For a comfortable clip-on fit, start with the HUAWEI FreeClip 2, soundcore AeroClip, Bose Ultra Open Earbuds, and Shokz OpenDots 2—but don’t assume any one pair will suit every ear. A clip-on design leaves the ear canal open, which can avoid the pressure some people feel from in-ear buds and lets nearby sounds remain audible. Comfort still depends on ear shape and how much pressure you tolerate, so prioritize a secure, non-pinching fit over a universal “best” claim.
What clip-on open-ear earbuds can—and can’t—do
These earbuds attach around the outer ear rather than sealing inside the canal. That can be a good match if you dislike having an object in your ear canal or want to hear some of your surroundings while listening. SoundGuys’ May 2026 comparison describes clip-on earbuds as a potential fit for people who prefer an unoccluded design and want environmental awareness.

An open canal is not noise isolation. These earbuds are a poor choice when your priority is blocking traffic, transit, or busy-office noise. Bose says its Ultra Open design does not block the world and has no noise cancelling; ambient awareness is a design trade-off, not a way to make loud surroundings disappear.

| Bose Ultra Open Earbuds | Cuff-like open-ear fit. WIRED praises sound and physical button controls, while noting the higher relative price in its comparison. | Up to 7 hours of playback and IPX4, according to Bose. | Worth comparing if physical buttons matter to you and you prefer Bose’s cuff-like design. |

HUAWEI FreeClip 2: a broad all-rounder pick
SoundGuys’ comparison names the FreeClip 2 its best overall pick. In a separate review, SoundGuys lists comfort, battery, lightweight construction, and bass among the positives. It also flags cost, lack of noise blocking, and sound that varies with fit. The reviewer says the lab review involved two weeks of use and discloses that Huawei supplied the unit as part of a paid collaboration, while retaining editorial independence.
soundcore AeroClip: a workout-oriented option
Soundcore describes the AeroClip as an open-ring clip-on. Its product page lists 6.0 g per earbud, an IP55 rating, and up to 8 hours per charge or 32 hours with the case. Soundcore says those playback figures come from laboratory testing at 50% volume and that actual playback varies with volume, audio source, interference, and listening habits. SoundGuys selects the AeroClip for workouts in its comparison, and WIRED discusses comfort and stability. Neither a product-page comfort claim nor a reviewer’s impression establishes how the shape will fit your ear.

Bose’s product page describes a cuff-like open fit and lists up to 7 hours of playback and IPX4. Bose explicitly notes that the earbuds do not block the world and do not include noise cancelling. WIRED praises the sound and physical button controls, while describing them as relatively expensive in its comparison.
Shokz OpenDots 2: assess the pressure-stability balance
Tom’s Guide reported the OpenDots 2 launch on June 4, 2026, and discusses the fit and security in its hands-on review. The reviewer describes finding a balance between enough pressure to keep the earbuds stable and not so much that they become uncomfortable, and reports wearing them comfortably for hours. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a promise that they will suit every ear.

How to choose a comfortable pair
- Check the pressure before judging long-wear comfort. The clip should feel secure without pinching. Too much pressure may become uncomfortable; too little can let the earbud move, particularly during exercise. Fit varies by ear shape and personal tolerance.
- Match stability to your activity. A pair that stays in place while sitting may behave differently when walking or working out. If possible, try the fit while moving before deciding it is secure enough for your routine.
- Listen in the place you plan to use them. Open designs leave the canal unoccluded, so they do not isolate you from surrounding sound. Check whether music remains clear enough for your intended setting and whether sound leakage is acceptable around other people.
- Compare battery claims on their stated terms. Treat “up to” figures as manufacturer claims, not guaranteed runtime. The AeroClip’s stated test condition is 50% volume; use patterns and other conditions affect actual playback.
- Choose controls you can operate reliably. The cited coverage specifically praises physical buttons on the Bose Ultra Open. Consider whether buttons or touch controls are easier for you to use during movement; do not assume controls are identical across models.
- Check the resistance rating against your activity. AeroClip is listed as IP55 and Bose Ultra Open as IPX4. Those labels are not interchangeable, and the cited sources do not establish a universal winner for every exposure; check the manufacturer’s guidance for your use case.
- Check local price, availability, and return terms. Offers vary by country and retailer, and the cited sources do not establish current local pricing or return policies. Because fit is personal, a retailer’s return terms can matter as much as a small spec difference.
Other models worth a look
SoundGuys’ 2026 comparison also includes Sony LinkBuds Clip and Shokz OpenDots One. They are additional candidates if neither of the four lead picks suits you, but the available model-specific evidence here is not detailed enough for a reliable direct verdict against the FreeClip 2, AeroClip, Ultra Open, or OpenDots 2.
