1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor a single Intel Arc Pro B70, the strongest evidence-backed platform is Intel’s own 2026 test configuration: a Core Ultra 9 285K, a Z890 motherboard, and 64GB (2x32GB) of DDR5-6400 with XMP and Resizable BAR enabled. Use a full-length PCIe x16 slot and a power supply rated at least 600W with the required 6-pin PCIe connector. For two B70 cards, choose a Z890 workstation board with two CPU-connected PCIe 5.0 x16 slots that can operate at x8/x8; the ASUS ProArt Z890-Creator WiFi meets those expansion requirements and accepts up to 192GB of DDR5.
What the Arc Pro B70 platform has to support
The Arc Pro B70 is a workstation GPU rather than a conventional gaming-card upgrade. Intel lists 32GB of GDDR6 on a 256-bit interface, 608GB/s of memory bandwidth, 32 Xe-cores, 256 XMX engines and a peak rating of 367 TOPS. Its native connection is PCIe Gen 5 x16, and Intel specifies a total board-power range of 160W to 290W depending on the card and operating condition.

Those specifications matter when choosing the rest of the system. The processor must keep data moving without consuming the entire cooling or power budget, the motherboard must provide a genuine full-length slot with Resizable BAR support, and system memory must be large enough that the CPU does not become a bottleneck when scenes, datasets or virtual machines spill beyond GPU memory.
| Arc Pro B70 characteristic | Published value | Build implication |
|---|---|---|
| Graphics memory | 32GB GDDR6 | Large models and scenes can remain resident on the card, but system RAM is still needed for staging, preprocessing and applications. |
| Memory interface | 256-bit | Use a platform with stable PCIe and memory operation rather than chasing an unvalidated overclock. |
| Memory bandwidth | 608GB/s | CPU and storage should be configured so they do not starve data preparation workloads. |
| Compute resources | 32 Xe-cores, 256 XMX engines | Workstation drivers and application support are as important as raw hardware compatibility. |
| Peak compute rating | 367 TOPS | Useful for AI-oriented workloads, subject to software support and precision mode. |
| Host interface | PCIe Gen 5 x16 native | Install the card in a full-size x16 slot; Intel permits PCIe 3.0 or newer. |
| Total board power | 160W–290W | Leave electrical and thermal headroom beyond the graphics card’s nominal requirement. |
Intel announced retail availability for March 25, 2026, with partner cards from ARKN, ASRock, Gunnir, Maxsun and Sparkle. Exact board dimensions, cooler thickness and auxiliary-power arrangements vary by partner model, so the card’s own specification sheet must be checked before selecting a case or power cable.

The best single-B70 CPU: Core Ultra 9 285K
The Core Ultra 9 285K is the safest high-end recommendation because Intel used it in the published Arc Pro B70 benchmark platform. That is an evidence-backed pairing, not merely a theoretical compatibility list. It gives a workstation buyer a known starting point for multicore rendering, compilation, data preparation and GPU-assisted applications while retaining the Z890 platform’s PCIe and DDR5 features.
Intel’s reference system paired the processor with an ASUS ROG Maximus Z890 HERO, 64GB of memory, an 850W power supply and Resizable BAR enabled. Reproducing the exact motherboard is not required; the important characteristics are the Z890 chipset, a full-length slot, current firmware and proper BAR configuration.
When a lower-cost Core Ultra processor makes sense
A less expensive Core Ultra model can be reasonable when the workload is demonstrably GPU-bound and the machine will not spend significant time compiling, encoding, simulating or preparing large datasets on the CPU. That is a purchasing judgment, not a published Intel equivalence claim for the B70. Choose the lower tier only after identifying the CPU-heavy parts of the workflow and checking its memory-controller and lane capabilities.

| Workload pattern | CPU approach | Why |
|---|---|---|
| GPU rendering, occasional scene preparation | Core Ultra 9 285K baseline, or a lower Core Ultra after workload review | The GPU performs most of the sustained work, but the baseline avoids an untested platform combination. |
| Large compilations, CPU rendering, simulation and GPU work together | Core Ultra 9 285K | Higher sustained multicore capacity reduces contention between host and accelerator tasks. |
| Several virtual machines plus GPU compute | Core Ultra 9 285K with 128GB or more system RAM | Both CPU threads and memory capacity become constraints before the B70 does. |
| Cost-sensitive single-purpose GPU appliance | Lower Core Ultra model only after validating the application | Save money where the software profile proves the CPU is not limiting throughput. |
Motherboard requirements for one B70
Intel’s desktop guide calls for a “Full-size PCI Express 3.0 or newer x16 slot.” The B70’s native Gen 5 interface does not mean a Gen 5 motherboard is mandatory for basic operation; a compliant PCIe 3.0-or-newer x16 slot meets the stated minimum. A Z890 board is the most direct match for the Core Ultra 9 285K and gives access to current DDR5 and PCIe connectivity.
Features to verify before buying
- Mechanical slot size: The graphics card must fit a full-length x16 connector, not a short physical slot wired for fewer lanes.
- Electrical wiring: Confirm that the primary slot receives the CPU’s intended lanes. Some boards share lanes with M.2 sockets or other expansion slots.
- Resizable BAR: The firmware must expose the setting, and it should remain enabled along with the required decoding options.
- Slot clearance: Check the B70 partner card’s thickness against adjacent slots, M.2 heatsinks and the case’s expansion-slot covers.
- Firmware support: Use a BIOS that lists the installed Core Ultra processor and current PCIe-device compatibility. Check the manufacturer’s support page immediately before assembly.
- Memory QVL: Select a DDR5 kit listed for the board and processor, especially when using four DIMMs or capacities above 64GB.
For a single card, the board does not need two x16 slots, but extra expansion room can be valuable for high-speed storage, capture hardware or a second accelerator later. Avoid paying for a slot layout that the case cannot physically accommodate.

Best dual-B70 motherboard option: ASUS ProArt Z890-Creator WiFi
The ASUS ProArt Z890-Creator WiFi is a concrete option for a two-card workstation because it provides two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots that can operate at x16 or x8/x8. That bifurcation is the key requirement: with two cards installed, each receives eight PCIe 5.0 lanes rather than one card losing access to the CPU-connected slot.
The board has four DIMM slots and supports up to 192GB of DDR5 in a dual-channel configuration. Capacity is therefore sufficient for a 128GB or 192GB host-memory build, provided the selected modules and processor memory controller are validated for the desired speed.
Checks before committing to a two-card build
- Read the current board manual and slot-bifurcation table. Confirm that the two full-length slots are the intended CPU-connected paths and that x8/x8 is available with the processor you plan to use.
- Measure both graphics cards, including power plugs and cable bend radius. Two-slot cards can still collide when their coolers, backplates or connectors extend beyond the nominal bracket.
- Verify case support for the motherboard’s slot spacing and for the combined card thickness. A full tower may be necessary for unobstructed intake airflow.
- Check which M.2 sockets or secondary slots are disabled when both x16 positions are populated. Lane sharing can change storage choices.
- Update the BIOS before deploying production workloads and test both cards under sustained load, not only during a successful boot.
The ASUS page directs buyers to its support and bifurcation tables; use those tables for the board revision and BIOS available at purchase because lane behavior and validated memory kits can change with firmware.
How much RAM does an Arc Pro B70 workstation need?
Intel’s published baseline is 64GB, configured as two 32GB DDR5-6400 DIMMs with XMP enabled. This is the clearest starting point for a single-B70 machine and keeps two slots available on a four-DIMM board for a later capacity increase.
| System memory | Suitable use | Configuration guidance |
|---|---|---|
| 64GB (2x32GB) | Intel’s benchmark baseline; one GPU, ordinary professional scenes and moderate datasets | Use a validated DDR5-6400 kit and enable XMP only after confirming stability. |
| 128GB | Large scenes, local AI models, heavy compositing, data preparation and several demanding applications | Prefer a board- and CPU-validated kit; speed may need to be reduced as capacity or DIMM count rises. |
| 192GB | Maximum supported by the ASUS ProArt Z890-Creator WiFi for very large projects or multiple virtual machines | Confirm the exact module configuration and QVL entry; do not assume 192GB will run at DDR5-6400. |
Capacity comes before headline speed
When a workload runs out of RAM, the operating system starts paging to storage, and the resulting slowdown overwhelms the difference between adjacent DDR5 speed grades. For that reason, choose 128GB instead of 64GB when local models, high-resolution assets or virtual machines regularly approach the baseline. Use the board’s maximum only when the workload can exploit it and the cost, training time and stability checks are acceptable.

Adding DIMMs also increases the load on the integrated memory controller. Populate the recommended slots, use matched modules and test with the intended applications. If XMP causes crashes, memory errors or failed boots, return to the board’s default profile, update the BIOS and retest before lowering speed or changing voltage.
PCIe layout and Resizable BAR setup
Resizable BAR allows the processor to map a larger portion of the graphics memory at once. Intel lists it as a platform requirement for the B70 desktop configuration, so it should be treated as a deployment setting rather than an optional tweak.
- Install the B70 in the motherboard’s primary full-length x16 slot. For two cards, place the cards in the two slots documented for x8/x8 operation.
- Enter UEFI setup during startup and enable Above 4G Decoding and Resizable BAR. Motherboard labels vary, so consult the manual if the options are under a PCIe, chipset or advanced submenu.
- Set the system to UEFI boot mode rather than legacy compatibility mode when the firmware requires it for BAR support.
- Save, reboot and confirm in the operating system’s GPU information or driver control panel that Resizable BAR is active.
- Install the current Intel workstation graphics driver and verify that every application used in production supports the B70 and the chosen operating system.
If the option is missing, update the motherboard firmware, load optimized defaults and inspect whether legacy boot or an older CPU-support BIOS is blocking it. A card can display an image with BAR disabled while still failing to meet the intended performance or software configuration.
Power supply, connectors and cooling
Intel’s desktop guide specifies a minimum 600W system power supply with a single 6-pin PCIe power connector. The 600W figure covers the complete system, not just the graphics card, and it is a minimum rather than a universal recommendation for a heavily loaded workstation.
For a Core Ultra 9 285K, multiple drives, high-speed fans or two B70 cards, select a higher-capacity unit with margin for sustained CPU and GPU load and for transient demand. Intel’s benchmark platform used an 850W Corsair RM850x, but that is a description of the tested system, not a blanket requirement for every build. A dual-card workstation should be sized from the actual partner-card power specifications plus the processor, storage and cooling load.

Power checklist
- Read the specific B70 card manual for its auxiliary connector type and required cable count; partner implementations can differ.
- Use a dedicated PCIe cable for each connector where the power supply manufacturer recommends it, and fully seat the plug before closing the case.
- Do not route a cable against a sharp side-panel bend immediately at the connector.
- Allow airflow into the card fans and provide an exhaust path for 160W-to-290W-class board heat.
- Monitor temperatures, clock behavior and power draw during a long render or AI run rather than relying on an idle reading.
Two cards can recirculate each other’s exhaust when installed close together. More case airflow, a wider chassis or a board with greater slot spacing may matter more than a small increase in fan speed.
Operating-system and driver planning
Intel lists Windows 11 and Ubuntu 22.04 or newer for the Arc Pro B70 desktop platform. Choose the operating system according to the applications, containers and management tools in the workflow, then verify the current workstation-driver release notes before deployment. Driver support can determine whether a particular renderer, AI framework or professional application recognizes both cards and exposes the expected acceleration features.
For a production system, keep a known-good driver package, record the installed BIOS and driver versions, and test updates on a noncritical installation first. A new driver can improve application support, but it can also change behavior in a plugin or enterprise image; controlled rollout makes that change reversible.

In Intel’s February 10–22, 2026 testing, the Arc Pro B70 was reported as 52% faster than the B60 on average across the listed Blender, D5 Render, LuxMark, Twinmotion and Agisoft Metashape workloads. Intel calculated the result from the median of three runs.
Recommended Free Tools
That figure is useful context for the product tier, but it is not a guarantee for every project. Application version, scene complexity, driver release, CPU overhead, memory capacity and whether one or two GPUs are used can all change the result. The practical lesson for system building is to reproduce the tested platform where possible, then validate the exact software stack that matters to your work.

A practical parts-selection sequence
- Define the GPU count: Decide whether the workstation will use one B70 or two. The second card changes slot wiring, spacing, cooling and power requirements.
- Choose the CPU: Start with the Core Ultra 9 285K when you want Intel’s published baseline. Consider a lower Core Ultra only after measuring how much CPU work your applications perform.
- Select the motherboard: For one card, require a full-length x16 slot and Resizable BAR. For two, require two CPU-connected PCIe 5.0 x16 slots with documented x8/x8 support.
- Set memory capacity: Use 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5-6400 for the baseline. Move to 128GB or the board’s validated maximum when datasets, scenes or virtual machines demand it.
- Check the memory QVL: Confirm the exact kit, DIMM population and supported speed for the chosen BIOS and processor before enabling XMP.
- Size power and cooling: Start above Intel’s 600W minimum when the CPU, storage and additional GPU load justify it, and follow the partner card’s connector and cooler instructions.
- Validate software: Install Windows 11 or Ubuntu 22.04-or-newer, apply the current workstation driver, enable Resizable BAR and run a sustained application test.
Common failure modes and fixes
The system boots but the B70 is not detected
Power off and reseat the card, verify every auxiliary connector, and test the primary slot with other expansion hardware removed. Then update the BIOS and install the current Intel driver. On a dual-card system, confirm that the board is configured for the documented x8/x8 arrangement rather than a slot disabled by lane sharing.
Resizable BAR remains disabled
Enable Above 4G Decoding and Resizable BAR in UEFI, disable legacy compatibility mode if required, and update the firmware. Confirm the status in the operating system after reboot; seeing a video signal alone does not prove that BAR is active.
Memory instability appears after enabling XMP
Return to default memory settings, test each kit at its stock profile and check the motherboard QVL. Four DIMMs or high-capacity modules may require a lower validated speed. Increase capacity only after the system is stable under a memory test and the real workload.
Performance drops during long runs
Inspect CPU and GPU temperatures, fan behavior, power limits and clock frequencies while the workload is running. A dense dual-card installation can exhaust case airflow, and a power supply operating near its limit can trigger protection or reduce sustained headroom.
A second card has little effect
Confirm that the application supports multi-GPU execution and that both cards appear in the driver. Check whether the board is actually operating at x8/x8 and whether the workload is limited by CPU preparation, system RAM, storage or synchronization overhead rather than GPU compute.
Recommended configurations
| Build type | CPU | Motherboard characteristics | RAM | Power approach |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Single-card reference workstation | Core Ultra 9 285K | Z890 with one full-length x16 slot, Resizable BAR and current BIOS | 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5-6400, XMP | At least 600W with one 6-pin PCIe connector; add headroom for the complete system |
| Single-card large-project workstation | Core Ultra 9 285K | Z890 with validated high-capacity memory support | 128GB, using a QVL-approved kit and stable speed | Capacity chosen from CPU, GPU, drives and cooling load |
| Dual-card creator or AI workstation | Core Ultra 9 285K | ASUS ProArt Z890-Creator WiFi or a board with two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots and documented x8/x8 bifurcation | 128GB; up to 192GB on the ASUS board when validated | Size for both partner-card specifications plus CPU and system transients |
| Budget-conscious GPU appliance | Lower Core Ultra model after workload validation | Z890 or compatible board meeting the x16 and BAR requirements | 64GB minimum baseline; increase if the application pages data | Never below Intel’s 600W system minimum and connector requirement |
Bottom line for a B70 purchase
Build one B70 around Intel’s documented Core Ultra 9 285K, Z890 and 64GB DDR5-6400 platform unless your measured workload gives you a clear reason to economize on the processor or expand memory. Use a full-size x16 slot, keep Resizable BAR enabled, and treat Intel’s 600W supply specification as a floor. For two cards, prioritize CPU-connected x8/x8 wiring, physical spacing and airflow; the ASUS ProArt Z890-Creator WiFi provides the documented slot layout and memory capacity to make that design practical. Validate the final partner card, BIOS and driver combination before putting the workstation into production.
