For transcription that genuinely works without an internet connection, the iFLYTEK AI Smart Recorder SR302 Pro is the clearest documented alternative to Flowtica Verso. Its manual describes on-device, real-time transcription and downloadable offline language packs. Flowtica Scribe is another local-processing option if you prefer a pen-shaped recorder. PLAUD Note, PLAUD NotePin, and Notta Memo can record while disconnected, but their transcription and AI features depend on a phone app, synchronization, or cloud services. That distinction matters: offline recording means saving sound locally; offline transcription means converting speech to text without sending the recording to an online service.
Verso itself is a card-sized recorder with a 259 PPI always-on e-paper touchscreen, 64 GB storage, four MEMS microphones, a voice-processing unit, USB-C charging, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC. Its advertised summaries, action items, multilingual recognition and multi-speaker recognition are cloud-transcription features, so its hardware does not make it an air-gapped recorder.

What “offline” should mean before you choose a recorder
Voice-recorder specifications often use “offline” to describe only the recording stage. A device may capture hours of audio with no signal and still require an internet connection later for speech recognition, summaries, translation, account authentication or export. Treat these as separate capabilities:
| Capability | What happens without internet | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Offline recording | Microphones save an audio file to internal storage. | You can record in a meeting, flight or restricted facility, but you may still need a connection later. |
| Offline transfer | Audio moves to a phone or computer over a local cable or wireless link. | The file can remain inside your own network, provided the companion app does not upload it automatically. |
| Offline transcription | Speech-to-text runs on the recorder or a locally installed model. | No recording needs to reach a vendor’s server for the transcript. |
| Offline summaries and translation | Higher-level language processing also runs locally. | This is less common than local transcription and must be verified separately. |
If your requirement is an air-gapped workflow, ask four questions before buying: Can the device transcribe with Wi-Fi and mobile data disabled? Does it need an account before showing a transcript? Are language models downloaded to the device? Can transcripts be exported locally without a cloud sync?

1. iFLYTEK AI Smart Recorder SR302 Pro: the strongest true-offline match
Why it is the leading choice
The SR302 Pro is the best-supported answer for a reader who means “transcribe without internet,” rather than merely “record without internet.” Its official manual describes real-time transcription on the recorder and provides instructions for downloading and updating offline language packs. The same operating guidance describes the recorder as an offline product. That is stronger evidence than a generic claim that a device can record while disconnected.
How its offline workflow works
- Connect the recorder temporarily when you first set it up.
- Open the language-pack management function described in the SR302 Pro manual.
- Download the language pack for the language and region you will use. Confirm that the pack is stored on the recorder rather than merely cached in a phone app.
- Disconnect Wi-Fi, mobile data and any paired phone.
- Start a recording and enable real-time transcription on the recorder.
- Check that words appear while the device remains offline. Test the languages, punctuation and speaker behavior you need before relying on it for sensitive work.
- When finished, export by the recorder’s supported local method. If your workflow requires a computer or phone, verify whether the transfer is direct or triggers a cloud upload.
Limitations to check
- Language-pack availability can differ by region. A model that is offline-capable in one market may not offer the same languages elsewhere.
- Offline speech recognition does not automatically mean offline summaries, translation or speaker identification. Confirm each feature independently.
- Current availability and firmware support should be checked before purchase, especially if you need a language other than the main supported set.
Choose SR302 Pro when the non-negotiable requirement is local speech-to-text. It is a dedicated recorder, not a card accessory designed around a cloud account, so it may be less convenient than a phone-connected product for sharing and collaborative workflows.

2. Flowtica Scribe: local transcription in a pen form factor
What it offers
Flowtica Scribe is not a direct physical replacement for Verso’s card and e-paper screen. It is pen-shaped, records without a phone nearby, transfers audio over a local wireless connection when it returns to Bluetooth range, and provides standard on-device transcription after a one-time model download. For someone willing to trade the card display for a pen, that is a practical offline path.
| Specification | Published figure | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Storage | 32 GB | Manufacturer figure |
| Audio capacity | Up to 4,000 hours | Maximum stated by the manufacturer; actual capacity varies with recording format |
| Continuous recording | Up to 30 hours | Manufacturer figure; real runtime depends on settings and battery condition |
| Microphone pickup | Up to 16 feet | Manufacturer figure; room acoustics and speaker direction affect results |
Who should choose it
Scribe suits interviews, field notes and classrooms where a pen is easier to carry than a card recorder. The one-time model download is important: complete it before entering an offline environment, then test transcription with the device disconnected. Its standard on-device transcription is narrower than a cloud system’s summaries, action items or translation, but the local data path is clearer.

Trade-offs versus Verso
- You lose Verso’s 259 PPI always-on e-paper interface and its ability to display summaries and action items on the recorder.
- Scribe has half the stated storage capacity of Verso: 32 GB versus 64 GB.
- Scribe’s published continuous-recording figure is up to 30 hours, while Verso lists up to 72 hours of use per charge; these are different product measurements and should not be treated as a laboratory comparison.
- The pen shape may be less suitable for mounting to a phone or table, but it can be less conspicuous during note-taking.
3. PLAUD Note and NotePin: compact recorders with partial offline behavior
PLAUD Note is a card recorder and NotePin is a smaller wearable-style recorder. Both can capture audio away from a continuous connection, which makes them reasonable choices for offline recording. The evidence does not establish that their transcription and summaries run fully on the hardware. Their workflow is commonly described around a companion smartphone, so treat them as partial-offline devices unless the current regional documentation explicitly confirms local transcription.
What “partial offline” means here
- You can start and finish a recording while the recorder is disconnected.
- The audio can remain on the device until it reconnects to the phone workflow.
- Transcription, summarization, speaker processing or export may occur in the app or a cloud service.
- A recorder that works in airplane mode is not necessarily suitable for confidential, air-gapped transcription.
Questions to answer before buying
- Does the current app display a transcript with both phone connectivity and internet access disabled?
- Is an account required to activate the device or process the first recording?
- Can you disable automatic cloud synchronization?
- Are transcript files exportable directly over USB or local wireless transfer?
- Which subscription, usage allowance or region controls apply to transcription and summaries?
Choose PLAUD hardware when pocket size and a polished phone-assisted workflow matter more than guaranteed local speech-to-text. Do not describe either model as fully offline without checking the current app and firmware documentation for your region.

Notta Memo can record while offline and transcribe later, but a February 5, 2026 review reports that registration and internet access are required for transcription, AI summaries, chat, translation, synchronization and export. Without the app or internet, it functions essentially as a dictaphone. That makes it useful for capturing a conversation in a dead zone, not for producing a transcript inside an air-gapped room.
Typical workflow
- Record locally on the Memo while disconnected.
- Return to a networked environment and open the companion app.
- Register or sign in if required.
- Synchronize the audio, then wait for the online transcription and AI features to finish.
- Export only after processing; export is among the functions reported to require the app and internet.
This delayed workflow may be acceptable for travel notes or ordinary meetings. It is a poor fit where recordings cannot leave the premises, where policy forbids cloud processing, or where you need text immediately while offline.
5. Flowtica Verso: attractive hardware, but primarily cloud transcription
Verso remains relevant as the baseline because it combines a magnetic card design with a visible interface. Its official specification lists a 259 PPI always-on e-paper touchscreen, 64 GB onboard storage, USB-C charging, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC, four MEMS microphones, a voice-processing unit, up to 72 hours of use per charge, up to 15 speakers and a 16.4-foot pickup range. The product description says it shows summaries and action items on the device instead of acting as a screenless recorder.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Those hardware features do not establish local transcription. Verso is described with cloud transcription, multilingual recognition and multi-speaker recognition, so buyers should plan on an online service for the AI output unless Flowtica later documents an offline mode. The anticipated US price is $299 with shipping expected in Q4 2026; because these are future launch details, verify the live price, availability and software requirements at purchase time.

When Verso still makes sense
- You want a recorder that can be controlled and reviewed on its own screen.
- You value magnetic mounting to a phone or another surface.
- Your privacy policy permits cloud transcription.
- You need a larger stated storage capacity and longer advertised use per charge than Scribe.
If your defining requirement is no internet at any stage of transcription, Verso should not be your first choice based on the currently documented feature set.
Storage, battery and pickup: how to compare the numbers
Capacity and runtime figures are not interchangeable. Storage tells you how much audio can remain on the device; battery runtime tells you how long it can operate before charging. Pickup distance is a manufacturer maximum, not a guarantee of intelligible speech in every room.
| Device | Storage | Battery or recording figure | Pickup or speaker figure |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flowtica Verso | 64 GB | Up to 72 hours of use per charge | Up to 16.4 feet; up to 15 speakers |
| Flowtica Scribe | 32 GB | Up to 30 hours of continuous recording; up to 4,000 hours of audio | Up to 16 feet |
| iFLYTEK SR302 Pro | Not stated in the cited material | Not stated in the cited material | Not stated in the cited material |
| PLAUD Note and NotePin | Not stated in the cited material | Not stated in the cited material | Not stated in the cited material |
| Notta Memo | Not stated in the cited material | Not stated in the cited material | Not stated in the cited material |
For an offline assignment, leave reserve capacity and battery headroom. Real recordings may consume more storage than a headline “hours” figure suggests, especially with higher-quality audio, and transcription processing can use additional power.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Choose Flowtica Scribe if you want local processing and a pen
Scribe is the most natural fit when a pen form factor is acceptable and standard on-device transcription is enough. Download the model before going offline.
Choose PLAUD Note or NotePin if capture convenience comes first
These are compact choices for recording now and processing through a phone later. Label them partial-offline, not fully offline, unless current documentation proves otherwise.
Choose Notta Memo if delayed cloud processing is acceptable
Memo can preserve a recording without a signal, but its AI output waits for registration, the app and internet. It is not an air-gapped transcription device.
Choose Verso for its screen and hardware controls
Verso’s e-paper display, storage and magnetic design may justify a cloud-dependent workflow. It is not the documented leader for offline transcription.
How to test an “offline” claim before trusting it
- Prepare while connected: install firmware, companion apps and language or transcription models; create an account only if the device requires one.
- Record a controlled sample: speak several sentences, numbers, names and overlapping dialogue in the environment where you will work.
- Cut every network: enable airplane mode, disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth where possible, remove the SIM or use a shielded test environment, and disconnect the companion phone.
- Run transcription on the device: verify that text appears without a spinner waiting for a server.
- Inspect the result: check punctuation, timestamps, speaker labels, language switching and whether summaries or translation still work.
- Restore connectivity only after the test: watch for an automatic upload when the device reconnects. A hidden sync can change the privacy assessment.
- Document the result: record firmware version, language pack, date and region so a later update does not silently change your workflow.
Privacy, consent and data-path precautions
Local transcription reduces one category of exposure, but it does not remove the legal or ethical duty to tell people they are being recorded. Follow the consent rules that apply where you record, particularly for interviews, workplaces, classrooms and medical or legal conversations.

- For regulated or confidential work, have your organization approve the complete path: microphone, recorder storage, phone, local network, cloud service and export destination.
Troubleshooting an offline transcription setup
The recorder captures audio but shows no transcript
Check whether the language pack or local model was downloaded, whether transcription was started separately from recording, and whether the device requires a one-time online activation. If the product only advertises offline recording, the missing transcript may be expected rather than a fault.
Transcription works only after reconnecting the phone
That behavior indicates app-assisted or cloud processing. Test with both the phone and internet disconnected; if text appears only after synchronization, classify the product as partial-offline.
The wrong language is recognized
Install the correct regional language pack, select it before recording and repeat a short offline test. Do not assume that multilingual cloud recognition means every language is available in the local model.

Some devices separate recording from export. Try a direct USB transfer or local wireless method, and check whether export is gated behind account authentication. For a sensitive workflow, this limitation should be identified before deployment.
Speaker labels are missing
On-device transcription may provide plain text while speaker separation is performed online. Treat speaker labels, summaries, action items and translation as separate features and test each one.
