Best AMD Adrenalin Settings for the Radeon RX 9070 XT

There is no universal best setting for the RX 9070 XT. Start with HYPR-RX if you want a quick baseline, use per-game profiles for exceptions, prefer in-game FSR, and test any manual tuning carefully.

There is no single best Adrenalin configuration for every Radeon RX 9070 XT: the right choices depend on the game, display, and whether you value image quality, low latency, smoothness, or quieter operation. For a quick starting point, try AMD’s RX 9070 Series HYPR-RX profile, then adjust individual games as needed. Keep GPU tuning at its default unless you are prepared to test stability.

Start with the right driver and profile

Check the RX 9070 XT driver page

AMD’s model-specific driver listing, checked October 4, 2026, showed Adrenalin 26.9.2 WHQL Optional, dated September 29, 2026, and 26.8.1 WHQL Recommended, dated August 20, 2026. Those labels are not interchangeable: the newest listing is Optional, while the Recommended release is older. Check the RX 9070 XT driver page again before installing, since available releases can change.

Use HYPR-RX as a starting point, not a verdict

AMD says RX 9070 Series cards support HYPR-RX, introduced in Adrenalin 25.6.1. In supported games, the profile can automatically apply recommended graphics settings, and you can customize those settings. It is a convenient baseline—not proof that every enabled feature suits every game or player. AMD’s guidance is that “For most users, the predefined settings for each profile offer the best mix of visual quality and performance specific for that purpose.” See AMD’s RX 9070 Series HYPR-RX information.

Keep a global baseline and make exceptions per game

Adrenalin offers global graphics settings and application profiles. Global changes apply to desktop games and applications at launch; an individual game profile can override them. Use global settings for choices you want broadly, and create or adjust a per-game profile when a title has different needs. This avoids turning every toggle on globally and then troubleshooting conflicts. AMD explains the controls in Customize Graphics Settings with AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition.

Choose graphics features by the result you want

These controls solve different problems, so treat them as options rather than a mandatory bundle:

Setting What it does When to consider it
Radeon Anti-Lag Dynamically adjusts frame timing. Consider it when reducing input latency is a priority.
Radeon Boost Changes resolution in supported games in response to user input. Consider it if you want performance gains in a supported title and accept resolution changes during play.
Radeon Chill Regulates frame rate to reduce power and heat. Consider it when lower power or heat matters more than maximizing frame rate.
Radeon Image Sharpening Enhances visual detail. Consider it if the image looks soft and you prefer added sharpening.
Enhanced Sync Provides an alternative synchronization mode. Try it as a per-game synchronization choice if it suits your display and results.
VSync Synchronizes frame rate with monitor refresh. Use it when synchronization is your priority; note that AMD’s documented AFMF setup calls for VSync off both in-game and in the driver.

AMD documents these functions in its graphics settings guide. Their effects can interact: for example, Radeon Super Resolution disables some features, including Radeon Chill and Image Sharpening.

Use in-game FSR first; reserve RSR for games without it

When a game offers integrated FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), AMD recommends using the game’s implementation. It can be optimized for that title and may produce better results than driver-level Radeon Super Resolution (RSR). Avoid stacking RSR on top of in-game FSR as a blanket setting.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

RSR is primarily intended for games without integrated upscaling. It activates when the game is running below the monitor’s native resolution. Because enabling RSR disables some other features—including Radeon Chill, Radeon Image Sharpening, and Integer Scaling—choose the upscaling method separately for each game. AMD’s explanation is in its Radeon Super Resolution FAQ.

Enable AFMF 2.1 with its requirements in mind

AMD documents AFMF 2.1 as available through HYPR-RX on RX 7000 Series and newer, or as a manual setting in Graphics, either globally or in an individual game profile. AMD lists these requirements and conditions for RX 7000 Series and newer:

  • Adrenalin 25.3.1 or newer, with Windows 10 or Windows 11.
  • A DirectX 11 or 12, Vulkan, or OpenGL game.
  • VSync disabled in both the driver and the game.
  • HYPR-RX or borderless full-screen support, as documented for these cards.

AMD recommends a FreeSync monitor. These are AMD’s documented setup details, not a guarantee that every game or display will behave identically. See the AMD Fluid Motion Frames FAQ.

Understand what frame generation changes

AFMF generates frames; a displayed frame-rate figure that includes generated frames is not the same as the game’s underlying rendered frame rate. Frame generation can improve perceived smoothness, but it should not be treated as a promise of lower input latency. AMD’s older AFMF release notes recommended enabling Anti-Lag and maintaining at least 60 in-game FPS. That is earlier guidance, not a current hard requirement established for every AFMF 2.1 setup; check behavior in the game and driver you use. The historical recommendation appears in AMD’s AFMF release notes.

Tune clocks, voltage, power, and fans cautiously

Adrenalin may offer automatic tuning options such as Default, Undervolt GPU, Overclock GPU, and Overclock VRAM, plus Quiet, Balanced, and Rage presets on supported products. Manual controls can include GPU frequency and voltage, VRAM frequency, fan curve, and power limit. AMD says a higher power limit can allow more performance headroom, and global tuning changes apply globally. These controls expose trade-offs: more headroom can mean more power, heat, or noise, while quieter operation can constrain performance.

No cited official guidance establishes one RX 9070 XT-wide undervolt, clock, or fan curve as best. Card designs and system behavior vary, so treat automatic undervolting as an experiment rather than a guaranteed improvement. Change one thing at a time, save and test it, and monitor temperature and stability rather than copying universal numeric values.

Use the built-in stability test

Adrenalin includes a Stress Test for checking whether current tuning settings are stable. AMD says a failed test that crashes or reboots resets tuning settings to defaults. Read AMD’s GPU tuning guidance before changing controls, and use the stress test as a check—not a substitute for confirming stability in the games and workloads you actually run.

What AMD’s HYPR-RX performance figures do—and do not—show

AMD published RX 9070 XT comparisons in February 2025 for HYPR-RX with AFMF 2.1 against HYPR-RX off. Its examples reported 2.6× FPS in Baldur’s Gate 3 at 4K, Very High; 2.8× in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 at 4K, Ultra; and 2.9× in Star Citizen at 4K, Very High. AMD’s footnotes describe an internal Adrenalin driver build and a system with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 32 GB DDR5-6000, an MSI MEG X670E ACE motherboard, and Windows 11 Pro; game and settings differed by result. These are AMD’s vendor test figures, not independent benchmarks or a prediction for every owner. The examples and test details are on AMD’s HYPR-RX page.

A practical setup sequence

  1. Open AMD’s RX 9070 XT driver page and choose a release with its Optional or Recommended label understood.
  2. In Adrenalin, start with the RX 9070 Series HYPR-RX profile if you want a quick supported-game baseline.
  3. Keep global graphics choices conservative; open the relevant game’s application profile to change settings that do not suit that title.
  4. Choose the game’s integrated FSR when available. Use RSR mainly when the game lacks integrated upscaling and you want driver-level upscaling.
  5. Enable AFMF 2.1 only after checking its driver, OS, API, VSync, and display considerations.
  6. Leave GPU tuning at Default unless you want to experiment. Test each change with Adrenalin’s Stress Test and your normal games.
