Best Alternatives to the BenQ INFTYLAB M Mouse for Mac Gesture Controls

Best documented alternative: Logitech’s MX Master 3S for Mac. Its dedicated Gesture button lets you hold the button and move the mouse left, right, up or down for Mission Control, App Exposé and desktop switching, while seven customizable buttons, a thumb wheel and SmartShift scrolling provide more physical controls than the compact INFTYLAB layout.

Choose the BenQ INFTYLAB M Mouse if you value a lighter, smaller Mac-focused design, trackpad-like scrolling and flexible connection options. It can trigger Mac shortcuts and gesture actions through BenQ’s Glide software, but it does not provide the full set of native Multi-Touch gestures available on a Mac trackpad.

Which Mac mouse is the best alternative?

For gesture controls specifically, the Logitech MX Master 3S for Mac is the strongest choice supported by published documentation. Logitech describes a dedicated Gesture button: hold it while moving the mouse in one of four directions. On macOS, those movements can invoke Mission Control, App Exposé and switching between virtual desktops. Logi Options+ also lets you assign app-specific actions, including browser-tab switching, zoom, timeline navigation and undo/redo.

The BenQ INFTYLAB M Mouse takes a different approach. BenQ emphasizes smoother, trackpad-like scrolling and a compact Mac-first design. Its physical function buttons start with Mission Control, screenshot and horizontal-scrolling assignments, and Glide software can remap buttons to shortcuts and Mac gesture actions. That makes it useful for command triggers, but it is not a mouse-sized version of every trackpad gesture.

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

The practical decision is therefore simple: select the MX Master 3S when directional gestures and extensive button programming matter most; select the M Mouse when low weight, compact dimensions, smooth scrolling and three connection modes matter more.

What “gesture controls” means on a mouse

Mac users often use “gestures” for two different mechanisms. Separating them prevents a disappointing purchase.

Directional mouse gestures

A mouse gesture is an input created by pressing a button and moving the mouse in a direction. The MX Master 3S uses this model with its dedicated Gesture button. A left, right, up or down movement can be mapped to a macOS command or an application action. The action is generated by Logitech’s software; macOS does not interpret the mouse movement as a native finger gesture.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Programmable shortcut buttons

A button can send a keyboard shortcut such as a command combination, open a function or run a software-defined action. The M Mouse’s default function buttons include Mission Control, screenshot and horizontal scrolling, and Glide can change those assignments. This is still useful for one-handed control, even though it is not a multi-finger gesture.

Native Multi-Touch gestures

A trackpad recognizes contact from multiple fingers and can distinguish pinch, rotate, two-finger scrolling and other behaviors. A conventional mouse cannot sense fingers on its surface in the same way. Macworld’s review describes the M Mouse as offering trackpad-style scrolling and programmable shortcuts without full Multi-Touch gesture support. If pinch, rotate or other native finger interactions are essential, keep a Mac trackpad available alongside the mouse.

Logitech MX Master 3S for Mac: the gesture-focused alternative

How the Gesture button works

Logitech’s documented workflow is explicit: hold down the Gesture button while moving the mouse left, right, up or down. The movement is interpreted by Logi Options+ and assigned to an action. On a Mac, documented actions include Mission Control, App Exposé and switching between desktops.

  1. Install or open Logi Options+ on the Mac.
  2. Select the MX Master 3S for Mac from the device list.
  3. Open the control for the Gesture button.
  4. Assign an action to each directional movement: left, right, up or down.
  5. Press and hold the Gesture button, move the mouse in the chosen direction, then release to run the command.

The exact assignment screen can change as Logi Options+ is updated, so use the labels shown in your installed version. The important distinction is that gestures are a dedicated input mode rather than a collection of unrelated buttons.

Why the extra controls matter

The MX Master 3S has seven customizable buttons, a thumb wheel and a SmartShift wheel. The thumb wheel is suited to horizontal movement, while SmartShift can change between controlled scrolling and faster free-spinning behavior. Together with the Gesture button, these controls let you reserve one input for desktop navigation, another for horizontal timelines or spreadsheets and additional buttons for application commands.

Logi Options+ supports app-specific profiles. A browser can receive tab switching or zoom commands, a creative application can use timeline navigation, and an editing workflow can assign undo or redo. Those assignments are software profiles, not universal macOS gestures, so they may require separate configuration for each application.

Hardware and compatibility

Logitech lists a 141 g weight and a 200–8,000 DPI range. The mouse connects over Bluetooth Low Energy or with a Logi Bolt receiver. macOS 10.15 or later was listed at release. The larger right-hand ergonomic shape can be an advantage for palm support, but it is substantially heavier than the 85 g M Mouse and may feel less nimble to users who prefer a small travel mouse.

BenQ INFTYLAB M Mouse: the compact Mac-first option

What BenQ provides

BenQ says the M Mouse “makes mouse scrolling feel smoother and more natural, similar to a MacBook trackpad.” The product supports Bluetooth, a 2.4G USB receiver and USB-C wired use. It can pair with up to three Bluetooth devices, which is useful when moving between several Macs or other compatible computers without carrying multiple mice.

BenQ’s launch information identifies the mouse as weighing 85 g and supporting up to 6,000 DPI. That launch material dates the INFTYLAB launch to September 3, 2026. These are manufacturer figures, not independent laboratory measurements.

Default controls and Glide remapping

The M Mouse’s function buttons are set by default for Mission Control, screenshot and horizontal scrolling. BenQ’s Glide software can remap buttons to keyboard shortcuts and Mac gesture actions. Glide is therefore the key to making the M Mouse fit a particular workflow; without configuration, it remains a compact mouse with a useful set of preset commands rather than a fully personalized gesture controller.

  1. Connect the M Mouse by Bluetooth, its 2.4G receiver or USB-C cable.
  2. Open BenQ Glide on the Mac. The product documentation describes Glide as a desktop/web configuration tool.
  3. Select the button or function control you want to change.
  4. Choose a shortcut or Mac gesture action from the available mapping options.
  5. Save the profile and test the action in the application where you intend to use it.

If a mapping does not work, test the same shortcut from the keyboard first. A keyboard shortcut that macOS or the application does not recognize will not become reliable merely because it is assigned to a mouse button.

Why choose it over the MX Master 3S

  • Lower weight: 85 g versus 141 g can make the M Mouse easier to carry and quicker to reposition.
  • Compact Mac orientation: its defaults focus on Mission Control, screenshots and horizontal scrolling.
  • Three connection modes: Bluetooth, 2.4G receiver and USB-C wired operation give you a fallback if one method is inconvenient.
  • Multiple Bluetooth devices: up to three Bluetooth pairings reduce repeated pairing when switching computers.
  • Trackpad-like scrolling goal: BenQ specifically targets a smoother scrolling feel rather than a traditional notched-wheel experience.

Gesture capability compared by task

Mission Control

Both mice can reach Mission Control. The M Mouse includes Mission Control as a default function-button assignment, while the MX Master 3S can invoke it through a documented directional Gesture-button mapping. The MX approach leaves the physical function buttons available for other assignments; the M Mouse approach requires less initial configuration if its default layout suits you.

Switching between desktops

Logitech documents switching between desktops as a Mac action for its directional gesture system. BenQ’s materials describe shortcut and Mac gesture mappings through Glide, but they do not establish a specific factory mapping for desktop switching. You may be able to assign an appropriate shortcut in Glide, but the available action names and behavior depend on the installed software and macOS settings.

App Exposé

App Exposé is explicitly listed among the MX Master 3S Mac gesture actions. The M Mouse documentation supplied here confirms Mission Control, screenshot and horizontal scrolling defaults plus configurable Mac actions, but does not name App Exposé as a default. Treat the MX as the better-documented choice when App Exposé is a requirement.

Horizontal scrolling

The M Mouse assigns horizontal scrolling to a default function control and aims for trackpad-like smoothness through Glide. The MX Master 3S uses a dedicated thumb wheel for horizontal movement and a SmartShift wheel for vertical scrolling behavior. For wide spreadsheets, timelines or design canvases, the MX’s separate thumb wheel may be easier to operate while keeping the pointer moving normally.

Application-specific commands

Logi Options+ explicitly supports app-specific actions such as browser-tab switching, zoom, timeline navigation and undo/redo. Glide supports remapping to shortcuts and Mac gesture actions. Both products therefore require software configuration for specialized workflows; neither should be assumed to understand every application automatically.

Is the INFTYLAB M Mouse a replacement for a Magic Mouse or trackpad?

It can replace a basic pointing device and provide convenient Mac commands, but it is not a complete replacement for a Multi-Touch trackpad. The M Mouse offers smooth scrolling intended to resemble a MacBook trackpad and can trigger shortcuts through Glide. That covers common navigation needs such as scrolling, Mission Control and screenshots.

It does not reproduce the full range of native finger sensing described in Mac trackpad interactions. Macworld’s review specifically characterizes it as lacking full Multi-Touch gesture support. Pinch-to-zoom, rotate and other gestures that depend on multiple fingers should therefore be handled by a trackpad or another dedicated Multi-Touch surface.

The MX Master 3S has the same fundamental limitation: its Gesture button creates software-defined directional actions, not native Multi-Touch input. If your work depends on pinch, rotate or several simultaneous fingers, use a trackpad alongside either mouse rather than expecting a mouse gesture system to emulate it perfectly.

Choosing by hand size, desk setup and workflow

Choose the MX Master 3S for Mac when

  • Your priority is a clearly documented hold-and-move gesture for Mission Control, App Exposé and desktop switching.
  • You want seven customizable buttons plus a thumb wheel and SmartShift wheel.
  • You use different applications that need different commands and are willing to configure Logi Options+ profiles.
  • You prefer a larger right-hand ergonomic shape and do not mind a 141 g mouse.
  • You need Bluetooth Low Energy or Logi Bolt connectivity.

Choose the INFTYLAB M Mouse when

  • You want an 85 g, compact mouse that is easier to carry.
  • You prefer smooth, trackpad-like scrolling and a Mac-oriented default layout.
  • You need Bluetooth, 2.4G receiver and USB-C wired options in one device.
  • You switch among as many as three Bluetooth devices.
  • You are comfortable using Glide to map shortcuts instead of relying on a dedicated directional Gesture button.

Use a mouse plus a trackpad when

  • Pinch, rotate or other native Multi-Touch gestures are central to your work.
  • You want precise pointer control from a mouse but still need finger-based navigation.
  • You regularly use Mac features that depend on several simultaneous fingers rather than a software shortcut.

Setup checklist for reliable Mac gestures

  1. Update macOS and the mouse software. The MX Master 3S gesture workflow depends on Logi Options+, and the M Mouse’s remapping depends on Glide. Install the current versions supported by your Mac.
  2. Choose one connection method first. Pair Bluetooth or connect the receiver before creating mappings. For the M Mouse, USB-C wired mode can help confirm that the hardware works before troubleshooting wireless pairing.
  3. Verify the macOS command. Test Mission Control, desktop switching or another command from the keyboard or macOS interface. This separates an operating-system setting problem from a mouse-mapping problem.
  4. Map only a few high-value actions initially. Start with Mission Control, desktop switching or horizontal scrolling. Add application-specific commands after the basic gestures respond consistently.
  5. Check the active application profile. Logi Options+ can use app-specific profiles, so a command may change when you switch applications. Glide mappings should likewise be tested in the program where they will be used.
  6. Practice the gesture motion. On the MX Master 3S, press and hold the Gesture button before moving. A movement without the button held is not the documented gesture sequence.
  7. Keep a trackpad available for Multi-Touch. Software mappings can trigger commands, but they cannot turn either mouse into a true multi-finger surface.

Troubleshooting common failures

The gesture does nothing

Confirm that the configuration application is installed and that the correct mouse is selected. On the MX Master 3S, verify that the Gesture button has a directional assignment and that you are holding it during the movement. On the M Mouse, reopen Glide and confirm that the profile was saved to the intended button.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Mission Control opens, but desktop switching does not

Mission Control and desktop switching are separate macOS actions. The MX Master 3S documentation names both as gesture actions, so assign desktop switching to a different direction if needed. For the M Mouse, use a Glide shortcut mapping and check that the corresponding macOS keyboard command is enabled.

Actions work in one app only

Check whether an application-specific profile is active. Logi Options+ intentionally allows different actions by application. A shortcut assigned for a browser may not be the same shortcut used in a creative application. Create or adjust the profile rather than assuming the global mapping has failed.

Scrolling feels wrong

For the M Mouse, confirm that Glide is providing the trackpad-like scrolling configuration and that horizontal scrolling has not been reassigned. For the MX Master 3S, test both the SmartShift wheel and thumb wheel; they serve different scrolling directions and behaviors.

The mouse feels too heavy or too small

Weight and shape are significant differences: the M Mouse is 85 g, while the MX Master 3S is 141 g and uses a larger right-hand ergonomic design. If frequent repositioning or travel is more important than palm support and extra controls, the lighter M Mouse is the safer physical fit. If hand support and a stable, larger shell matter more, the MX Master 3S is likely to feel more appropriate.

Bottom line for Mac gesture buyers

Buy the Logitech MX Master 3S for Mac when “gesture control” means a dependable hold-and-move interface for Mission Control, App Exposé and switching desktops, backed by extensive button and app-profile customization. Buy the BenQ INFTYLAB M Mouse when you want a lighter compact mouse with smooth, trackpad-like scrolling, three connection methods and Glide-based shortcut mapping. Neither replaces every native Multi-Touch gesture, so a trackpad remains the right companion for pinch, rotate and other finger-specific interactions.
