Best Alternatives to Siam Cement (SCC) Stock for Thailand Infrastructure Exposure

There is no one-for-one replacement for Siam Cement (SET: SCC). SCC combines cement and green solutions, smart-living products, distribution and retail, decorative materials, chemicals and packaging. An alternative therefore depends on the infrastructure channel you want: direct construction execution, contracted electricity generation, or a different materials exposure. The clearest publicly reported choices in the supplied data are Italian-Thai Development (SET: ITD) for project execution and B.Grimm Power (SET: BGRIM) for power infrastructure. They are not interchangeable, and each carries risks that SCC’s diversified structure does not.

What SCC gives an infrastructure investor

Siam Cement is a diversified SET-listed holding company rather than a pure cement contractor. Its businesses span SCG Cement and Green Solutions, Smart Living, Distribution and Retail, SCG Decor, SCG Chemicals and SCGP. That mix can connect the company to infrastructure through several routes: construction materials demand, industrial and packaging supply chains, distribution, and related building products.

The Stock Exchange of Thailand factsheet dated 11 September 2026 reported SCC at Baht 268 per share, with market capitalisation of Baht 321.6 billion, EV/EBITDA of 10.75, P/E of 24.01 and P/BV of 0.89. Those figures are a dated snapshot, not a permanent valuation. Prices, earnings and enterprise value can change materially after a results release, capital raise, asset sale or major commodity move.

SCC’s diversification is the key feature to preserve—or deliberately give up—when selecting an alternative. A construction specialist can provide purer exposure to public works but may have more volatile cash conversion. A utility can offer contracted generation revenue but introduces fuel, interest-rate and power-contract risks. Neither automatically offers the same combination of materials, chemicals, packaging and consumer-facing operations.

The two alternatives and the infrastructure channels they represent

Company SET sector classification Primary infrastructure channel Factsheet date Price Market capitalisation EV/EBITDA P/E P/BV Dividend yield
Siam Cement (SCC) Property & Construction-related categories Materials, chemicals, packaging, distribution and building solutions 11 September 2026 Baht 268 Baht 321.6 billion 10.75 24.01 0.89 Not stated
Italian-Thai Development (ITD) Property & Construction-related categories Direct construction and engineering project execution 7 October 2026 Baht 0.40 Baht 2.112 billion 151.02 Not stated 0.73 Not stated
B.Grimm Power (BGRIM) Resources/Energy & Utilities Electricity and steam generation under utility and contractual arrangements 14 October 2026 Baht 19.70 Baht 51.356 billion 11.34 21.29 1.48 2.09%

The classifications matter. SCC and ITD sit in property and construction-related categories, while BGRIM is an energy and utilities company. That means “Thailand infrastructure exposure” can describe fundamentally different cash-flow systems rather than a single trade.

Italian-Thai Development: the direct construction-project option

What the business does

The SET factsheet dated 7 October 2026 describes ITD as an integrated construction and contracting company capable of large and technically advanced projects, with overseas expansion. This is the most direct of the two alternatives for an investor seeking contractors that build transport, civil, industrial or other major infrastructure rather than supplying materials or selling power.

ITD’s economic exposure is therefore tied to winning work, converting backlog into certified progress, collecting receivables and controlling project costs. A new contract can increase future revenue visibility, but the contract’s headline value is not the same as cash profit. Margin depends on design changes, claims, labour and materials inflation, subcontractor performance, delay penalties and the timing of customer payments.

Reported valuation and why it needs caution

The same factsheet reported a price of Baht 0.40, market capitalisation of Baht 2.112 billion, EV/EBITDA of 151.02 and P/BV of 0.73. An EV/EBITDA multiple this high should not be read as a simple “expensive versus SCC” conclusion. The denominator and capital structure may be distorted by weak or unusually low operating earnings, debt, lease obligations, provisions or one-off items. Refresh the latest financial statements before relying on the ratio.

A low P/BV also does not prove that the shares are undervalued. Book value can be impaired by project losses, delayed claims, receivable write-downs or asset revaluations. For a contractor, the quality and recoverability of working-capital balances can matter more than a single price-to-book comparison.

Risks that are specific to ITD

  • Execution risk: technically complex projects can suffer delays, redesigns, cost overruns or disputes.
  • Working-capital pressure: the company may have to fund payroll, subcontractors and materials before collecting progress payments.
  • Refinancing and covenant risk: debt maturities and loan conditions can become binding when projects consume cash or earnings fall.
  • Customer and project concentration: one delayed or loss-making contract can have an outsized effect on a smaller company.
  • Geographic complexity: overseas expansion introduces foreign-exchange, legal, political and repatriation risks in addition to construction risk.

When ITD fits the investor’s objective

ITD is the better conceptual fit when the objective is high-beta exposure to the volume and award cycle of Thai and regional infrastructure projects, and the investor is prepared to analyse contract-level economics and financing. It is not a lower-risk substitute for SCC simply because both appear in property and construction-related classifications.

B.Grimm Power: the contracted power-infrastructure option

What the business does

The SET factsheet dated 14 October 2026 describes BGRIM as a holding company whose core business is generating and selling electricity and steam in Thailand and other countries. This gives an investor exposure to operating power assets, offtake arrangements and the expansion of generation capacity rather than to cement volumes or construction backlogs.

Power infrastructure can produce steadier revenue than a project contractor when plants operate under supportive contracts, but the stability is conditional. Cash flow depends on plant availability, fuel economics, tariff formulas, offtaker credit, contract duration, debt service and the timing of new projects entering operation.

Reported valuation and dividend policy

The factsheet reported BGRIM at Baht 19.70 per share, market capitalisation of Baht 51.356 billion, EV/EBITDA of 11.34, P/E of 21.29, P/BV of 1.48 and dividend yield of 2.09%. The yield is the factsheet’s dated figure; it should not be treated as a guaranteed forward return.

BGRIM’s stated policy is to pay at least 50% of normalised net profit, subject to performance, cash flow, investment needs and loan restrictions. The policy is not an unconditional promise. A company can retain cash for construction, debt repayment or compliance with financing terms even when normalised profit is positive.

Risks that are specific to BGRIM

  • Interest-rate sensitivity: power projects are capital intensive, so higher rates can raise financing costs and reduce equity value.
  • Fuel-cost exposure: changes in gas or other fuel prices matter when contracts do not pass costs through immediately or completely.
  • Power-price and contract risk: tariff structures, dispatch, offtaker terms and regulatory decisions affect realised cash flow.
  • Refinancing risk: debt maturities and the funding of new capacity can compete with dividends.
  • Project concentration: an outage, construction delay or underperforming plant can affect group results.
  • Cross-border exposure: operations outside Thailand add currency, regulatory and political variables.

When BGRIM fits the investor’s objective

BGRIM fits an investor who wants utility and power-generation exposure linked to electricity and steam demand, contracted capacity and long-lived assets. It is not a direct replacement for SCC’s building-materials cycle or ITD’s construction backlog. Its return drivers are closer to infrastructure finance and asset operations than to cement pricing.

SCC versus ITD versus BGRIM: a decision framework

Question SCC ITD BGRIM
What infrastructure link is being purchased? Several links: materials, chemicals, packaging, distribution and building solutions Winning and executing construction and engineering contracts Operating and expanding electricity and steam generation
How concentrated is the business model? Diversified across multiple business groups More concentrated in project execution and contracting Concentrated in power assets and related holdings
Main earnings question How do volumes, spreads and demand perform across businesses? Are contracts completed profitably and converted into cash? Are plants available, contracts economic and financing manageable?
Main balance-sheet question How do group leverage and cyclical subsidiaries affect value? Can working capital and debt be funded through the project cycle? Can project debt be serviced while new capacity is funded?
Reported EV/EBITDA 10.75 151.02; denominator and capital structure require investigation 11.34
Reported P/E 24.01 Not stated in the cited factsheet data 21.29
Reported P/BV 0.89 0.73 1.48
Reported dividend information Not stated in the cited factsheet data Not stated in the cited factsheet data 2.09% yield; policy targets at least 50% of normalised net profit, subject to conditions

This table is a screening aid, not a ranking. The metrics come from different factsheet dates, and the companies have different capital structures and accounting profiles. A lower multiple can reflect weaker earnings quality or higher risk; a higher multiple can reflect growth expectations, asset intensity or a temporarily depressed denominator.

How to choose the right alternative

Choose by infrastructure channel first

  1. Materials and diversified building exposure: retain SCC as the reference case. Its portfolio is broader than a pure cement producer, so compare any alternative against the specific SCC business you want to replace.
  2. Construction awards and execution: investigate ITD. Focus on order intake, backlog quality, gross margins by project, claims, receivables, cash flow and debt maturities.
  3. Electricity and utility assets: investigate BGRIM. Focus on contracted capacity, plant availability, tariff and fuel pass-through, offtaker quality, debt costs and the funding plan for new projects.

Match risk to the intended holding period

Construction exposure can react sharply to contract announcements, delays and quarterly cash movements. Utility exposure often develops through operating performance, tariff resets, refinancing and capacity additions. A diversified holding company may dilute any single infrastructure catalyst but can also reduce dependence on one project or one commodity spread. The appropriate choice depends on whether the portfolio needs a focused catalyst or a broader operating base.

Do not infer safety from the share price

ITD’s Baht 0.40 share price does not make it economically “cheaper” than a Baht 268 SCC share. Share price is simply the value assigned to one share unit; market capitalisation, enterprise value, earnings, debt and share count determine comparability. Likewise, BGRIM’s Baht 19.70 price says nothing by itself about whether its utility assets are attractively valued.

Due diligence before making a valuation comparison

The cited factsheets provide a starting snapshot, not a complete cross-company investment case. Use the latest SET filings and company disclosures to complete the following checks.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Refresh the date: replace the September and October 2026 snapshots with the latest available price, shares outstanding, results and balance-sheet data.
  • Reconcile valuation: calculate enterprise value consistently, including debt, leases, cash and non-controlling interests where applicable.
  • Normalise earnings: separate recurring operating profit from asset sales, impairments, foreign-exchange movements, provisions and other one-off items.
  • Test cash conversion: compare EBITDA and reported profit with operating cash flow and free cash flow over several periods.
  • Map leverage: list gross debt, net debt, maturity dates, interest rates, secured facilities, covenants and refinancing assumptions.
  • For ITD, inspect the project book: identify remaining contract value, expected margins, completion schedules, customer advances, retention amounts, claims and loss-making projects. No complete backlog comparison is established in the cited data.
  • For BGRIM, inspect the asset book: review contracted versus merchant exposure, capacity under construction, commercial-operation dates, availability, fuel pass-through and offtaker terms.
  • For SCC, separate segments: determine how much current earnings comes from cement and green solutions, smart living, distribution and retail, SCG Decor, chemicals and SCGP before treating it as a pure infrastructure proxy.
  • Check dividends realistically: compare declared distributions with free cash flow, debt covenants and planned capital expenditure rather than relying on a headline yield.
  • Review governance and concentration: examine related-party transactions, major shareholders, board oversight, customer concentration and the company’s record of executing announced projects.

Because the available figures do not provide a complete, same-date backlog, leverage or dividend comparison, a precise “best stock” ranking would imply a level of certainty that the data does not support.

Common mistakes when comparing these stocks

Treating sector labels as business equivalence

SCC and ITD share a broad property and construction-related classification, but one is a diversified holding company and the other is a contractor. BGRIM’s utilities classification signals a different revenue model altogether. Sector labels help locate companies; they do not define the cash-flow risk an investor is buying.

Using EV/EBITDA without checking the denominator

ITD’s reported 151.02 multiple is a warning to investigate earnings quality and capital structure, not a standalone sell signal. If EBITDA is unusually depressed, a small change in the denominator can produce a very large multiple. Conversely, a low multiple can hide underinvestment, weak margins or heavy future obligations.

Assuming contracted power means risk-free income

BGRIM’s contracts can improve visibility, but they do not remove interest-rate, fuel, outage, refinancing or regulatory risk. Review how each contract handles costs and volume before assuming that revenue is fixed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Equating backlog with profit

ITD may have substantial work in hand, yet backlog only creates value when projects are executed at acceptable margins and payments arrive on time. Analyse cash collection and contract provisions alongside the headline backlog figure.

Comparing dividend yields from different dates

The 2.09% BGRIM yield is tied to the 14 October 2026 factsheet. It can change with the share price, dividend declaration and trailing-period calculation. The available SCC and ITD data do not state comparable yields, so filling those cells with estimates would create a misleading comparison.

Which is the “better” infrastructure play?

The answer is conditional rather than universal:

  • For diversified exposure connected to materials and building products: SCC remains the reference portfolio, with the trade-off that infrastructure is only one part of the group.
  • For the most direct construction-project sensitivity: ITD is the relevant candidate, but it demands the deepest review of execution, working capital, refinancing and project-level losses.
  • For power-infrastructure and utility exposure: BGRIM is the relevant candidate, with returns shaped by contracts, plant operations, fuel economics, interest rates and capital needs.

Investors should compare each company with the infrastructure outcome they actually want, not force a single league table across materials, contracting and utilities. Before acting, refresh the latest SET filings because the supplied factsheet figures are dated and do not establish a complete cross-company valuation, leverage, backlog or dividend analysis.

Practical checklist for a Thailand infrastructure watchlist

  1. Write the target exposure in one sentence: materials, construction execution or contracted power.
  2. Record the latest share price, market capitalisation, enterprise value, earnings and book value on the same date.
  3. Read the latest annual and interim filings, not only the SET factsheet.
  4. For contractors, reconcile backlog, margin, receivables, advances and cash flow.
  5. For utilities, reconcile capacity, contracts, availability, fuel pass-through, debt and commissioning dates.
  6. Stress-test interest rates, commodity costs, project delays and weaker demand.
  7. Check dividend capacity after maintenance and expansion capital expenditure.
  8. Set a review trigger for results, covenant changes, major contract awards, outages or refinancing announcements.

That process turns “Which stock is best?” into a decision that can be revisited when prices, contracts and financial statements change.
