Best Assetto Corsa Drift Server Settings for Fair, Consistent Sessions (2026)

Use this 2026 baseline for Assetto Corsa drift servers: disable AI, enable tyre blankets, run Old or Green surface at 95–97%, standardize assists and CSP, then validate scoring with a second driver.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a dependable Assetto Corsa drift server in 2026, start with AI traffic disabled (EnableAi: false), tyre blankets enabled, and the track surface set to Old or Green at 95–97%. Use Factory ABS and traction control for a mixed public event, or enforce Off/Forced rules only when every driver is expected to follow them. Keep fuel, damage and tyre-wear rates at 100% for the first representative stint, require the same Custom Shaders Patch (CSP) build on every client, and treat drift-angle, duration and validation settings as part of the competition rules.

The procedure below turns those values into a repeatable server: install AssettoServer, edit server_cfg.ini and extra_cfg.yml, restart after changes, then test with a second driver before opening the lobby.

Recommended baseline preset

The following is a practical starting point for a public drift room. It favors predictable car behavior and clean scoring over maximum realism or unrestricted traffic.

Setting Starting value Why use it
AI traffic EnableAi: false Removes traffic conflicts and unexpected wrong-way behavior in a pure drift session.
Tyre blankets Enabled Cars leave the pits with a consistent tyre-temperature baseline.
Track surface Old or Green, 95–97% AssettoHosting’s 2026 drift guide says this lowers mechanical grip and makes initiating a slide easier.
ABS and traction control Factory for mixed public events Assetto Servers identifies Factory as the sensible default when cars and driver abilities are mixed.
ABS and traction control for strict events Off or Forced, according to the rules Use a single declared policy when the event requires identical assists.
Stability control Off for competition; optional for beginners Off preserves a more realistic, skill-dependent car response.
Fuel rate 100% Normal baseline recommended by Assetto Servers.
Damage rate 100% Normal baseline; change only after testing a representative stint.
Tyre-wear rate 100% Normal baseline; changing it with other rates makes diagnosis harder.

These are starting values, not universal laws. Car packs, track layouts and the skill level of the room can justify later changes, but change one rate or rule at a time and record the result.

Set grip and tyre temperature before tuning anything else

Choose Old or Green surface state

Drift initiation depends heavily on available mechanical grip. AssettoHosting’s 2026 guidance recommends the Old or Green surface state at 95–97%. The lower-grip baseline lets the rear tyres break traction without requiring an extreme clutch kick or unusually aggressive setup.

Use one surface state and one percentage for the entire event. Do not let some sessions run at 95% and others at 97% if you intend to compare scores; a small grip change alters initiation speed, required steering angle and how long a driver can hold the car.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Enable tyre blankets

Tyre blankets remove the largest pit-exit variable: one driver beginning on cold tyres while another starts on usable temperature. With blankets enabled, the first scored corner is closer to the grip drivers have for the rest of the run. This is particularly important when a scoring system records minimum drift duration or angle from the moment the car leaves the pits.

Keep weather and CSP conditions fixed

When CSP supplies weather, lighting or surface-related features, keep the weather preset, track configuration and CSP build identical for every participant. A leaderboard is only comparable when the physical and scoring inputs are the same.

Decide the assist policy explicitly

Factory assists for an open public room

Factory ABS and traction control allow each car to use the assistance level defined by its physics data. Assetto Servers lists this as the sensible default for mixed-car public events because it avoids forcing a beginner into a control scheme that a particular car was not designed to support.

Off or Forced for a rules-based event

Use Off when the event bans ABS or traction control. Use Forced only when the event requires the same enforced state for every driver. Publish the policy before the session starts; changing it after qualifying invalidates comparisons made under the earlier rule.

Stability control

Set stability control to Off for realistic competition. It is reasonable to leave it optional for a beginner room, but optional assistance means two drivers may be receiving different corrections. If you allow it, mark that room as non-competitive or keep separate results.

Use 100% rates as the first stint

Assetto Servers recommends starting fuel, damage and tyre-wear rates at 100% for a normal baseline. Run a representative stint, then adjust only one rate before testing again.

Fuel

At 100%, observe how many scored runs a normal tank supports and whether drivers can finish without an artificial fuel-saving phase. If you later alter fuel rate, leave damage and tyre wear unchanged for the comparison.

Damage

At 100%, contacts have a meaningful consequence without introducing a special multiplier. Test wall taps, tandem contact and a full spin. Verify that the resulting damage is visible to the driver and does not silently prevent a pit exit.

Tyre wear

At 100%, monitor a complete stint rather than judging the first lap. Drifting can overheat and wear the rear tyres quickly; a rate that feels fine for a single run may be excessive for a long session. Change the wear rate only after recording how grip and scoring evolve through the stint.

Disable AI traffic for a pure drift session

Set EnableAi: false when the server is intended for drift practice, tandem runs or judged competition. AI traffic can occupy the line, create avoidable contacts and trigger wrong-way or traffic-related behavior while a driver is repositioning after a spin.

Install and deploy AssettoServer in a controlled sequence

1. Install the server files

Install or extract AssettoServer in Assetto Corsa’s server folder. Launch AssettoServer.exe once to confirm that the executable starts and creates the expected configuration environment.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

2. Edit the two configuration files

Put session and server options in server_cfg.ini and the additional rules in extra_cfg.yml, following the syntax supplied with your AssettoServer build. Make one logical change at a time so an error can be traced to the last edit.

3. Restart after every configuration change

Stop the running instance, save both files, and launch the executable again. A live process will not reliably pick up every edit, and testing a stale configuration can lead you to “fix” a setting that was never loaded.

4. Confirm the loaded rules

Apply the rules, wait for the server’s confirmation, then restart once more before inviting drivers. Check the effective values in the server output or status display rather than assuming that a saved file was parsed successfully.

Set CSP requirements and track paths consistently

Minimum build for the documented scoring workflow

For a live drift HUD or CSP-assisted leaderboard validation, Assetto Servers documents a minimum of CSP 0.1.77 build 1937. Require that build or newer only when every client can install it and the track and car content is compatible. Record the exact build in the server rules so drivers do not join with different physics or HUD behavior.

Use the documented CSP track-path pattern

AssettoServer’s documented example is TRACK=csp/<CSPversionID>/../<trackname>. In that path, change only the first SURFACE_0 entry to CSPFACE_0. Changing additional surface entries can produce checksum errors, preventing clients from joining even when they have the visible track installed.

Keep every client on the same build

Do not mix a driver on an older CSP build with a driver on the required build when the room uses CSP physics, weather, HUD or scoring. If a participant fails the version check, have them update or remove the incompatible client before changing the server requirement for everyone else.

Make drift scoring fair

Declare angle and duration limits

Configure a minimum drift angle, a minimum drift duration and the validation mode used by the HUD or leaderboard. These values define what counts as a scored drift, so they belong in the event rules rather than being hidden implementation details.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not merge different validation modes

Changing validation mode can change point calculations. Keep separate leaderboards for different modes and label each result with the mode, minimum angle and minimum duration used. A score earned under one validation model is not directly comparable with a score earned under another.

Test edge cases

  • Start a drift below the minimum angle and verify that it does not score prematurely.
  • Hold an angle for less than the minimum duration and confirm that the attempt is rejected or marked incomplete as intended.
  • Complete a valid run, spin, rejoin the line and check that the next attempt starts a new scoring segment.
  • Have two clients join and verify that both HUDs show the same validation state.

Prepare the driver’s client

Use Content Manager for joining

ACS Drift recommends Content Manager with a recommended CSP version. Players join through Content Manager’s Online tab; required cars and tracks may be fetched when available. Make sure the downloaded content matches the server’s checksum and CSP requirement before troubleshooting the server.

Apply the documented wheel baseline

The ACS Drift guide lists this starting point: Gain 100%, Min Force 0%, Effects 0%, Gyro ON and Soft Lock ON. Use it as a common reference before making personal adjustments. A driver who changes gain or effects substantially is changing steering feel, not server physics, so record those changes when comparing feedback.

Validate before opening the server publicly

  1. Launch AssettoServer from the Assetto Corsa server folder.
  2. Load the selected track, car list, Old or Green 95–97% surface and tyre-blanket setting.
  3. Confirm EnableAi: false for a pure drift room.
  4. Verify the ABS, traction-control and stability-control policy in the loaded configuration.
  5. Check that fuel, damage and tyre wear are each at 100% for the baseline stint.
  6. Confirm the minimum CSP requirement and the exact track-path syntax.
  7. Apply the angle, duration and validation rules, wait for confirmation and restart.
  8. Join with a normal driver account, not only an administrator account.
  9. Invite a second driver and test pit exit, tyre temperature, assists, contacts, penalties, voting, fuel, damage and tyre wear over a representative stint.
  10. Compare the two clients’ HUD and scoring output, then publish the server only if both receive the same rules.

Troubleshoot common failures

Clients receive a checksum error

First inspect the CSP track path. AssettoServer’s documented procedure changes only the first SURFACE_0 to CSPFACE_0; changing more surfaces can trigger checksum failures. Restore the additional entries, restart the server and have clients rescan the content.

Drivers report different grip leaving the pits

Confirm that tyre blankets are enabled and that every client is using the same track, CSP build and weather configuration. A cold-tyre client cannot be compared fairly with a client receiving the blanket baseline.

Scores cannot be compared

Check whether the validation mode, minimum angle or minimum duration changed between sessions. If any of those changed, keep the results in separate leaderboards rather than averaging them together.

Wrong-way or traffic penalties appear in a drift room

Verify that EnableAi: false was loaded after the restart. If AI is already disabled, inspect the track’s own directional or penalty behavior and test a spin-and-rejoin sequence with a second driver.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

One driver can use assists another cannot

Recheck whether the server is set to Factory, Off or Forced. Factory permits car-defined assistance, while Off and Forced are event policies. Publish one policy and restart before retesting.

Choose a preset by event goal

Event goal Assist policy Stability control Traffic Grip and consistency
Mixed public practice Factory ABS and traction control Optional for beginners Disabled Tyre blankets; Old or Green at 95–97%
Realistic competition Off, if required by the published rules Off Disabled Fixed surface, weather and CSP build
Strict spec event Forced, if the rules require one state Off Disabled Fixed surface, blankets and identical validation mode

The table describes policy choices, not separate physics packages. Keep the track, weather, CSP build and scoring model fixed whenever results are meant to be compared.

Game edition requirement

ACS Drift states that the Ultimate Edition includes all official DLC and is the easiest choice. Confirm the current edition contents and availability for your region before purchase, because marketplace bundles can change. The server still requires matching cars, tracks and CSP content on each client.

Operational checklist for every event

  • Write the grip percentage, surface state, weather, CSP build and scoring mode in the session announcement.
  • State whether ABS, traction control and stability control are Factory, Off or Forced.
  • Keep AI traffic disabled unless the room is explicitly a traffic format.
  • Use tyre blankets and begin at 100% fuel, damage and tyre wear.
  • Restart after edits and confirm that the running server loaded them.
  • Test with a normal account and a second driver before publishing results.
  • Keep leaderboards separate when validation mode or scoring thresholds differ.
