Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor a cleaner Pixel home screen, you may not need a new launcher. Start with Pixel’s built-in appearance controls if you want a modest cleanup. If you want a replacement, Lawnchair is the closest fit for a Pixel-like layout with extra controls, Niagara is for a deliberately minimal app list, and Nova is for extensive customization of a familiar grid. Which one suits you depends on how much you want to change—not on a proven speed or battery ranking.
Choose based on how you want to use your home screen
| Option | Best for | What sets it apart | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pixel Launcher | A cleaner screen with little setup | Built-in theme, color, icon, and layout controls | Some controls depend on your Android version; Android Central reports that Android 17 adds an option to hide home-screen app names. |
| Lawnchair | A Pixel-derived look with more customization | Built on Launcher3 and designed to bring Pixel Launcher features with added controls | Lawnchair 16 is in development; features can differ between Play Store and development builds. |
| Niagara | Minimalism and quick access to apps | Replaces the conventional grid with an app list and wave alphabet navigation | It is a different way to use a home screen, and some customization features require Pro. |
| Nova | Fine-grained control while keeping a familiar layout | Controls for the desktop, app drawer, dock, folders, icons, and backup and restore | Some features, including gestures, notification badges, and drawer folders, are listed as Prime features. Check current purchase details. |
Can Pixel’s built-in launcher make your screen cleaner?
Yes. Try the built-in options first if your goal is a less cluttered look rather than a different home-screen system. Pixel’s Wallpaper & style settings include controls for themes, colors, icons, and layout. Android Central’s guide also reports that Android 17 adds a Names control in icon settings to hide labels on the home screen; app names remain visible in the app drawer. The Android 17 detail is version-dependent, so check whether your Pixel has that software and control: Android Central’s Pixel guide to hiding app names.

This is the simplest choice if you want to make a few visual adjustments while keeping the default Pixel experience. If you want more control over the layout or a substantially different way of opening apps, consider a replacement.
Which launcher fits your preferences?
Lawnchair: Pixel-like, with extra customization
Lawnchair’s project describes it as a free, open-source Android home app based on Launcher3 that ports Pixel Launcher features and adds customization. Its listed features include Material 3 Expressive theming, At a Glance support, global search, and controls for icon packs, fonts, and colors. That makes it the closest match here if you want to keep a Pixel-derived feel while gaining more ways to tune the home screen.
#1 Best Overall
- - Easily manage and organize installed apps with the built-in app manager.
- - Quickly favorite and launch your most-used apps using the app launcher.
- - Enjoy a clean, user-friendly design for seamless navigation.
- - Lightweight and optimized for fast performance on any Android device.
Build channel matters: the project marks Lawnchair 16 as in development and documents differences between Play Store and development builds. It says Play Store features may be restricted by publishing rules, while development builds can bring newer features and fixes with a risk of performance problems or other issues. Review the project’s current notes before choosing a build: Lawnchair project and build information.
Niagara: a list instead of a grid
Niagara’s central distinction is its layout. Rather than arranging apps in a conventional grid, it presents a streamlined app list with a wave alphabet for finding apps. The official listing also describes themes, custom icons and fonts, dynamic theming, notifications, calendar and weather widgets, widget stacks, pop-up folders, gestures, search, usage reminders, and backup and restore.
Rank #2
- Effortlessly browse and organize all installed apps on your * * Amazon Fire tablet.
- Quickly favorite and launch your most-used apps with a single tap.
- Enjoy a sleek, intuitive interface for smooth and easy navigation.
- Lightweight and optimized for fast, reliable performance.
Niagara offers free and Pro tiers. Its site lists expanded appearance options, widgets, pop-up folders, and widget stacks among Pro features. The site displayed $24.99 per year or $74.99 for a lifetime purchase when checked on October 4, 2026; pricing can change, so verify the current offer and feature split on Niagara’s official site. The official Google Play listing provides its feature description.
Choose Niagara if you actively want the list-based approach, not just a grid with fewer icons. Its layout changes how you browse and open apps, so it is worth trying the free version before paying for Pro.

What to check before replacing Pixel Launcher
Launcher features and behavior can differ by app build, Android release, and Pixel software version. Before settling on a replacement, check the version and distribution channel, then try the parts of the experience you rely on day to day.
- Confirm the build and feature tier. Check whether a feature is in the free version, a paid tier, a Play Store build, or a development build.
- Try your everyday navigation. Test opening apps, searching, widgets, folders, and any gestures you regularly use on your Pixel.
- Check integration on your device. Verify that the launcher works as expected with your Android and Pixel software versions before spending time recreating your layout.
- Keep a return path. If you are experimenting with a replacement, confirm how to select Pixel Launcher again and whether the new app offers backup and restore for its own layout.
There is no controlled, current Pixel-specific comparison here for speed, battery life, reliability, or system gesture and recents behavior. Feature lists describe what the apps offer; they do not establish which one runs best on your particular device.
