The best everyday setup for the Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i Gen 11 is simple: use the low-power mode on battery, Adaptive (sometimes called Intelligent or Balanced) for mixed work, and the highest-performance mode only when the charger is connected. Turn on Conservation mode if the laptop spends most of its life at a desk, set the display to 60 Hz for ordinary work, and keep sleep and screen-off timers short.
These settings improve endurance without permanently making the Yoga Pro 9i slow. Lenovo exposes them through Lenovo Vantage and the Fn+Q shortcut, while Windows controls brightness, refresh rate and idle behavior. The 16-inch Gen 11 family has a specified 92.5 Wh battery, but actual runtime varies with the processor and graphics configuration, display, software, wireless activity, brightness and power settings.

What to change first
Make these changes before tuning individual applications:
- On battery: open Lenovo Vantage and select the low-power or extreme-low-power operating mode. The exact wording can differ by firmware and Vantage version.
- For mixed work: select Adaptive, Intelligent or Balanced mode. Lenovo describes this profile as dynamically moving between lower- and higher-power behavior as your workload changes.
- When plugged in for sustained work: choose the highest-performance or extreme-power mode only if you need predictable CPU/GPU speed.
- For a desk-bound machine: enable Conservation mode so charging is held around 75%–80%.
- For office, web and writing: set the panel to 60 Hz, use sensible brightness and let the discrete GPU remain asleep unless a particular application needs it.
Press Fn+Q to cycle through the available operating modes, or change the mode in Lenovo Vantage. Mode names and the number of choices can vary with the exact Yoga Pro 9i Gen 11 configuration and driver package.

How the Yoga Pro 9i power modes differ
Lenovo’s operating modes are a trade-off among battery draw, sustained speed, fan noise and temperature. The fastest setting is not automatically the best setting: it is useful when a long render, compile, export or game justifies the extra heat and power.
| Mode | Best use | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Low-power or extreme-low-power | Battery operation, reading, writing, travel and quiet environments | Lowest power demand and fan activity; peak performance is reduced compared with performance mode |
| Adaptive, Intelligent or Balanced | Browsing, office work, coding and occasional heavier tasks | Automatically shifts between lower- and higher-power behavior according to the work in progress |
| Highest-performance or extreme-power | Plugged-in rendering, sustained compilation, video work and gaming | Highest attainable performance, power consumption and fan speed; more heat and audible fans are expected |
Lenovo’s user guide notes that the maximum attainable performance, power consumption and heat-sink fan speed vary between operation modes. That is why a high-performance profile can feel faster in a sustained task while being a poor choice for a long battery session.
Best battery settings when you are away from an outlet
1. Select the low-power profile
Open Lenovo Vantage, find the device’s operating-mode or performance control, and choose the low-power option. Lenovo describes this profile for battery operation or quiet use. If the app uses a different label, choose the option that explicitly emphasizes low power rather than maximum performance.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →2. Set the refresh rate to 60 Hz
In Windows 11, open Settings > System > Display > Advanced display, select the Yoga Pro 9i’s internal panel and choose 60 Hz. Lenovo says 60 Hz is adequate for most situations and is energy efficient. A higher refresh rate is worthwhile for games, fast scrolling or motion-heavy video, but it increases display activity and therefore battery demand.
3. Match brightness to the room
Use the Windows brightness slider rather than leaving the panel at a permanently high level. The brightest setting is rarely necessary indoors, and the display is often one of the largest continuous battery loads. There is no universal brightness number that fits every room; lower it until text remains comfortable to read without glare.
4. Keep the discrete GPU asleep unless an app needs it
Many Yoga Pro 9i configurations include switchable graphics. For documents, web pages and most coding, let the integrated graphics handle the display and keep the discrete GPU asleep. GPU selection varies by configuration and driver, so verify it per application in Windows graphics settings or the application’s own launcher instead of assuming one global switch applies to every model.

5. Shorten idle timers
Open Settings > System > Power & battery > Screen, sleep & hibernate timeouts and use short delays when running on battery. Lenovo’s documented defaults are three minutes on battery and five minutes when plugged in for both screen-off and sleep. Those defaults are a useful starting point; choose a shorter battery timeout if the laptop is often left unattended.

Press Fn+Space to cycle the keyboard-backlight levels. Turn it down or off in a bright room. The saving is smaller than reducing display brightness, but it is free and avoids lighting an idle keyboard.
When Adaptive mode is the right default
Adaptive mode is the sensible profile if your day mixes light and heavy work. Lenovo describes it as dynamically switching between high- and low-power behavior according to the tasks running. That makes it a practical default for browsing with many tabs, office applications, coding, meetings and occasional photo or video work.
Use Adaptive when you want the laptop to respond to a brief burst of activity without committing to the fan noise and battery draw of the highest-performance profile. If a sustained task repeatedly falls short of the speed you need, connect the charger and switch to the highest-performance mode for that task rather than leaving it enabled all day.
Best settings for plugged-in creation, rendering and gaming
Connect the charger before selecting maximum performance
Choose the highest-performance or extreme-power mode in Lenovo Vantage, or cycle to it with Fn+Q, after connecting the correct charger. This profile is intended for workloads where sustained CPU or GPU speed matters more than efficiency.
Expect heat and fan noise
Maximum performance raises power consumption and allows higher fan speed. Keep the rear and side vents clear, use the laptop on a hard surface and avoid soft bedding that can restrict airflow. Lenovo positions its X Power features as thermal optimization for sustained speed, but no thermal system can eliminate the heat produced by a high-power processor and GPU.

Use application-level graphics selection
If a game or creative application is not using the expected GPU, check its Windows graphics preference or in-app setting. The available controls differ by model and driver. Do not force the discrete GPU for every application: doing so can increase idle draw even when the program is only displaying a document.
Return to Adaptive or low-power afterward
When the render, export or game is finished, switch back to Adaptive for general plugged-in work or low-power mode before unplugging. This avoids carrying the high fan curve and power demand into the next battery session.
Charging modes and long-term battery health
Conservation mode for a laptop that stays at a desk
In Lenovo Vantage, enable Conservation mode when the Yoga Pro 9i is normally connected to power. Lenovo states that this mode keeps the battery within approximately 75%–80% rather than fully charging it. Avoiding long periods at 100% is intended to reduce stress on the pack over time.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsConservation mode is safe to leave enabled for a regularly plugged-in setup, but it is not the right choice immediately before travel. The laptop will not provide a full charge while the limit is active.
Normal or Rapid charge before leaving
Switch from Conservation to Normal or Rapid charge when you need maximum capacity for a day away from outlets. Let the battery reach 100%, then restore Conservation mode when you return to a desk-based routine. Rapid charging trades charging time for higher charging power, so use it when readiness matters rather than as a permanent health setting.
Overnight battery charging, if your model supports it
Some configurations offer Overnight battery charging. When enabled for a regular nightly schedule, the feature learns the routine and delays the final charge so the battery reaches full capacity near the expected morning instead of remaining full for the entire night. The option may not appear on every Gen 11 configuration or Vantage version.

Keep the battery in the recommended temperature range
Lenovo recommends charging between 10°C and 35°C (50°F and 95°F). Lenovo Vantage can display battery temperature. If the laptop is hot after gaming or rendering, allow it to cool before charging rather than placing it in a confined space.
Understand the recharge threshold
Lenovo’s guide says a fully charged battery must fall to 94% or lower before the system begins charging again. Seeing the percentage remain at 100% while connected is therefore normal; it is not evidence that charging has failed.
Battery meter recovery and calibration
If the Yoga Pro 9i has stayed plugged in for a long period and the percentage appears inaccurate, Lenovo’s documented recovery procedure is:
- Use the laptop on battery until the charge falls below 20%.
- Connect the charger and charge continuously to 100%.
- Check the reported percentage again after the full cycle.
This procedure recalibrates the displayed estimate; it does not increase the battery’s physical capacity. Do not make a full discharge a daily habit when you can avoid it.
Display, sleep and keyboard choices at a glance
| Setting | Battery-focused choice | When to choose the alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Refresh rate | 60 Hz | Use the panel’s higher rate for games or motion-heavy video |
| Screen-off timeout | Three minutes on battery is Lenovo’s documented default | Use a longer delay only when your workflow genuinely requires it |
| Sleep timeout | Three minutes on battery is Lenovo’s documented default | Use a longer delay for presentations or monitoring tasks |
| Keyboard backlight | Lowest comfortable level or off | Raise it in dark rooms when visibility matters |
A practical profile for common situations
Writing, web and office work on battery
- Low-power mode in Lenovo Vantage.
- 60 Hz refresh rate.
- Brightness adjusted to the room.
- Integrated graphics preferred unless an application requires the discrete GPU.
- Short screen-off and sleep timers.
- Keyboard backlight reduced or off.
Mixed work at home or in the office
- Adaptive, Intelligent or Balanced mode.
- 60 Hz unless smooth motion is important.
- Normal charging, or Conservation mode if the laptop will remain connected for days.
- Switch to performance mode only for a sustained task.
Rendering, compiling, editing or gaming while plugged in
- Connect the charger first.
- Highest-performance or extreme-power mode.
- Use the discrete GPU only for applications that benefit from it.
- Keep vents unobstructed and expect higher fan noise and temperature.
- Return to Adaptive or low-power mode when the workload ends.
How to compare settings without misleading yourself
Compare one change at a time under similar conditions. Record the operating mode, refresh rate, brightness, wireless activity and application workload. A web-browsing session and a 3D game cannot be used as equivalent battery tests.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Use four questions for every choice:
- Battery draw: does the setting reduce the rate at which the percentage falls?
- Sustained performance: does the workload finish faster, or does it merely create more short bursts?
- Noise and temperature: are the extra fans and heat acceptable in your environment?
- Power source: is the charger connected, and do you actually need the extra performance?
Conservation versus Normal or Rapid charge is mainly a battery-health versus immediate-readiness decision. Sixty hertz versus a higher refresh rate is an efficiency versus motion-smoothness decision. Adaptive versus maximum performance is a convenience versus predictable sustained-speed decision.

What battery life should you expect?
Lenovo’s PSREF lists a 92.5 Wh battery for the Gen 11 16-inch family. That figure describes battery capacity, not a guaranteed number of hours. Lenovo explicitly says runtime depends on configuration, software, wireless functionality, power-management settings and screen brightness.
Processor and GPU choice, the type of display fitted to the particular unit, the number of active applications, wireless signal conditions and background updates can all change the result. Treat any runtime estimate as configuration-specific rather than a promise for every Yoga Pro 9i Gen 11.
A recent TechRadar review of a Gen 11 Aura Edition sample found it remained usable during benchmarking, video editing and other heavy workloads. The reviewer heard fans under load and did not observe obvious performance slowdown. That is one reviewer’s result under its test conditions, not a guarantee for every CPU, GPU, display or firmware combination.
Troubleshooting common problems
The battery stops at about 75%–80%
Conservation mode is probably enabled. That behavior is intentional. Disable Conservation and select Normal or Rapid charge when you need 100%, then re-enable Conservation for long desk-bound periods.
The laptop is loud or hot during ordinary work
Check Lenovo Vantage’s operating mode and press Fn+Q to move away from the highest-performance profile. Then check whether a background application is keeping the discrete GPU active. Use Adaptive or low-power mode and confirm that vents are unobstructed.
Battery life falls sharply after unplugging
Check for a high refresh rate, excessive brightness, maximum-performance mode and an application using the discrete GPU. Set 60 Hz, reduce brightness, select low-power mode and verify graphics preferences per application.
The percentage appears stuck at 100%
Lenovo says the battery must drop to 94% or lower before charging resumes. If the meter still seems wrong after normal use, perform the below-20%-then-100% recovery cycle described above.

A preferred mode is missing
Mode names and available controls vary by configuration, firmware and Lenovo Vantage version. Install current Lenovo system software supplied for the exact Yoga Pro 9i model, then check Vantage again. Do not assume that a setting documented for one Gen 11 display or graphics configuration exists on every unit.
The best overall setup
For most owners, leave the Yoga Pro 9i Gen 11 in Adaptive mode for mixed work, switch to low-power mode whenever you unplug it for ordinary tasks, and use 60 Hz unless you need high-refresh motion. Keep Conservation mode on if the laptop is normally docked or desk-bound; turn it off before a travel day. Reserve the highest-performance mode for charger-connected workloads that genuinely benefit from sustained CPU or GPU speed.
