For many Windows 11 users, the built-in Clipboard History is enough: press Windows logo key + V and turn it on if prompted. If you need more than its 25-entry history, look at a dedicated manager. The seven names below are a shortlist of options, not a tested ranking; the available evidence supports detailed guidance for Windows Clipboard History, PowerToys and ClipboardFusion, but not current feature-by-feature claims for the other products.
Do you need a separate clipboard manager?
Start with Windows Clipboard History if you mainly need to retrieve something copied a few minutes ago or keep a handful of snippets pinned. Microsoft says history holds up to 25 copied entries, each limited to 4 MB, and supports text, HTML and bitmap formats. Unpinned history is cleared when you restart Windows; pinned entries remain. See Microsoft’s clipboard guidance for the current behavior.

That built-in tool is a poor fit if you regularly need a longer searchable archive, substantial organization, automation, or a specific cross-device workflow. In those cases, choose a manager based on the feature you actually need and verify its current compatibility, data handling and licensing before installing it.

A 2026 TechPP roundup names the following seven products as Windows options. That establishes them as candidates, not that each has been independently tested, remains available, or supports a particular feature on your current Windows 11 build. The evidence available here is strongest for the built-in clipboard, PowerToys and ClipboardFusion.

What the built-in Windows history can do
Open, enable and pin items
- Press Windows logo key + V.
- If Windows asks, select Turn on.
- Open the panel again with the same shortcut to choose a recent item or pin an item you want to keep.
Windows retains up to 25 copied entries, and unpinned history is cleared on restart. Those limits may be enough for occasional recovery, but are restrictive if you want a durable archive.
Rank #2
- 256 GB SSD of storage.
- Multitasking is easy with 16GB of RAM
- Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.
Sync across devices carefully
Clipboard sync is optional and tied to the same Microsoft or work account on the devices. In Settings > System > Clipboard, Windows offers automatic text sync or manual selection of individual items to sync. Because content may cross devices and accounts, check your organization’s rules before enabling sync for work material.
When PowerToys is the better fit
Microsoft PowerToys is a free, open-source utility suite. Its Advanced Paste feature can convert clipboard text into another format, with an optional AI-powered feature. That makes it a candidate for people who need text transformation rather than simply a bigger clipboard archive. Details are in the PowerToys overview.
Rank #3
- 14" diagonal, 1366x768 resolution, HD BrightView LED, Glossy NON-TOUCH Display
Microsoft documents support for Windows 11 and Windows 10 version 2004 (20H1/build 19041) or newer on x64 or ARM64 processors. Its installation guide lists GitHub, Microsoft Store, WinGet and other package managers as installation routes. See PowerToys installation requirements before installing.

ClipboardFusion’s vendor documentation describes local History and Pinned tabs, Online Recent and Online Pinned tabs, and a Macros tab. The guide says its local history defaults to 100 items kept for five days, and that these settings can be changed. Unlike Windows’ documented 25-entry history, this provides a longer default local list, though the products’ retention figures describe different documented behaviors rather than a comparative test.

How to choose without guessing
Before installing a manager, match its documented behavior to your actual workflow. Look for clear answers to these questions in the current product documentation:
- Retention: How many items are stored, for how long, and what happens after a restart?
- Formats: Does it preserve the text, HTML, images or files you need, or does sync support only text?
- Retrieval: Are there search, categories, pinned snippets, hotkeys or paste controls that suit your daily use?
- Sync and privacy: Does data stay local, or does syncing require an account or send content to another device or service? What can be excluded or cleared?
- Automation: Are macros or transformations included, and do they require extra setup or an account?
- Compatibility and licensing: Is the current release supported on your Windows 11 system, and what are the present license terms?
Clipboard contents can include passwords, personal information and work documents. Prefer the least complicated setup that meets your need, and learn how to disable capture and clear stored content before relying on a third-party archive.
