The most effective way to extend an OPPO Reno’s battery life is to check which apps are actually consuming power, then adjust background activity, screen refresh rate, brightness and screen timeout. Start at Settings > Battery > Battery usage on ColorOS 14 and newer (or Settings > Battery > Battery usage by app on older releases), apply routine Power Saving when you need extra endurance, and reserve Super power saving mode for emergencies. Avoid closing every app indiscriminately: targeted restrictions preserve more notifications and usually solve the real drain.
- Measure app consumption before changing settings.
- Use Power Saving for a balanced extension of runtime.
- Restrict only apps that do not need background work.
- Lower refresh rate, brightness and screen-on time for display-heavy drain.
- Match charging accessories to your exact Reno model and regional specification.
Identify your ColorOS version before changing anything
OPPO changes menu names and available controls between Reno generations, ColorOS releases and regions. Open Settings > About phone and note the ColorOS version before following a path. On some phones the control is called Power Saving; on others it appears as Low Power Mode. Battery menus can also move slightly, and OPPO notes that illustrations and settings may differ from the device in its support documentation.

The instructions below use the current ColorOS 14-and-newer labels where they are known, then give the older path or alternate label. If a setting is missing, use the Settings search field with terms such as battery usage, power saving, refresh rate or app battery management rather than assuming your phone cannot perform the function.

Measure battery use before disabling apps
Battery diagnostics tell you whether the drain comes from one app, the display, a radio or normal heavy use. On ColorOS 14 and newer, open Settings > Battery > Battery usage. On older versions, use Settings > Battery > Battery usage by app. OPPO’s view reports each app’s foreground activity, background activity and calculated power consumption.

- Open the appropriate battery-usage screen.
- Review the period shown and identify the largest consumers.
- Separate unavoidable use from avoidable use. A navigation app used for an hour, for example, is not the same problem as a rarely used app consuming power in the background.
- Open an individual app’s details to see whether its foreground or background activity is responsible.
- Change one setting at a time, then check the same screen later so you can tell whether the change helped.
This approach is safer than swiping away every recent app. Blanket closing can interrupt work, force apps to reload and still leave the underlying cause—high brightness, a weak signal or an always-active sync—untouched.
What to look for in the report
- High foreground activity: the app is consuming power while you actively use it. Reduce screen time, streaming quality or navigation time if appropriate.
- High background activity: the app is waking, syncing or processing while you are not using it. Consider a per-app restriction if its alerts are not important.
- Several apps with low individual use: routine Power Saving and display adjustments may produce a broader improvement than disabling one app.
- Sudden drain with little app activity: check for poor cellular reception, hotspot use, location access, Bluetooth accessories or a recent software update before changing app permissions.
Turn on routine Power Saving when endurance matters
Open Settings > Battery > Power Saving; on some Reno phones the same control is labelled Low Power Mode. OPPO describes the mode as increasing battery life by intelligently decreasing background activities. Depending on ColorOS version, it may also lower brightness, shorten automatic lock time and limit mobile network, Wi‑Fi, GPS or location, Bluetooth and hotspot functions.
Enable it when you need the phone to last through travel, a long workday or a period away from a charger. After enabling it, verify the functions you still need. If you are navigating, using a wearable, sharing a hotspot or waiting for a time-critical message, the mode’s connectivity limits may matter more than the additional endurance.

Keep the trade-offs visible
- Runtime: generally better because background work is reduced; OPPO does not publish one universal percentage for the setting.
- Notifications: usually remain available, but delayed background activity or restricted connectivity can postpone some alerts.
- Screen behaviour: brightness or lock timing may change automatically, depending on the release.
- Connectivity: some versions limit selected radios or hotspot functions. Check before relying on a connection.
- Reversibility: high—turn the mode off from the same Battery screen when normal operation is required.
Restrict background apps selectively
For finer control, open Settings > Battery > More settings > App battery management. Some versions expose similar controls under an Energy Saver screen. Choose an app and select the available optimization, freeze or background-restriction option.

Use the battery-usage report to decide which apps deserve a restriction. An app that you open once a month can usually be optimized more aggressively than an app that must receive messages or synchronize data.
Apps that should usually remain unrestricted
- Messaging and calling apps whose notifications you need promptly.
- Navigation apps while a route is active.
- Alarm, calendar-reminder and safety applications.
- Wearable and health-device companions that must maintain a connection.
- Work-authenticator, security or device-management apps required by your organization.
Apps that are candidates for optimization
- Shopping, social, video or game apps that you use occasionally.
- Cloud, photo or file tools that do not need immediate synchronization.
- Retail, news or coupon apps whose alerts are nonessential.
- Old apps showing disproportionate background consumption in Battery usage.
OPPO warns that background freeze or Doze-style controls can delay notifications. After restricting an app, send yourself a test message or wait for a scheduled sync. If the alert arrives late, remove the restriction or use a less aggressive optimization option. Do not restrict an app and then diagnose its missing notification as a network failure without checking this setting first.
Tune the display: the most visible source of avoidable drain
Reno models can use high-refresh-rate AMOLED panels. OPPO’s Reno13 5G specification lists a 120Hz display, but not every Reno has the same panel or menu. Open Settings > Display & brightness and look for Screen refresh rate, Refresh rate or a similar label.

A fixed high refresh rate makes scrolling and supported games look smoother, while a lower or adaptive setting reduces how often the display refreshes. Use adaptive brightness, then lower it indoors
In Settings > Display & brightness, enable adaptive or automatic brightness if you move between lighting conditions. Indoors, reduce the slider manually when comfortable. The screen is often the largest continuous load during active use, so avoiding unnecessarily high brightness can matter more than small background tweaks.
Shorten screen timeout
Set Screen timeout or Auto screen off to the shortest interval that does not interrupt reading or work. A shorter timeout prevents the display from remaining lit after you put the phone down. If you routinely read long documents, choose a practical interval and rely on the power button when finished rather than selecting an excessively long timeout.
Disable Always-On Display if you do not use it
Always-On Display keeps selected pixels and supporting processes active to show time or notifications. Turn it off under the lock-screen or Always-On Display settings if you do not need that glanceable information. If you depend on it, keep it enabled and prioritize brightness, refresh rate and timeout changes instead.
Use dark mode and reduce haptics as secondary adjustments
Dark mode can reduce power on OLED or AMOLED screens when the interface contains substantial dark areas, because those pixels emit less light. Turn it on through Settings > Display & brightness > Dark mode when the appearance is comfortable. Its effect varies with the apps you use; a mostly white webpage or video will not become low-power simply because the system theme is dark.

Disable unnecessary vibration and touch haptics under Settings > Sound & vibration. Each vibration uses the phone’s motor, so removing repeated keyboard or touch feedback eliminates small, continuous bursts of consumption. Keep vibration for calls, alarms or safety alerts that you rely on.
Understand Super power saving mode before using it
ColorOS manuals place Super power saving mode under Settings > Battery > Power saving mode. It is designed for a very low-battery situation, not as an everyday profile. It limits normal activity more aggressively than routine Power Saving, which can reduce the apps, notifications and connectivity you can use.
Use it when
- You are far from a charger and need the phone to remain reachable.
- The battery is critically low and calls or essential messages matter more than full smartphone access.
- You have already reduced display load and stopped nonessential background work.
Leave it when normal access is needed
Exit Super power saving mode from its on-screen control or the Battery settings when you need ordinary notifications, navigation, hotspot use or unrestricted app access. Because the mode’s purpose is emergency endurance, test important functions after returning to normal operation rather than assuming every background service resumed immediately.

Match charging accessories to the exact Reno model
Battery life between charges also depends on how quickly and safely you can recharge. A representative Reno13 specification lists a USB Type-C port, a 5600mAh typical battery and 80W SUPERVOOC charging. Those figures describe that model and region; they do not establish the specification for every Reno phone.
When buying a spare, search for a USB-C charging cable for OPPO Reno or an OPPO SUPERVOOC-compatible charger, then verify the exact model number, supported wattage, cable rating and regional plug. Do not assume that every Reno accepts 80W or that a third-party charger will reproduce SUPERVOOC speeds. A compatible lower-wattage charger can still charge the phone, but charging speed may differ from the phone’s advertised maximum.
Check before connecting
- Read the model and regional specification in the phone documentation or product page.
- Confirm that the charger’s output and cable rating match the phone’s supported input.
- Use an undamaged cable and keep the USB-C connector free of dust or moisture.
- If fast charging does not appear, test with the original or a known-compatible charger before changing battery settings.
Fix common battery-drain symptoms
The phone loses charge overnight
- Check Settings > Battery > Battery usage in the morning.
- Look for background-heavy apps, hotspot use, location access or a poor-signal period.
- Restrict only the nonessential app responsible, and leave messaging, alarms, wearables and work-authenticator apps allowed.
- Turn off Always-On Display if you do not use it, then shorten screen timeout.
Notifications arrive late after saving changes
- Open Settings > Battery > More settings > App battery management.
- Find the affected messaging, mail or calendar app.
- Remove the freeze or aggressive background restriction, then test a new notification.
- If routine Power Saving is active, check whether mobile data, Wi‑Fi or other connectivity was limited.
The phone feels slow after switching to a lower refresh rate
Choose Auto instead of Standard, or restore the higher refresh-rate option when smooth scrolling is more important than endurance. The setting changes display fluidity, not the phone’s processor capability.
The battery still drains quickly after app restrictions
Return to the usage report instead of adding more restrictions. Lower brightness, reduce screen-on time, check for location or hotspot use and examine signal conditions. If no single app is responsible, routine Power Saving can provide a broader response than repeatedly freezing unrelated apps.
Build a setting profile for your situation
Normal workday
- Keep refresh rate on Auto.
- Use adaptive brightness and a moderate indoor brightness level.
- Set a practical, short screen timeout.
- Leave essential communication, alarm, navigation and authentication apps unrestricted.
- Apply per-app optimization only to background-heavy, nonessential apps.
Travel or a long day away from power
- Review Battery usage before leaving.
- Turn on routine Power Saving.
- Use Standard refresh rate if you can accept less fluid scrolling.
- Disable Always-On Display and unnecessary haptics.
- Check that navigation, tickets, maps and required messages still work after the changes.
Critical battery level
- Lower brightness and shorten timeout immediately.
- Stop hotspot, location and Bluetooth functions you are not using.
- Enable Super power saving mode only when its app and notification restrictions are acceptable.
- Exit emergency mode when you can recharge or need normal smartphone access.
What the available specifications do—and do not—tell you
OPPO’s Reno13 5G specification identifies a 120Hz display, a 5600mAh typical battery and 80W SUPERVOOC charging for that listed model. These are useful reference points when checking your own device, but they are not universal Reno values. Battery capacity, panel behaviour, charging speed and menu options can differ by generation and region.
No OPPO-published universal battery-saving percentage is established for changing refresh rate, brightness, dark mode, haptics, Power Saving or Super power saving. Treat the settings as controls with situation-dependent effects, and use the Battery usage screen to verify the result on your phone instead of expecting a fixed number.
A repeatable maintenance routine
- Check Battery usage after installing a demanding app, travelling or noticing a sudden change.
- Remove or restrict only apps with avoidable background consumption.
- Recheck notification timing for every app whose background activity you changed.
- Review display brightness, refresh rate, timeout and Always-On Display once a month or after a ColorOS update.
- Confirm that any replacement charger and cable match the exact Reno model and regional charging specification.
This routine keeps battery saving proportional: broad controls are available when endurance is urgent, while everyday use retains the notifications, connectivity and smoothness you actually need.
