Best alternatives to the Naim Mu-so Utopia for premium wireless sound

Best overall alternative: Sonus faber Duetto is the closest match if you want genuinely separated stereo, premium cabinetry, HDMI ARC/eARC, phono and broad streaming support. Choose Devialet Gold Phantom for the biggest output from compact cabinets, McIntosh RS250 for the most complete TV-and-vinyl connectivity in one enclosure, or Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin when a simpler one-box system around $800 makes more sense.

Naim’s Mu-so Utopia remains the reference here: a 720-watt, 15-driver, Dolby Atmos-compatible all-in-one rated at 109 dB peak SPL. The alternatives do not duplicate that exact combination, so the right choice depends on whether your priority is stereo width, impact, inputs, design or price.

How the alternatives compare at a glance

The table separates published specifications from features that were not stated on the manufacturers’ cited 2026 pages. Power figures are not directly comparable: Devialet quotes peak amplification for a pair, while Naim and McIntosh quote system power and Sonus faber gives amplifier ratings per speaker.

What the Mu-so Utopia is actually setting as the benchmark

Naim describes Mu-so Utopia as its most sophisticated all-in-one system. Its published specification combines 720 watts, 15 speaker drivers and Dolby Atmos compatibility in one chassis. Naim lists a 30 Hz–20 kHz response within +/-3 dB, a 25 Hz low-frequency point at -6 dB and 109 dB peak SPL. Those numbers explain why it is difficult to replace with a product that merely has a similar app or a comparable price.

There are three separate ambitions in that design. First, it is a single-box installation: you do not have to find positions for left and right cabinets or run a speaker cable between them. Second, it aims for cinema-compatible spatial presentation as well as music playback. Third, its output and low-frequency specification are closer to high-end hi-fi than to a typical lifestyle speaker.

An alternative can beat Mu-so Utopia in one dimension while giving up another. A true stereo pair can create more convincing left-right separation, but it occupies more space. A compact system can produce extreme impact, but its inputs may be less useful for vinyl or a television. A less expensive one-box speaker can preserve convenience without matching the reference system’s power, driver count or Atmos capability.

Sonus faber Duetto: the closest choice for true stereo

Why it is the leading alternative

Duetto is an active two-speaker system rather than a single cabinet attempting to create a wide image. That physical separation is its central advantage. If your listening position is in front of the speakers and you care about vocal placement, orchestral width or a stable center image, two cabinets give you a more conventional stereo foundation than any one-box design.

Sonus faber publishes 37 Hz–30 kHz response and 105 dB SPL at 1 meter. Each speaker uses 100 watts of Class AB amplification for its tweeter and 250 watts of Class D amplification for its mid/woofer section. These are per-speaker figures, so do not read the 250-watt number as the total system rating or compare it directly with Naim’s 720-watt system figure.

Inputs and streaming

Duetto has the broadest explicitly listed input set in this shortlist. It includes RCA line/phono, optical, HDMI ARC/eARC and a subwoofer output. For network playback, Sonus faber lists AirPlay 2, Chromecast built-in, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect and Roon Ready, plus Bluetooth aptX HD.

Anker USB-C Hub, 5-in-1 USB Hub for Laptops, 4K HDMI Multiport Adapter | USB C Dongle with 90W Max Power Delivery, 3×5Gbps USB A Data Ports, for MacBook, Dell, and More (Charger Not Included)
  • 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
  • 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
  • Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
  • 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

That combination makes Duetto unusually adaptable. A television can use HDMI ARC/eARC, a turntable can use the RCA phono connection if it has the appropriate output, and a separate subwoofer can be added through the dedicated output. The streaming list also covers Apple devices, Google casting, direct Spotify and TIDAL hand-off, and Roon-based libraries without requiring separate boxes.

Price and compromises

Sonus faber lists Duetto at $3,999 per pair on its 2026 US wireless collection page. It costs less than the Mu-so Utopia’s launch positioning while remaining a substantial premium purchase. You are paying for two enclosures, so budget for stands or furniture space and for a layout that keeps the left and right speakers meaningfully separated.

Choose Duetto when stereo separation and physical connectivity matter more than having one sculptural cabinet. It is not the best answer if your room only permits a single shelf position or if Dolby Atmos compatibility is the deciding feature.

Devialet Gold Phantom stereo: maximum impact in compact cabinets

What the numbers mean

Devialet’s US page lists a $2,990 price for a stereo pair, with 2 x 4,500 watts of peak amplification and 111 dB SPL at 1 meter. The peak qualification is important: it describes the system’s maximum amplification claim, not a continuous-power rating that can be compared one-for-one with Naim’s 720 watts or McIntosh’s 650 watts.

The 111 dB figure is the highest stated SPL in this group. That makes Gold Phantom the output-first option for listeners who want physical scale and impact from relatively small spherical enclosures. It is a compelling fit for large rooms, parties or electronic and cinematic material where sudden bass and high playback levels are part of the experience.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Connectivity and design trade-offs

The stereo pair supports Wi-Fi, AirPlay, Bluetooth, Spotify Connect, optical and UPnP. That covers common wireless services, local-network playback and a digital optical source. The cited specification does not list HDMI ARC/eARC, a phono input or a subwoofer output, so buyers with a television, turntable or bass-extension plan should verify the exact connection method before ordering.

  • Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
  • Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
  • Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

Gold Phantom is also visually and architecturally different from conventional hi-fi. The spherical pair is a deliberate design statement rather than two rectangular bookshelf speakers. That can be an advantage in a modern room, but it means the system presents a different furniture and placement proposition from Duetto or RS250.

Select Gold Phantom when maximum stated output and compact, sculptural hardware outrank analog inputs and home-cinema connectivity. At $2,990 for two speakers, it is less expensive than Duetto’s listed pair price, but its feature mix is narrower.

McIntosh RS250: the connectivity specialist

One cabinet, but built around real components

McIntosh positions RS250 as a stand-alone stereo wireless system and quotes 650 watts total. Unlike a minimalist lifestyle speaker, it is designed to serve as the hub for several source types. Its published connections include HDMI ARC, optical, moving-magnet phono, auxiliary, headphone and subwoofer outputs.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That list directly addresses the most common reasons people outgrow a wireless speaker. HDMI ARC handles a compatible television, moving-magnet phono accepts a conventional MM turntable cartridge, the auxiliary input covers an additional analog source, a headphone connection supports private listening, and the subwoofer output leaves room for future bass expansion.

Streaming, networking and control options

RS250 supports Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Chromecast, Roon Ready, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Ethernet. Ethernet is especially relevant if the system will live near a network socket or in a congested wireless environment. Roon Ready status is useful for listeners who already organize a library in Roon, while the casting and direct-connect options cover more casual phone playback.

Dealer and warranty conditions

McIntosh’s US policy says new RS250 units may be sold online only by specifically authorized US dealers. The same policy warns that purchases from unauthorized sellers or used units can void the manufacturer warranty. The official product page routes buyers to dealers rather than publishing a current US MSRP, so request a written price, stock confirmation and warranty terms from an authorized seller before committing.

RS250 is the best fit when one premium component must handle TV sound, vinyl, network streaming and a possible subwoofer. Its 650-watt figure is below Naim’s published 720 watts, and the cited material does not provide an RS250 frequency-response range, so choose it for its system integration rather than a paper specification contest.

Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin: the sensible lower-cost one-box option

What you get for $799

Bowers & Wilkins lists Zeppelin at $799 on its US page. It is the least expensive product in this comparison by a wide margin and the simplest route to a visually distinctive wireless speaker from a major hi-fi brand.

The published frequency response is 35 Hz–24 kHz. Zeppelin supports AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect and Bluetooth, while the Bowers & Wilkins Music app provides access to Deezer, Qobuz and TIDAL. That is a broad mainstream streaming selection for a single cabinet and should cover most phone-based listening without an external streamer.

Where it falls short of the flagships

The cited page does not state an amplifier-power or maximum-SPL figure, so it cannot be ranked honestly against Mu-so Utopia, Gold Phantom or RS250 on output. It also does not list the HDMI ARC/eARC, phono or subwoofer connections found on Duetto and RS250. If your system must combine a television and turntable, those omissions may matter more than the lower price.

Choose Zeppelin when you value one-box simplicity, recognizable design and mainstream streaming around an $800 budget. It is a value alternative, not a specification-for-specification replacement for Naim’s flagship.

Single box or stereo pair?

Choose one cabinet when convenience is the constraint

  • Your room has one suitable shelf, console or sideboard position.
  • You want the shortest installation with no second cabinet to place.
  • Dolby Atmos or a single-chassis presentation is more important than conventional left-right separation.
  • You prefer a self-contained system for casual listening and television use.

Mu-so Utopia, RS250 and Zeppelin are the one-box choices here. Each uses a different performance and feature strategy: Naim emphasizes output, drivers and Atmos compatibility; McIntosh emphasizes source integration; Bowers & Wilkins emphasizes accessible streaming and price.

Choose two speakers when imaging is the priority

  • Your seating position allows meaningful distance between left and right speakers.
  • You listen critically to music where center focus and stereo width matter.
  • You are comfortable allocating space and power to two cabinets.
  • You want the option to adjust speaker spacing rather than relying on one enclosure’s internal processing.

Duetto and Gold Phantom are both stereo-pair purchases, but they target different priorities. Duetto supplies the more extensive analog and TV connections; Gold Phantom supplies the higher stated SPL and peak-amplification claim.

Which system is best for each source?

Your main source or use Best match Reason Check before purchase
Turntable with a moving-magnet cartridge McIntosh RS250 It explicitly includes a moving-magnet phono input. Confirm your cartridge is MM; Duetto lists RCA line/phono, but the exact phono implementation should be confirmed for your turntable.
TV with HDMI ARC/eARC Sonus faber Duetto or McIntosh RS250 Both explicitly list HDMI ARC/eARC. Verify the television’s ARC/eARC port and cable requirements.
Very high playback levels Devialet Gold Phantom stereo 111 dB SPL at 1 meter is the highest stated output figure in the shortlist. Remember that Devialet’s 4,500-watt figures are peak amplification claims for the pair.
Roon-based library Duetto or RS250 Both are listed as Roon Ready. Confirm current software compatibility in your region.
Apple AirPlay 2 household Any of the four alternatives Duetto, RS250 and Zeppelin list AirPlay 2; Devialet lists AirPlay. Devialet’s cited page does not use the AirPlay 2 designation, so check the current specification if that exact version matters.
Lowest purchase price Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Its listed US price is $799. It does not list HDMI or phono inputs, and power is not stated.

How to make the decision without overvaluing a single specification

  1. Decide whether the installation is one-box or stereo. Eliminate Duetto and Gold Phantom if two cabinets cannot be placed properly; eliminate the one-box models if separated imaging is non-negotiable.
  2. List every wired source you will use. For a television, look for HDMI ARC/eARC. For vinyl, look for a phono input or plan for the correct external phono stage. For future bass extension, require a subwoofer output.
  3. Set a real budget in the currency and region where you will buy. The cited prices are US listings in 2026: $799 for Zeppelin, $2,990 for a Gold Phantom pair and $3,999 for Duetto. RS250 requires a dealer quote.
  4. Use output figures only within their qualifications. Gold Phantom’s 111 dB at 1 meter and 2 x 4,500-watt peak claim describe a pair and peak performance. Naim’s 109 dB is peak SPL, while RS250’s 650 watts and Duetto’s per-speaker amplifier ratings use different conventions.
  5. Check the sales channel. McIntosh warranty coverage depends on buying new RS250 hardware through a specifically authorized US dealer. Keep the invoice and confirm authorization before payment.
  6. Recheck the live product page. Manufacturers can change price, stock, software support and regional availability. Treat the figures in this guide as the 2026 listings identified above, not as guaranteed future pricing.

Final recommendations by buyer type

Best overall Mu-so Utopia alternative: Sonus faber Duetto

Duetto is the strongest all-round recommendation when “alternative” means a premium system rather than merely a cheaper wireless speaker. It supplies true stereo, a high-end two-speaker presentation, HDMI ARC/eARC, RCA line/phono, a subwoofer output and an unusually broad list of streaming protocols. Its $3,999-per-pair price is substantial, but its architecture and inputs address the most common reasons to move beyond an all-in-one system.

Best for maximum compact impact: Devialet Gold Phantom stereo

Choose the $2,990 pair when output and physical impact dominate your priorities. The 111 dB SPL at 1 meter is the highest published figure here, and the spherical design is far more compact and visually distinctive than conventional stereo cabinets. Accept the narrower cited input list and the lack of a stated frequency-response figure.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Best for TV, vinyl and network sources: McIntosh RS250

RS250 is the practical specialist. HDMI ARC, moving-magnet phono, optical, auxiliary, headphone and subwoofer connections sit alongside AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Chromecast, Roon Ready, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Ethernet. Buy only after confirming an authorized US dealer, current price and warranty coverage.

Best value and simplest installation: Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin

At $799, Zeppelin is the sensible choice when the goal is a good-looking, mainstream streaming speaker rather than a flagship replacement. Its 35 Hz–24 kHz specification and wide app-based service support are useful, but the cited page does not provide power, HDMI, phono or subwoofer specifications.

When to stay with Mu-so Utopia

Keep Naim’s system as the benchmark if you specifically want a single premium chassis, Dolby Atmos compatibility, 720 watts, 15 drivers and the published 109 dB peak-SPL capability, along with Naim/Focal processing and room-adaptation features identified for the platform. None of the alternatives reproduces every one of those attributes in the same enclosure.
