For an occasional PDF, start with your browser’s built-in Print → Save to PDF option. Add an extension only when you need something specific—such as article cleanup, saving a selection, full-page capture, or a choice between image-like and searchable PDFs. Which option fits depends on what you need the PDF to preserve: page appearance, selectable text and links, or a cleaner reading layout.
Start with your browser’s built-in PDF option
If you only need to save a page now and then, try the built-in print dialog before installing anything. Firefox’s documented route is:

- Open the webpage and choose Print from the browser menu or press the browser’s print shortcut.
- In the destination dropdown, select Save to PDF.
- Adjust available settings such as orientation, page range, paper size, scale, margins, and background graphics. Firefox may also offer a simplified format.
- Review the preview, then save the file.
Firefox notes that a webpage may format itself differently for paper than it does on screen: “Web pages can set themselves up to appear different on paper to how they look on screen, so don’t be surprised to see some changes.” That is normal for print-to-PDF; check the preview before saving if layout matters. Mozilla’s Firefox print instructions explain the settings.

Microsoft says that Edge’s built-in print path sends print commands and file information to the device operating system, not Microsoft, when printing to a printer, application, or PDF. Its documentation specifically says Microsoft Print to PDF sends no file information back to Microsoft. This statement is about Edge’s built-in print path, not browser extensions or every browser. The options below are described in their official help or store listings; they have not been independently compared for speed, fidelity, reliability, or privacy. Pick by output type and controls, not by assuming one listing proves an extension performs better.

Match the tool to your task
Save a readable article
Try the browser’s print preview first. If the page is cluttered and you want to remove or edit content before saving, PrintFriendly’s Chrome listing describes those functions. For Firefox, Web to PDF lists article or reader-mode export. These are listed features, not a guarantee that every site will convert cleanly.
Export just part of a page
Web to PDF for Firefox lists selection export. That is a more direct fit when you need a specific passage or section rather than the full page. Check the result for missing context, captions, or links before relying on it.

Capture content below the fold
Web to PDF and PrintFriendly describe full-page capture. Full Page Saver offers a long image-style option, but its listing warns that content inside an independently scrolling panel may not be captured beyond the visible portion. A page that looks like one long document is not necessarily the same as a printable page.
Keep selectable text and working links
Full Page Saver’s “With text (A4)” option is described as using Firefox’s print engine and retaining searchable/copyable text and working links. Its “As image” mode instead creates a long page that looks like the screen. If you need to search, copy, or follow links in the PDF, choose text output and verify the saved file rather than assuming every PDF contains selectable text.
Control paper layout
Firefox’s print dialog and Web to PDF’s listing both describe controls such as paper size, orientation, scale, and margins. These settings can help fit wide pages or reduce clipping. Use the preview to catch unreadable scaling, blank pages, or unwanted headers and footers.

Permissions and privacy: what to check
An extension that captures pages may request access to tabs, downloads, history, or website content. Read the permission screen and ask whether the requested access fits the feature you want. In Web to PDF’s listing, downloads/history and tabs are required, while access to all website data is optional. Full Page Saver’s listing shows broad website access as required.
Privacy statements on add-on listings are developer disclosures; they do not establish an independent privacy audit. Web to PDF’s listing says its developer does not require data collection, and Full Page Saver’s developer says no data is sent anywhere. Those statements should be attributed to the developers, not treated as independently verified facts. Extension listings, permissions, versions, and policies can change, so review the current listing before installing.
How to choose and verify your result
- Decide what must survive: readable print layout, a selected passage, full-page appearance, or searchable text and links.
- Try print-to-PDF first if ordinary document output will do. It avoids adding an extension for a feature you may not need.
- Install only for a specific capability named in the current listing, such as selection export or content cleanup.
- Review permissions and the developer’s privacy disclosure before granting access to pages.
- Test a representative page from your own workflow. Check the top and bottom, page breaks, text selection, links, images, and any scrollable panels.
Marketplace ratings and review counts are snapshots, not controlled evidence of PDF fidelity, safety, speed, or reliability. The available official descriptions do not establish a comparative winner, so test the pages you actually need to save before depending on an extension.

Does saving a webpage as a PDF always preserve selectable text?
No. Some tools can create image-like PDFs; check the extension’s output mode and test whether you can select or search text in the saved file.
Can a full-page PDF capture content inside a scrolling panel?
