as well as centralized exchanges.
- An exchange lacks a direct connector and you are prepared to maintain CSV imports.
- You want general gains and transaction reports for review by a Korean professional.
What is the best software for Upbit or Bithumb?
Upbit users
No direct Upbit API verification is established in the available evidence. Start by checking each provider’s current integration directory and downloading a complete Upbit history. If only CSV is available, verify that the export includes deposits, withdrawals, fees and all trade types. Import a limited date range, compare counts and balances, then expand to the full history.
Bithumb users
CoinTracking has the most directly documented Bithumb path because it explains the CSV export and upload workflow. Koinly or CoinTracker may still be suitable if their current connectors accept your Bithumb data and your portfolio needs their wallet or reporting features. The deciding test is not the brand name; it is whether every Bithumb row is imported and classified in a way your adviser accepts.
Users of several Korean exchanges
Koinly’s country listing and multi-source report structure make it a logical first trial for a portfolio spread across exchanges and wallets. CoinTracker is an alternative when public-address, xPub or WalletConnect imports are important. CoinTracking can work well when you are comfortable exporting and reconciling CSV files from each source.
Step-by-step workflow for a defensible crypto tax file
- Inventory every source. List each Korean exchange, overseas exchange, brokerage account, hardware wallet, software wallet, staking service and decentralized application used since your first transaction.
- Export original records. Download full-date-range trade, deposit, withdrawal, fee, staking and reward histories from each exchange. Keep the original filenames and do not edit these files.
- Collect wallet evidence. Record public addresses and export wallet transaction histories where possible. A public-address import does not replace exchange statements for off-chain activity.
- Choose an importer. Use Koinly for a broad multi-wallet trial, CoinTracking for the documented Bithumb CSV process, or CoinTracker when you need API, CSV, address and WalletConnect routes. Confirm the exact connector first.
- Import one source at a time. Label each wallet and exchange clearly. This makes duplicate deposits and withdrawals easier to spot.
- Match internal transfers. Link withdrawals from one wallet to deposits in another. Do not treat a transfer between accounts you own as a disposal unless the applicable tax treatment says otherwise.
- Review classifications. Inspect trades, fees, staking, airdrops, gifts, loans, liquidity activity and conversions. Correct labels only after checking the original statement.
- Check balances. Compare software wallet balances with exchange and blockchain balances at several dates, including year-end. Large unexplained differences usually indicate a missing import, duplicate row or unmatched transfer.
- Select and document the cost method. If the software offers FIFO, LIFO, HIFO or average cost, record the selected method, tax year and reason. Do not switch methods casually after reviewing gains.
- Generate reports and preserve evidence. Save itemized transactions, gains and losses, income-related activity, asset summaries, wallet balances and the original exports in a read-only archive.
- Have a Korean professional review exceptions. Give the reviewer the exception list, not just the headline gain. Ask specifically about KRW valuation, staking and airdrop income, loans, gifts, DeFi and transfers involving accounts you control.
Common failure modes and fixes
Only trades appear
Symptom: The transaction count looks plausible, but deposits, withdrawals or fees are absent. Fix: Download the exchange’s separate funding and fee files, import them using the provider’s documented template, and reconcile balances again.

Every withdrawal looks like a sale
Symptom: Moving coins to your own wallet creates artificial gains. Fix: Add both wallets, match the outgoing and incoming records, and verify timestamps, quantities and network fees.
Duplicate transactions inflate volume
Symptom: An API sync and a CSV upload both contain the same trades. Fix: Keep one canonical import for each source, identify duplicate transaction IDs or timestamps, and rerun the totals.
Fees are detached or missing
Symptom: The fee appears as a separate disposal or is not reflected in cost. Fix: Compare several fee rows with the exchange statement and apply the provider’s documented fee-mapping method consistently.

Symptom: Rewards are treated as ordinary trades or ignored. Fix: Preserve the receipt date, asset quantity, KRW value evidence and source statement, then ask a Korean adviser for the appropriate income classification.
KRW values cannot be explained
Symptom: The report uses a market price that differs from your records. Fix: Export the pricing detail if available, note the valuation time zone and exchange rate source, and give the discrepancy to your reviewer rather than overwriting it without documentation.
Preparing for Korea’s 2027 reporting regime
Use the period before 2027 to build a clean ledger rather than waiting for the first filing deadline. Reconcile each exchange to year-end balances, preserve the raw exports, and maintain a change log for corrections. The NTS rule described above applies to virtual-asset transfers or lending from 2027-01-01, while registered businesses must submit transaction statements and aggregate reports for transactions from that date.
Ask an adviser how the rules apply to your specific activity, especially lending, staking, gifts, business receipts and decentralized-finance transactions. Software can calculate from the data you provide; it cannot decide a disputed Korean legal classification for you.
Questions to ask before subscribing
- Is my exact Korean exchange supported by API, CSV, or both?
- Can the importer handle KRW trades, deposits, withdrawals, fees, staking, airdrops and internal transfers?
- Can I export itemized rows as well as gains, asset summaries and wallet balances?
- Can I change or document FIFO, LIFO, HIFO or average-cost assumptions where applicable?
- What transaction limit and historical-year access does the current plan include?
- How does support handle a malformed Korean exchange CSV?
- Does the product provide a Korean filing form, or only general reports for an accountant?
Bottom line
Start with Koinly if you want the broadest documented country and reporting coverage and your portfolio spans several wallets. Choose CoinTracking first when Bithumb CSV handling and hands-on reconciliation are central. Consider CoinTracker when your data is split among exchanges, public addresses, xPub sources and WalletConnect-compatible activity. In every case, test a complete export, reconcile balances and have the final assumptions reviewed by a Korean tax professional before relying on the report for 2027 compliance.
