Best overall alternative: the Hisense C2 Ultra is the closest one-box replacement for the JMGO N3 Ultimate, combining 4K, living-room-friendly brightness, Dolby Vision support, HDMI 2.1 features and high-refresh gaming. Choose the BenQ X3100i if responsive 1080p/240Hz play matters more than maximum brightness, the Epson Pro Cinema LS12000 for a permanent dark-room theater with 4K/120Hz, the BenQ GP520 for a lower-cost 4K/60Hz setup, or the XGIMI HORIZON 20 when placement flexibility is your main constraint.
The right choice depends on the resolution at which you actually play. A projector advertised as 240Hz generally reaches that rate at 1080p, not 4K. Conversely, a model that accepts 4K/120Hz may not render every frame with equal clarity. The comparisons below separate those modes instead of treating one headline refresh number as universal.

Quick picks
| Best for | Projector | Why it stands out | Main compromise |
|---|---|---|---|
| Closest all-round replacement | Hisense C2 Ultra | 4K, HDMI 2.1 with ALLM and eARC, 4K/60Hz, 2K/240Hz, Dolby Vision support and JBL 2×10W plus 20W audio | Regional firmware, smart-platform details and some HDMI behavior need checking |
| Competitive gaming | BenQ X3100i | 16.7ms at 4K/60Hz, 8.3ms at 1080p/120Hz and 4.2ms at 1080p/240Hz, with dedicated game modes | Prioritizes latency over the N3 Ultimate’s very high brightness |
| Dedicated theater and 4K/120Hz | Epson Pro Cinema LS12000 | 4K support, dual HDMI 2.1 inputs and 4K/120Hz capability in a movie-focused installation projector | Best suited to a controlled, darker room and permanent mounting |
| Value | BenQ GP520 | 4K/60Hz, HDMI 2.1 inputs and ALLM in a simpler, less expensive design | 60Hz ceiling and 81% DCI-P3 coverage limit high-refresh and wide-gamut ambitions |
| Difficult placement | XGIMI HORIZON 20 | 4K, eARC, low stated gaming latency, broad electronic lens-shift adjustment and a 1.2–1.5:1 throw ratio | Its convenience features do not establish a 4K/120Hz or 1080p/240Hz mode |
What the JMGO N3 Ultimate does well—and where alternatives improve it
JMGO lists the N3 Ultimate at 5,800 ISO lumens, 20,000:1 FOFO contrast, 4K UHD resolution and 110% of the BT.2020 color gamut. It supports Dolby Vision and HDR10, has a 0.88–1.7:1 optical zoom, dual HDMI 2.1 (with one eARC port), Google TV with native Netflix, a 40–300-inch stated image range and 25W total stereo output. The official store also advertises 240Hz refresh, VRR and 1ms input lag.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Those figures make the N3 Ultimate unusually flexible on paper: the optical zoom helps with installation, the brightness is intended for rooms with some ambient light, and the wide color claim targets HDR movies as well as games. Its headline gaming numbers need context, however. An independent review describes it as solid for most uses and especially gaming, while finding that 1080p VRR can become messy near the top of its range and that 4K/120Hz is accepted but not displayed perfectly. If you want flawless high-refresh behavior, select a projector whose tested mode matches your console and resolution rather than relying on the N3’s 1ms or 240Hz headline.

Hisense C2 Ultra: the closest all-round substitute
The C2 Ultra best matches the N3 Ultimate’s mixed-use brief. Its 3840×2160 output, HDMI 2.1 connection with ALLM and eARC, and documented 4K/60Hz and 2K/240Hz modes cover both console compatibility and high-refresh play. Dolby Vision support makes it attractive for streaming movies, while the built-in JBL system combines two 10W drivers with a 20W unit—more substantial on paper than a basic projector speaker system.
For a bright living room, this is the model to investigate first, but do not compare an unreported C2 Ultra lumen figure directly with the N3’s 5,800 ISO lumens. Check the exact regional model, firmware, smart interface and HDMI menu before ordering; specifications and app availability can differ between markets. Confirm that your console can select the intended 2K/240Hz mode and that the projector’s HDMI port exposes ALLM and eARC in your region.

Who should choose it
- Families wanting one projector for streamed Dolby Vision movies, sports and console gaming.
- Owners who prefer built-in sound powerful enough for casual viewing without immediately adding an AV receiver.
- Gamers who accept 4K/60Hz for full-resolution play but want a 2K/240Hz option for competitive titles.
BenQ X3100i: the gaming-first alternative
The X3100i is the clearest choice when controller response outranks brightness and cinematic flexibility. BenQ lists 16.7ms input lag at 4K/60Hz, 8.3ms at 1080p/120Hz and 4.2ms at 1080p/240Hz. Those are resolution-specific figures, so they should be read as three different operating modes rather than one universal latency rating. Its FPS, RPG and SPG game modes tune the picture for different genres, and eARC simplifies connection to a soundbar or receiver.

Competitive players should set the console or PC to the mode the projector handles best, then verify that image processing features have not raised latency. A 1080p/240Hz signal can feel more responsive than 4K/60Hz, but it also sacrifices detail. For single-player games and films, 4K/60Hz is the more sensible default.
Trade-offs versus the N3 Ultimate
- The X3100i offers clearly documented low-latency modes, especially at 1080p, instead of relying on a single advertised 1ms claim.
- Its brightness, contrast, HDR formats, lens flexibility and speaker output are not stated in the available specifications, so the N3 remains the safer choice when those published capabilities are priorities.
- VRR and the full HDMI 2.1 feature set are not established here; check the current regional manual if VRR is essential.
Epson Pro Cinema LS12000: for a permanent theater and 4K/120Hz
The LS12000 takes a different approach from lifestyle projectors. It is designed for a dedicated installation and controlled lighting, where a proper screen, seating distance and light control matter more than portability. It supports 4K and 4K/120Hz, and it has two HDMI 2.1 inputs, with one providing eARC/ARC. That makes it the strongest pick in this group for a movie-led room whose owner still wants next-generation console output at 120Hz.
Plan this projector as part of a room rather than as a device to move between tables. Measure the mounting position, screen size and cable route first. A dark, neutral room will preserve black-level detail and HDR contrast better than a bright multipurpose space. The LS12000 is a poor fit if you need built-in streaming apps, quick automatic setup or a small temporary footprint; the available specifications do not establish its smart-TV or Netflix certification.
Best use case
Choose the LS12000 for a fixed-frame screen, an AV receiver or soundbar, and a room where movie immersion is more important than integrated convenience. Its 4K/120Hz support directly addresses the N3 review’s caveat about imperfect 4K/120Hz presentation.

BenQ GP520: the value and simplicity option
The GP520 is the sensible choice when the budget is tighter and 4K/60Hz is enough. BenQ lists HDMI 2.1 inputs, 4K/60Hz support and ALLM, so current consoles can negotiate a low-latency game mode without requiring a more complex theater installation. A review reports 81% DCI-P3 coverage, which is adequate for general viewing but narrower than the N3 Ultimate’s stated 110% BT.2020 gamut.
A 60Hz ceiling means the GP520 is not the right tool for 120Hz console gaming or 1080p/240Hz esports play. It can still be a good living-room projector for story-driven games, films and television when price and straightforward setup matter more than maximum refresh rate. HDR format support, brightness, audio, lens controls and smart-platform certification should be confirmed for the exact regional package.
XGIMI HORIZON 20: the placement-flexibility choice
The HORIZON 20 is aimed at rooms in which the projector cannot sit exactly on the screen’s centerline. XGIMI lists a 1.2–1.5:1 throw ratio, vertical adjustment of ±120% and horizontal adjustment of ±45%. Its stated latency is 2.2ms at 1080p/120Hz and 3ms at 4K/60Hz, while dynamic contrast is listed at 20,000:1. It also provides HDMI with eARC.
Use the throw ratio to check distance: multiply the desired image width by 1.2 for the nearest stated placement and by 1.5 for the farthest. Treat the large electronic adjustment ranges as installation aids, not a reason to ignore geometry. Extreme digital or electronic correction can reduce the usable image area or soften detail. The available specifications do not establish 4K/120Hz, 1080p/240Hz, VRR, brightness standard, HDR formats or Netflix certification, so choose it for convenience rather than for an assumed feature set.

Which projector is best for a bright living room?
Start with the Hisense C2 Ultra if you want an all-in-one solution and can verify the regional specifications. The N3 Ultimate remains the better-documented high-brightness option because its manufacturer publishes 5,800 ISO lumens, but high brightness alone does not guarantee deep blacks in ambient light. Light falling on the screen raises the black floor and reduces perceived contrast.
Use a screen designed to reject or control ambient light when the room cannot be darkened. An ALR or fixed-frame screen can improve perceived contrast and alignment, but it adds to the installed cost and must be matched to the projector’s throw direction. Avoid shining a projector onto a glossy white wall: reflections and room light will wash out HDR highlights and shadow detail.

For PlayStation 5 or Xbox at 4K
- Decide whether 4K/60Hz is sufficient. The Hisense C2 Ultra and BenQ GP520 explicitly support 4K/60Hz; the Epson LS12000 supports 4K/120Hz; the XGIMI HORIZON 20 lists 4K/60Hz latency.
- Use a certified high-bandwidth HDMI cable and connect directly to the projector or to an AV receiver that supports the same signal.
- Enable the projector’s game or low-latency mode, then set the console to its matching resolution and refresh rate.
- Check that HDR, ALLM and eARC remain available after changing refresh rate; some projectors expose fewer features in their fastest mode.
For competitive PC gaming
The BenQ X3100i has the clearest documented path: 1080p/240Hz at 4.2ms, or 1080p/120Hz at 8.3ms. Select the PC output mode explicitly and disable frame interpolation or enhancement features that add processing. If you need 4K detail, use its 4K/60Hz mode and accept the stated 16.7ms latency.

The Hisense C2 Ultra offers the broadest stated combination of 4K/60Hz movie playback and 2K/240Hz gaming. The LS12000 is the strongest cinema installation when 4K/120Hz is a firm requirement.

Installation, audio and ownership checks
Measure before buying
- Measure screen width, not just diagonal size, and compare it with the projector’s throw-ratio range.
- Reserve ventilation space and a cable path; a ceiling mount or rear shelf may require longer certified HDMI cables.
- Confirm whether lens shift is optical or electronic. The N3’s 0.88–1.7:1 range is an optical zoom; the HORIZON 20’s stated adjustment ranges are placement aids but do not replace careful alignment.
Plan sound separately
The C2 Ultra is the only alternative here with a specifically documented JBL 2×10W plus 20W system. The N3 lists 25W stereo, and both provide enough information for casual viewing, but built-in speakers cannot create the same front-stage separation or bass as a separate sound system. Use eARC on models that provide it when you want Dolby formats or lossless-compatible sound routed to a soundbar or receiver.
Verify region-specific details
Before paying, check the exact model number, firmware release, smart-TV platform, Netflix certification, HDMI port labels, warranty jurisdiction and return policy. Regional names, retailer stock and prices can change, and the same projector family may expose different apps or ports in different markets. None of the specifications above establishes a current price, warranty term, fan-noise rating or total installed cost; include the screen, mount, cables, external audio and professional installation in your budget.
Decision guide
| Your priority | Pick | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| One projector for bright-room movies and gaming | Hisense C2 Ultra | Most complete stated mix of 4K, Dolby Vision, HDMI 2.1, 4K/60Hz, 2K/240Hz and built-in JBL audio |
| Lowest competitive-gaming latency | BenQ X3100i | 4.2ms at 1080p/240Hz and 8.3ms at 1080p/120Hz are explicitly specified |
| 4K/120Hz home theater | Epson Pro Cinema LS12000 | 4K/120Hz and dual HDMI 2.1 suit a permanent installation |
| Lower-cost 4K living-room setup | BenQ GP520 | 4K/60Hz, ALLM and HDMI 2.1 without paying for a higher-refresh mode |
| Off-center or changing placement | XGIMI HORIZON 20 | 1.2–1.5:1 throw ratio and unusually broad stated vertical and horizontal adjustment |
| Maximum published brightness, color and zoom | JMGO N3 Ultimate | 5,800 ISO lumens, 110% BT.2020 and 0.88–1.7:1 optical zoom remain its headline strengths, subject to the independent gaming caveats |
Bottom line
Buy the Hisense C2 Ultra as the safest all-round substitute, provided its regional firmware and HDMI implementation meet your needs. Pick the BenQ X3100i for measurable 1080p high-refresh responsiveness, the Epson LS12000 for a dark-room theater with 4K/120Hz, the BenQ GP520 for affordable 4K/60Hz, and the XGIMI HORIZON 20 when placement flexibility outweighs unconfirmed gaming features. Keep the N3 Ultimate on your shortlist if its 5,800 ISO-lumen brightness, wide color and optical zoom are more valuable than perfect high-refresh presentation.

Can any of these projectors run 240Hz at 4K?
No 4K/240Hz mode is established for this shortlist. The Hisense C2 Ultra lists 2K/240Hz, and the BenQ X3100i lists 1080p/240Hz; those are lower-resolution modes.
Is a 1ms projector claim the same as console input lag?
No. Input lag depends on resolution, refresh rate, processing mode and signal path. Use the mode-specific figures supplied for the BenQ X3100i and verify the selected mode on your console or PC.
Do I need an ALR screen for a living room?
Not always, but ambient light reduces perceived contrast. An ALR or fixed-frame screen can help when blackout curtains are not practical, while a dark room and neutral screen generally preserve the most accurate image.
