Microsoft Copilot Pages is the closest overall alternative to Google AI Mode Canvas when you want AI-generated prose that can become an editable document or a small runnable tool. Choose Figma AI prototyping for convincing clickable product flows with connected screens and transitions. Choose Gemini Canvas or Gemini Enterprise Canvas when your team already works in Google’s ecosystem and needs documents, apps, slides, or code in one workspace.
The right choice depends on the artifact you need at the end: an editable brief, a lightweight proof of concept, a high-fidelity UX flow, or an exportable Google or Microsoft document. The comparison below separates those jobs so you can select a tool without assuming that every “AI canvas” works the same way.

What Google AI Mode Canvas actually does
Google describes Canvas in AI Mode as a way to “draft documents or create custom, interactive tools right within Search.” You enter a request in AI Mode, and Canvas produces a working prototype in a side panel. You can inspect the underlying code and continue refining the result through conversation. Google also says the panel can pull together current information from the web and Google’s Knowledge Graph.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThat combination is unusual because it joins three jobs that are normally separate: generating written content, producing a runnable interface, and iterating through natural-language instructions. Most alternatives are stronger in one of those jobs rather than all three. A fair comparison therefore starts with the output you need, not with the word “canvas” in a product name.

Microsoft Copilot Pages: the closest document-plus-prototype replacement
Why it is the nearest match
Microsoft calls Copilot Pages “a dynamic, persistent canvas in Copilot chat designed for AI-powered group collaboration.” You can move a Copilot response into a page beside the chat, edit the content directly, ask Copilot to revise it, and share the resulting page. That persistence is the key difference from a disposable chat answer: the page becomes a working artifact that people can continue to shape.
Copilot Pages also supports code-enabled pages for lightweight applications. You describe an interactive app in natural language, preview the generated code, and use follow-up prompts to change the behavior, user interface, or logic. When the proof of concept is ready, Microsoft documents a handoff to App Builder. This makes Pages the best fit when a project starts as prose and may turn into a small interactive tool.
How to create an interactive page
- Start in Copilot chat. Describe the outcome, audience, content sections, and any interaction you expect. For a document, name the headings and decisions the reader must make. For a tool, specify inputs, outputs, and what should happen after each action.
- Move the response into a page. Use the option that places the Copilot response in a side-by-side Copilot Page. The page is the editable workspace; the chat remains available for additional instructions.
- Establish the document structure. Edit headings, lists, tables, and wording directly, then ask Copilot to make targeted changes such as “turn the risks section into a decision table” or “add an approval status field.”
- Describe the app behavior when needed. Ask for a small interactive page in plain language. Specify each control, the data it accepts, the state before and after an action, and the message shown for invalid input.
- Preview and inspect the generated code. Check that buttons have a visible result, calculations use the intended values, and the page handles an empty or incorrect input. Request one change at a time when debugging.
- Refine the interface and logic conversationally. Prompts such as “keep the current layout but add a reset button” are safer than asking for a complete rewrite, because they preserve the parts that already work.
- Share or hand off. Share the page with collaborators for review. If the prototype has outgrown a lightweight proof of concept, use the documented App Builder handoff rather than treating the page as a finished production application.
Best uses and boundaries
- Best uses: project briefs, research summaries, implementation plans, decision records, calculators, intake forms, checklists, and other small tools whose state can remain in memory.
- Collaboration strength: people can edit the same persistent page and ask Copilot to update it, which keeps the written rationale next to the emerging prototype.
- Main limitation: Pages is not organized around a visual design system in the way Figma is. If you need a polished flow with carefully managed components, screen-to-screen transitions, and design tokens, a dedicated design tool is a better fit.
- Account and storage constraint: Microsoft says work or school users need SharePoint or OneDrive storage. Personal access depends on having an eligible Microsoft 365 subscription, so verify the account before planning a team workflow.
Figma AI prototyping: best for high-fidelity clickable product flows
What it does differently
Figma’s AI prototyping agent is designed to turn static designs into interactive prototypes by connecting screens, setting transitions, and wiring interactions directly in a design file. Its help documentation describes multiple interactions and connections, including navigation menus and back or next buttons, with a preview mode for testing them.
This is the strongest alternative when “prototype” means a believable product experience rather than a quick functional demo. You can preserve reusable components and the visual language your product team already uses, then demonstrate how a user moves through the flow.

A practical Figma AI workflow
- Prepare the design file. Create or import the screens that represent the main states of the experience. Name frames and key components clearly so the requested connections are unambiguous.
- Describe the journey, not just the page. State the entry point, the primary action, the destination screen, and what should happen for back, cancel, save, and error states.
- Ask the AI prototyping agent to connect the screens. Include the desired transition and any interaction conditions. For example, specify that a menu opens from a toolbar icon and that selecting an item navigates to its detail screen.
- Review every generated connection. AI can wire the happy path while missing a close action, disabled state, or return path. Use the interaction panel to check each trigger and destination.
- Preview the prototype. Walk through the flow as a user would, including repeated taps, back navigation, and an incomplete form. Correct the interaction rather than masking a problem with explanatory text.
- Refine within the design system. Replace one-off visual changes with existing components where possible. This keeps the prototype aligned with the files that designers and engineers will maintain.
When Figma is the wrong substitute
Figma is a design and prototyping environment, not a general long-form document workspace. It is awkward for a policy memo, research report, or continuously edited plan whose value is mostly text. The cited interaction feature requires edit access and is available in Figma Design on paid plans, so viewers or comment-only collaborators may not be able to build the flow themselves.
Gemini Canvas and Gemini Enterprise Canvas: Google-native options
Gemini Canvas for mixed documents, apps, slides, and code
Gemini Canvas is an interactive workspace for creating or editing a document, app, slide deck, or code. Google documents exporting text to Google Docs and copying shared Canvas content so another person can continue editing it. If your team already stores working material in Google services, this avoids moving the initial draft into a different ecosystem.
- Open Canvas from Gemini. Start with a prompt that names the artifact type: document, app, slides, or code. Include the intended audience and the format you need to export or share.
- Generate a first version. Ask for the structure before asking for polish. For an app, list the controls, states, and data flow. For slides, identify the narrative and the decision each slide should support.
- Edit in the Canvas workspace. Make direct text or code edits for small corrections, and use follow-up prompts for structural changes. Keep a written change request when several collaborators are working on the same artifact.
- Test the interactive parts. Click through every control or run the code path that matters. A broad Canvas workspace can create a useful demonstration without providing the component-level control expected in a dedicated product-design file.
- Export or copy for the next stage. Send document text to Google Docs, or copy shared Canvas content into the destination workflow. Preserve the original Canvas version until reviewers confirm that formatting and behavior survived the transfer.
Gemini Enterprise Canvas
Enterprise Canvas places documents or slides beside chat and supports export to Google Slides, Microsoft PowerPoint, or PDF. That makes it useful when the final deliverable must be distributed in a standard office format rather than remain inside an AI workspace.
Availability is governed by the organization: an administrator must enable the feature and configure permissions. A missing Canvas option may therefore be an administrative setting rather than a user error. Confirm who can create, share, export, and edit before designing a process around it.

Where Gemini is the better choice
- Choose it when your source material, reviewers, and final files already live in Google Workspace.
- Choose it when one project moves between prose, slides, code, and a simple app instead of staying a pure UX prototype.
- Choose Enterprise Canvas when PowerPoint or PDF export is a formal requirement and your administrator can enable the feature.
- Do not assume it provides the same screen-connection and transition depth as a design-focused prototyping tool; the published material describes a broad workspace, not a complete production UX system.
Microsoft Loop: the collaboration-first alternative
Microsoft Loop is worth considering when the main problem is team co-authoring rather than generating a one-off interactive prototype. Loop’s modular components and real-time editing suit meeting notes, plans, task lists, and decision logs that need to appear in multiple Microsoft 365 contexts.
Use Loop alongside Copilot when a team needs a durable shared workspace and reusable components. Use Copilot Pages when the distinctive requirement is turning an AI response into an editable page or lightweight app. Loop should not be selected as a direct replacement for a clickable multi-screen product flow.
Choose by the artifact you need
| Your requirement | Best starting point | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| An AI-written brief that may become a small calculator or form | Microsoft Copilot Pages | It keeps the prose and lightweight app in one persistent page and supports conversational refinement. |
| A convincing demo of a mobile or web product journey | Figma AI prototyping | Its core job is connecting screens, setting transitions, and previewing interactions. |
| A document, app, slide deck, or code artifact for a Google-based team | Gemini Canvas | It spans those artifact types and provides documented Google Docs and shared-content handoffs. |
| Slides that must leave the AI workspace as Slides, PowerPoint, or PDF | Gemini Enterprise Canvas | Those export paths are explicitly documented, subject to administrator enablement. |
| Real-time editing and reusable team content | Microsoft Loop | Its collaboration model is the priority, even though it is not primarily an AI prototype generator. |
A tool-agnostic method for building a useful interactive artifact
1. Define the smallest valuable interaction
Write the user’s starting state, action, expected result, and recovery path before opening a canvas. “Build a dashboard” is too vague. “Let a manager choose a month, filter by region, see three totals, and reset the filter without losing the selected month” gives an AI tool enough information to create testable behavior.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →2. Separate content from behavior
List the document sections or screen content separately from the interaction rules. This prevents a tool from treating a prose instruction as a button label or inventing a workflow that was never requested. For a form, specify field names, required values, validation, success feedback, and error feedback.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
3. Ask for states and edge cases explicitly
Request empty, loading, success, error, disabled, and reset states where they matter. AI-generated prototypes often look complete because the happy path works; they become useful for review only when a reviewer can see what happens when information is missing or an action is repeated.
4. Iterate in small changes
After the first generation, make one structural or behavioral request at a time. Small prompts make it easier to identify which change introduced a regression and reduce the chance that a working section is replaced unnecessarily.
5. Test the handoff format
Preview the artifact in the format your audience will receive. For a shared page, verify that collaborators can open and edit it. For an exported document or slide deck, check headings, tables, links, and speaker notes. For a prototype, verify that the reviewer can reach every important state without the author explaining what to click.

- Account: confirm whether the feature is available to personal users, work or school users, or only an eligible subscription tier.
- Storage: for Copilot Pages, verify SharePoint or OneDrive storage for organizational accounts before creating a shared process.
- Edit rights: Figma interaction building requires edit access; a viewer link is not enough to modify the prototype.
- Administration: Gemini Enterprise Canvas requires administrator enablement and permission configuration.
- Sharing scope: decide whether collaborators need view, comment, or edit rights, and test the link with an account that has the intended role.
- Data handling: apply your organization’s rules for confidential source material before placing it into any AI workspace or generated code page.
- Handoff ownership: assign a person to maintain the page, design file, or exported document after the initial AI generation; otherwise a prototype can become an unowned snapshot.
Common problems and practical fixes
The feature is missing
Check the account type, subscription eligibility, storage connection, and administrator settings first. Copilot Pages can depend on Microsoft storage, Figma’s interaction feature depends on edit access and a paid Figma Design plan according to its help documentation, and Enterprise Canvas depends on admin enablement.

The result is a document when you asked for an app
State the interaction contract in the first prompt: controls, inputs, outputs, state changes, and validation. Ask for a runnable preview and inspectable code where the tool supports it. Do not rely on the word “interactive” alone; it can be interpreted as editable text rather than behavior.
The prototype has a polished start screen but no complete flow
List every destination and return path, including menu close, cancel, back, save, and error actions. In Figma, inspect the generated connections and transitions rather than judging the flow from a static frame. In a code-enabled page, test each control with empty and invalid values.
Collaboration breaks after sharing
Verify the recipient’s permission level, storage location, and account type. A page that opens for its creator may still be inaccessible to an external reviewer or may open in read-only mode.
The export looks different from the canvas
Treat export as a separate validation step. Compare headings, tables, spacing, embedded code, and interactive behavior in the destination format. Keep the source artifact available until the exported version has passed review.
What the published information does not establish
The official product materials for these tools do not provide a directly comparable statistic for market adoption, generation speed, prototype quality, or reliability. Figma’s stronger fit for high-fidelity flows and Copilot Pages’ closer match for document-to-tool work are capability-based recommendations, not benchmark results. Your own security requirements, account permissions, and handoff process can outweigh the nominal feature list.
Bottom line: which alternative should you use?
Start with Microsoft Copilot Pages if your work begins as AI-generated writing and may become a small runnable tool. Select Figma AI prototyping when the deliverable is a high-fidelity, clickable product flow with connected screens and transitions. Select Gemini Canvas for a Google-native workflow spanning documents, apps, slides, and code, and use Gemini Enterprise Canvas when administrator-controlled access and Slides, PowerPoint, or PDF export are required. Use Microsoft Loop when durable real-time co-authoring and reusable components matter more than AI-generated interactivity.
