For the clearest rare-creature encounters in Aniimo, open Settings → Game and enable Auto Lock-On After Attack, set Always Follow the Locked-on Target to Chase Camera, turn on Auto-Adjust Camera When Not Locked On, enable Auto-Approach Target When Using Skills, and switch on the Target Lock-On Indicator Line. These options are listed as off by default. They keep a target visible and make movement easier to read, but they do not replace good approach timing: the strongest throws still come after you create an unaware, sleeping, broken, trapped, stationary, or otherwise exposed opening.
Recommended settings before you hunt
Rare Aniimo are easiest to lose when the camera drifts, the target leaves the center of the screen, or an attack breaks your visual tracking. The following setup is the best starting point for scouting and catching because it combines lock-on persistence, camera correction, approach assistance, and a visible line to the selected target.

Use the exact path Settings → Game. The official beginner guidance lists these controls there and indicates that they begin turned off. Change them before a rare-creature search rather than waiting until a target is already fleeing.
Set up the camera for aiming, not just combat
The objective is not to make the camera do everything. It is to keep the creature readable while you make the final approach, inspect the catch chance, and release an Aniipod. Chase Camera is most useful when you are moving around a target or circling behind it. The indicator line is particularly valuable when the creature crosses behind your character model or moves through an uneven area.

Controller setup and a common input failure
Aniimo supports PS5 and Xbox pads. If a connected controller appears powered but none of its commands work, open the Controls tab and manually select the active input device. This is a device-selection problem, not evidence that lock-on or throw timing is broken. Confirm the pad is the active device before changing your camera preferences or testing an Aniipod.
Why a rare Aniimo may not be present
Rare creatures do not have a separate, universally published capture route. Their availability can change with the in-game day-night cycle, weather, and special natural phenomena. A missing creature therefore does not automatically mean that you are standing at the wrong landmark or using the wrong throw.
Check the world state first
- Record the time of day when you search the area.
- Note the current weather and whether a special natural phenomenon is active.
- If the target is absent, leave the immediate area or continue play until the conditions change.
- Return under a different time, weather pattern, or phenomenon instead of repeatedly throwing at ordinary creatures in the same state.
This matters most for a creature you have already seen in that location. Repeating the same route under identical conditions can produce the same absence, no matter how well your camera is configured.

For a particularly rare target, keep a simple note of location, time, weather, phenomenon, and whether the creature was moving, feeding, resting, or asleep. The purpose is practical: it separates a spawn-condition problem from an aiming problem. Once you find the target, keep those conditions in mind for the next attempt rather than assuming the location alone controls availability.

Read the creature before you throw
The best throw is determined by the creature’s state and the catch chance shown by the aiming interface. There is no supported universal frame-perfect timing number for every Aniimo. A moving target can pause at a different moment from one encounter to the next, and a rare creature’s behavior is more useful than an arbitrary countdown.
States that create a favorable opening
- Unaware: the creature has not detected you and is not reacting to your approach.
- Sleeping: the target is stationary and especially exposed to a careful capture attempt.
- Broken: an opening created during combat leaves the creature vulnerable.
- Trapped: the target’s movement is constrained, making the trajectory easier to read.
- Stationary or resting: the creature has paused naturally instead of actively changing direction.
- Back-facing: approaching from behind can delay an alert and give you time to line up the pod.
These states are not interchangeable guarantees. They are opportunities to improve the attempt before you spend a pod. If the creature is alerted and sprinting, creating another opening is usually more valuable than throwing immediately.
Approach from cover or behind
Move without alerting the target whenever the terrain allows it. Cover and a rear approach reduce the chance that the creature will turn just as you begin aiming. When a direct approach is unavoidable, stop at a safe distance and watch one complete movement pattern before closing in. That reveals whether the creature patrols, pauses, feeds, or returns to a repeatable resting point.
How to time the Aniipod throw
Use this sequence for ordinary and rare encounters. It deliberately puts observation and chance inspection before the throw button.

- Identify the failure you are solving. Decide whether the problem is low odds, long distance, movement, a Wild Surge, or the risk of losing an irreplaceable target. Start with the cheapest Aniipod that could plausibly work.
- Stabilize the encounter. Approach from cover or behind. If necessary, weaken the creature, create a BREAK opening, wait for sleep, or use another state that leaves it exposed.
- Lock and center the target. Use the lock-on options above and keep the creature in a readable part of the screen. Turn until the trajectory is clear of terrain and other visual clutter.
- Aim and inspect the displayed chance. The aiming UI shows the current catch chance. Treat that value as the immediate decision signal; a reticle placed over the creature is not enough by itself.
- Wait for a predictable movement point. A pause, the end of a repeated patrol, a break, sleep, a trap, or a back-facing moment is preferable to a sudden side-step.
- Throw only when the path is readable. Confirm that the target will still occupy the intended line when the pod reaches it, then commit.
- Escalate only after diagnosing the miss. If the attempt fails, determine whether the cause was low chance, distance, movement, a Wild Surge, or an alert state before spending a stronger pod.
What the displayed chance means
The aiming interface shows an exact catch chance for the current attempt, according to the wild-capture guidance. Any value below 100% can still fail. A high number is therefore a reason to throw when the target is exposed, not a promise that the capture will succeed. If the percentage is lower than you can accept for a rare or irreplaceable creature, improve the state or change the pod before committing.
When a moving target is worth the risk
Throw at the end of a repeated motion rather than during a direction change. A creature that walks left, pauses, and turns is easier to predict at the pause than halfway through the turn. If its movement is irregular, let it settle into sleep, rest, a break, or a trap. The game does not establish one universal timing number, so the correct cue is the combination of readable behavior and the chance shown on screen.
Choosing the right pod
Pod strength should solve a known problem. Do not spend a rare pod merely because the creature looks valuable. Begin with a basic Aniipod for an ordinary attempt, then move to a stronger or specialized option when the situation calls for it.

This approach preserves scarce resources while still giving you an escalation plan. A failed basic attempt provides information about the encounter; it does not automatically mean the rarest pod is required.

Tumbler
The Tumbler is described as a rolling, multi-catch pod. Its defining use is not simply “stronger capture”; it is a rolling design intended to affect multiple catches. Treat it as a specialized resource and use it when that multi-catch behavior is relevant, rather than as the default answer to every rare sighting.
Cube and Sparkling Cube
The beginner guidance describes the Cube and Sparkling Cube as extremely rare options associated with guaranteed capture, Perfect potential, and Sparkling form. Because these are in-game resources, reserve them for a target and outcome that justify their scarcity. Do not infer that every rare-looking creature requires one; first improve the encounter and inspect the displayed chance.
A complete rare-creature hunting routine
Before leaving for the area
- Open Settings → Game and apply the recommended lock-on and camera options.
- Open Controls and verify that the active device is your PS5 or Xbox pad if you are using one.
- Carry basic pods for ordinary attempts and keep stronger or specialized pods available for a diagnosed problem.
- Decide whether the target is replaceable. That determines how much risk you should accept when the chance is below 100%.
When you arrive
- Check the time of day, weather, and any special natural phenomenon.
- Search from cover instead of running directly through the area.
- Watch the creature’s movement, feeding, and resting pattern before you attack or aim.
- Let the lock-on line and chase camera keep the target visible while you reposition.
During the capture attempt
- Approach from behind or while the target is unaware.
- Weaken it or create a BREAK opening when doing so is safe and useful.
- Wait for sleep, rest, a trap, a pause, or another predictable state.
- Select the least expensive pod that addresses the remaining issue.
- Aim until the chance and trajectory are both acceptable.
- Throw at the predictable point, not simply because the reticle overlaps the creature.
After a failed attempt
- If the target moved, improve the approach and wait for a better pause.
- If the chance was low, weaken or break the creature further where appropriate, then reassess.
- If distance caused the problem, close the gap before upgrading unnecessarily.
- If a Wild Surge or another special condition is involved, choose a pod intended for that difficulty.
- If the creature vanished, check world conditions before assuming the encounter was permanently lost.
Troubleshooting camera, lock-on, and throws
The target keeps leaving the screen
Confirm that Always Follow the Locked-on Target is set to Chase Camera, then turn on Auto Lock-On After Attack and the Target Lock-On Indicator Line. If you are not locked on, enable Auto-Adjust Camera When Not Locked On. These settings address visibility; they do not make an alerted creature stop moving, so combine them with a pause or stealth approach.
The skill or attack does not close the distance
Enable Auto-Approach Target When Using Skills. This helps with the gap between you and a selected target when a skill is used. It is still important to inspect the throw trajectory afterward; an approach assist is not the same as a guaranteed capture.

The controller is connected but unresponsive
Go to the Controls tab and manually switch the active input device to the connected PS5 or Xbox controller. Test movement and aiming before returning to the creature. Changing capture tactics cannot correct an input device that the game has not selected.
The target is visible but the throw fails
Check the displayed catch chance and the creature’s state. A value below 100% can fail even when the reticle is correctly placed. Improve the state, shorten the distance, wait for predictable movement, or choose a pod that addresses the specific failure mode. Avoid changing several variables at once if you want to learn what caused the miss.
The rare creature never appears
Recheck the day-night cycle, weather, and special natural phenomena. These conditions can change availability. Return under a different world state and keep the location constant so you can distinguish a condition change from a route mistake.

The practical decision rule
Use the settings to keep the target visible, use behavior to create the opening, and use the displayed chance to decide whether the attempt is acceptable. If any one of those three is poor, delay the throw:
- Visibility problem: fix lock-on, camera, or input selection.
- Behavior problem: hide, approach from behind, weaken, break, trap, or wait for sleep or rest.
- Chance problem: improve the target’s state, reduce distance, or select a pod designed for the actual difficulty.
Throw when the target’s movement is predictable and the chance shown by the aiming UI matches the risk you are willing to take. That method is more reliable than chasing a supposed universal timing window, especially for rare creatures whose availability and behavior can change with world conditions.
