ProjectKorra is the best documented starting point for bending gameplay that Bedrock players can access. It is a Java (Spigot) plugin, not a native Bedrock add-on. The dependable architecture is a Java server that accepts Spigot/Paper plugins, ProjectKorra for elemental abilities, Geyser as the Bedrock-to-Java bridge, and Floodgate when Bedrock accounts should join without owning Java Edition.
This distinction determines what you install, how players authenticate, and which addons are safe to evaluate. A Bedrock-only server cannot load ProjectKorra directly; Bedrock compatibility comes from the Java server and Geyser layer.

The short answer: use a Java server stack
For a Bedrock-facing bending server, install the components in this order:
- A Java server implementation with Spigot/Paper plugin support. ProjectKorra requires this plugin environment.
- ProjectKorra. This supplies the elemental disciplines, abilities, permissions, commands and configuration used for bending gameplay.
- Geyser. It translates connections between Bedrock clients and the Java server.
- Floodgate, if needed. It allows Xbox Live-authenticated Bedrock players to join a Java server without a paid Java Edition account, and adds features such as account linking and Bedrock forms.
Install and validate the core stack before adding community extensions. Addons can expand the ability set, but they introduce separate version, permissions and maintenance risks.

What “Bedrock server” means in this context
There are two very different meanings of a Bedrock server. A native Bedrock server runs Bedrock software and accepts Bedrock behavior directly. A cross-play server runs Java software and exposes it to Bedrock clients through a translation layer.
Why ProjectKorra changes the architecture
ProjectKorra’s own FAQ describes it as a Spigot plugin intended for multiplayer servers. That means it cannot be dropped onto a Bedrock-only server as if it were a behavior pack. Its abilities execute on the Java server, where the plugin API, permissions and event system are available.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →What Geyser actually does
Geyser acts as a translator between the Bedrock client and Java server. Bedrock players see and control the world through their Bedrock client, while the gameplay authority remains the Java server running ProjectKorra. Geyser therefore provides connectivity; it does not add bending abilities by itself.
What Floodgate adds
Floodgate is optional. Use it when Bedrock users should authenticate with Xbox Live and enter without purchasing Java Edition. It can also support account linking and Bedrock-specific forms. If every player already owns Java Edition and signs in through Java authentication, Floodgate may not be necessary.
Recommended setups compared
| Setup | Can load ProjectKorra? | Bedrock connectivity | Bedrock account requirement | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Native Bedrock server | No; ProjectKorra is a Spigot plugin | Native Bedrock | Bedrock account | Bedrock-only gameplay without Java plugins |
| Java server plus ProjectKorra | Yes | Java clients only unless a bridge is added | Java authentication | Java players who want bending |
| Java server plus ProjectKorra and Geyser | Yes | Bedrock clients connect through the bridge | Authentication depends on the server setup | Java/Bedrock cross-play with bending |
| Java server plus ProjectKorra, Geyser and Floodgate | Yes | Bedrock clients connect through Geyser | Bedrock users can join without paid Java Edition ownership | A mixed community where many players own only Bedrock Edition |
The last row is the usual answer to “How do I run bending for Bedrock players?” It is a Java bending server presented to Bedrock clients, not ProjectKorra running natively on Bedrock.
ProjectKorra: the core bending plugin
ProjectKorra is the strongest documented starting point because its purpose is elemental bending rather than general server administration. Its official site describes it as “The #1 open source Minecraft plugin for bending,” reports more than 12 years of history, more than 1 million downloads and more than 100 plugins and addons, and says it has powered elemental gameplay since 2014. Those figures are publisher-reported and were current on the site when accessed in 2026.

What the core provides
- Elemental disciplines: air, water and other disciplines are represented through ability systems rather than cosmetic effects alone.
- Distinct play styles: the project documentation characterizes airbending around mobility and defense, waterbending around maneuverability and manipulation, and other elements through their own ability families.
- Administration: commands, permissions and server customization are part of the documented plugin feature set.
- Extension path: community addons can add abilities or related mechanics after the core installation is stable.
Why it should be installed first
Core-first installation isolates failures. If bending does not work before addons are added, the cause is likely the Java server, ProjectKorra configuration, permissions or a version mismatch. If it works and fails only after an addon is installed, you have a much narrower troubleshooting path.

How to build the stack step by step
1. Choose a Java server implementation
Select a Java server implementation that supports Spigot or Paper plugins. Confirm that the server’s Minecraft version, Java runtime and plugin API are supported by the specific ProjectKorra build you intend to use. Do not assume that a plugin built for one server release will work unchanged on another.
- Record the Minecraft server version before downloading plugins.
- Use the Java runtime required by that server release.
- Keep a clean backup of the world and configuration before each plugin change.
2. Start the server once
Run the Java server without bending plugins so it can create its initial files and accept the license agreement where required. Stop it cleanly after the first startup. This gives you a known-good baseline and prevents a plugin error from being confused with a server setup error.
3. Install ProjectKorra
Place the ProjectKorra plugin build that matches the server API in the server’s plugin directory, then start the server. Watch the startup log for a successful enable message and for dependency or API errors. After startup, check that ProjectKorra has generated its configuration and permission-related files.
Join with a Java client first. Test that a player can select or receive a discipline, activate a basic ability and use the documented administrative commands. If this fails, fix the Java installation before adding Geyser.
4. Add Geyser
Install the Geyser distribution intended for your server arrangement. Geyser’s project page distinguishes plugin and related project downloads, so choose the package that matches a plugin-based Java server rather than a standalone proxy architecture unless you deliberately operate a proxy.
Restart the server and confirm that Geyser enables without errors. Verify that its listener and authentication settings match the address and port you plan to publish to Bedrock players. The exact labels and defaults can change between releases; use the configuration generated by the installed build rather than copying an old file.
5. Add Floodgate only when its authentication model is required
If Bedrock players need to join without a paid Java Edition account, install the Floodgate companion that matches the Geyser arrangement. Follow the project’s current key-generation and authentication instructions, protect any generated key material, and restart the server.

Test with a Bedrock account that is not already logged into Java Edition. Confirm that the account can authenticate, receives the intended username format and can be assigned the permissions needed for bending. If your community uses Java accounts exclusively, leave Floodgate out until there is a clear requirement for it.
6. Test cross-play before enabling addons
Use one Java client and one Bedrock client at the same time. Test movement, ability activation, cooldowns, damage, projectiles, water interactions and death/respawn behavior. A Java test can prove that ProjectKorra works; only a Bedrock test can reveal translation or input-presentation problems.
7. Add extensions one at a time
Take a backup, install one addon, restart, and repeat the same test checklist. Keep a change log with the addon version, server version, configuration changes and observed errors. This is slower than installing a bundle, but it identifies the component responsible for a broken ability or startup failure.
Community addons: what to evaluate
ProjectKorra’s FAQ identifies JedCore and ProjectAddons as community side plugins associated with addon abilities and bending boards. ProjectKorra explicitly says these projects are not maintained by ProjectKorra. Treat that distinction as a maintenance boundary: the core team’s support and release cadence do not automatically apply to an addon.
Recommended Free Tools
| Option | Role | Maintenance relationship | Evidence and caution |
|---|---|---|---|
| ProjectKorra core | Elemental disciplines and core abilities | ProjectKorra project | Use as the baseline and verify its build against the exact server version |
| JedCore | Community bending abilities and related extensions | Not maintained by ProjectKorra | Check the release’s server-version support and test every ability through Geyser |
| ProjectAddons | Community addon abilities and bending-board features | Not maintained by ProjectKorra | Evaluate configuration, permissions and update activity independently |
| Bending Items | Custom items that affect bending abilities | Separate community side plugin | Uses YAML configuration; its page lists July 8, 2021 creation and September 2, 2023 latest update, so current compatibility must be confirmed |
JedCore and ProjectAddons
These are sensible candidates when the core ability set is not deep enough for your server concept, but they should be treated as optional extensions rather than required dependencies. Check four things before installation: the exact server version, the addon’s last meaningful update, its permission nodes and configuration format, and whether its abilities present correctly to Bedrock users.
Bending Items
Bending Items takes a different approach. Instead of primarily adding disciplines, it lets administrators define item-driven mechanics through YAML. That can support custom tools, rewards or event-specific interactions. YAML flexibility also means a malformed value can prevent a feature from loading or produce unexpected behavior, so validate changes in a staging copy and keep the original file available for rollback.
The listed dates matter because a community plugin created in 2021 and last updated in 2023 may or may not support a current server release. Date alone does not prove incompatibility, but it is a reason to require a successful test on the exact build you operate.

Permissions and administration
ProjectKorra documents commands and permissions, but permission names and command syntax depend on the installed build. Give ordinary players only the nodes required for their assigned discipline and reserve configuration or reload permissions for trusted administrators.
Use separate test and production roles
- Create a test group that can select disciplines and activate abilities without granting world-management powers.
- Use a moderator group for in-game diagnostics that does not expose plugin configuration.
- Reserve reload, configuration and addon-management permissions for the smallest possible administrator group.
- Recheck inherited permissions after adding Floodgate, because Bedrock usernames and account-linking choices can change how a permissions plugin identifies a player.
Prefer controlled restarts
Reload commands can leave event listeners, configuration state or addon hooks in an uncertain condition. When changing ProjectKorra or an addon, a scheduled full restart is safer than repeatedly reloading a live production server. Announce the maintenance window and keep a rollback copy of the previous configuration.
Common failure modes and fixes
“ProjectKorra will not load on my Bedrock server”
This usually indicates a native Bedrock server, not a Java server with Spigot/Paper plugin support. Move to the Java architecture described above, or choose a Bedrock-native alternative knowing that it will not be ProjectKorra itself.
Java players can bend, but Bedrock players cannot connect
Check Geyser installation, listener settings, firewall and the published Bedrock endpoint. Confirm that the Bedrock client is using the address and port exposed by Geyser, not an unrelated Java-only endpoint.
Bedrock players connect but cannot authenticate
Decide whether Floodgate is required. If users do not own Java Edition, install and configure Floodgate alongside Geyser. If Floodgate is already present, verify its authentication mode, generated key protection and account-linking state instead of changing ProjectKorra permissions first.
The core works, but an addon breaks startup
Stop the server, remove the newly added addon or restore the pre-addon backup, and confirm that ProjectKorra works again. Then check the addon’s stated server compatibility and dependency requirements. Do not assume an addon identified in an older FAQ remains compatible with a current release.

An ability works on Java but not on Bedrock
Reproduce it with the same permissions and discipline on both clients. If the server log shows the ability firing, investigate input mapping, targeting, forms, particles and inventory behavior. If the ability never fires, inspect permissions and addon dependencies first.

For Bending Items, validate the YAML syntax and compare the item definition with a known-working backup. Test one item at a time, then check whether the Bedrock client displays the item name, icon and interaction in the same way as Java.
How to choose addons without destabilizing the server
- Define the gameplay need. Decide whether you need more abilities, bending-board features or item-driven mechanics.
- Check release alignment. Match the addon to your exact Minecraft server, Java runtime and ProjectKorra build.
- Assess maintenance. Look for recent updates, clear configuration documentation and an active issue process. ProjectKorra’s support does not extend automatically to community addons.
- Audit permissions. Ensure every new ability and administrative action has an explicit permission path.
- Run Bedrock tests. Do not approve an addon solely because Java players report success.
- Document rollback. Save the previous plugin set, configuration and world backup before enabling the addon for everyone.
Decision guide
Choose only ProjectKorra when
You want a stable elemental foundation, are willing to start with the documented core disciplines and want the fewest moving parts. This is the best first deployment for a new server.
Add Geyser when
Bedrock clients must connect to the Java server. Geyser is the connectivity layer; it does not replace ProjectKorra or provide bending content.
Add Floodgate when
Bedrock players should join without paid Java Edition ownership, or you need its account-linking and Bedrock-form capabilities. It is not mandatory for every Geyser installation.
Evaluate JedCore or ProjectAddons when
The core abilities do not provide enough variety and you accept the responsibility of testing and maintaining community code separately from ProjectKorra.
Evaluate Bending Items when
Your design depends on custom items that trigger or modify bending mechanics and your team is comfortable maintaining YAML configuration and verifying an addon whose listed latest update is September 2, 2023.
Final verdict
For a Minecraft Bedrock audience, the best bending “plugin” is a stack rather than a single download: ProjectKorra on a Java server, Geyser for Bedrock connectivity, and Floodgate when Bedrock-only account ownership must be supported. ProjectKorra supplies the gameplay; Geyser supplies the bridge; Floodgate solves an authentication requirement.
Build and test that core path first. Add JedCore, ProjectAddons or Bending Items only after you have confirmed exact version compatibility, permissions, configuration behavior and Bedrock presentation. That approach gives players the deepest documented bending system while keeping failures diagnosable and maintenance under your control.
