If you want cold drinks with your seat but do not want a cooler built into a chair arm, consider a backpack cooler chair, a folding chair with a detachable under-seat cooler, a cooler backpack that converts into a seat, or a separate chair and portable cooler. The right format depends on how much you need to carry, where you want the cooler, and whether you value a single carryable unit or separate gear.
Alternatives at a glance
| Format | Where the cooler goes | Best fit | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Backpack cooler chair | Integrated with the chair, often below the seat | You want one unit to carry and use as a chair | Check its weight, folded size, cooler access, and whether the storage detaches |
| Folding chair with detachable under-seat cooler | Below the seat, with a removable cooler | You want a conventional chair layout but the option to carry the cooler separately | Confirm whether the cooler is accessible while seated and usable on its own |
| Cooler backpack that converts into a seat | In the backpack | You prioritize carrying a cooler and want a seat built into the pack | Do not assume it offers the same support or comfort as a full folding chair |
| Separate folding chair and portable cooler | In a separate cooler | You want to select or replace each piece independently | You have two items to carry and need to manage cooler access separately |
These are different ways to arrange the same essentials, not a performance ranking. Product specifications can help you screen options, but they do not establish comfort, durability, or cooling performance under your conditions.

Backpack cooler chairs
A backpack cooler chair combines seating and insulated storage in one carryable unit. PARKIT’s Voyager is a specific example: the company describes an insulated cooler beneath the seat, backpack carry straps, and a detachable cooler. PARKIT lists space for 15 standard 12-ounce cans, a 16-inch seat height, and a 350 lb weight capacity. It says the chair weighs 12 lb with the cooler empty. These are manufacturer-listed specifications, not independent measurements or comfort findings. See PARKIT’s Voyager specifications.
PARKIT also claims the Voyager is designed to retain ice for 8+ hours. Treat that as the company’s claim, not a comparable test result: the available product information does not establish the conditions for that duration, and no independent, comparable cooling test is available here. PARKIT’s Sunkissed Voyager listing repeats the integrated cooler, carry straps, and ice-retention claim. Its price and stock status can change, so check the listing for current details.

What to check before choosing one
- Cooler access: find out whether you can reach drinks while seated, and whether the cooler’s placement suits how you use the chair.
- Detachment: a removable cooler can be carried separately or left behind when you only need the chair; verify how the maker says it can be used independently.
- Carrying: compare the chair’s weight, folded dimensions, and strap arrangement with the distance you expect to carry it.
- Capacity: compare stated can count or volume with what you need to pack, rather than assuming all advertised capacities are measured the same way.
- Fit: check seat height, width and depth, back support, and weight capacity. Specifications alone cannot tell you whether a chair will feel comfortable.
Folding chair with a detachable under-seat cooler
This layout keeps the familiar folding-chair format while putting the cooler below the seat rather than in an armrest. PARKIT describes its Voyager as having a detachable under-seat cooler and backpack straps, making it an example of this category as well as a backpack cooler chair. Its listed capacity, weight, seat height, and weight limit are specific to that model; they should not be treated as typical figures for every chair with a removable cooler. Check the Voyager product details.
Before buying another chair in this format, look for a clear answer on two practical points: whether you can open the cooler without getting up, and whether the removed cooler has a practical way to be carried or used. Do not infer either feature from the phrase “detachable” alone.

Cooler backpacks that convert into seats
A cooler backpack that converts into a seat starts with the carry-first idea: the cooler is the main format, and the pack provides a place to sit. Kul Stool describes its Kul Stool 2.0 as a backpack cooler that converts into a seat and lists a 6-gallon capacity. Its product description supports the hybrid format, but does not establish comparable weight, cooling duration, or comfort test data. See Kul Stool’s product description.
This style may suit a trip where carrying cooler storage matters more than having the feel or dimensions of a conventional folding chair. Check the maker’s current details for how the seat is formed, how the pack is carried, and whether its capacity and configuration suit your load; do not assume it provides the support of a larger camp chair.

Separate folding chair and portable cooler
A standalone chair paired with a portable cooler is the most modular alternative. You can choose each item separately, replace one without replacing the other, and position the cooler where it is convenient. The trade-off is straightforward: you are handling two pieces of gear, and this setup does not inherently keep drinks within reach while seated. No particular chair-and-cooler pairing is established here, so compare the individual products for carry weight, dimensions, storage capacity, and how you plan to transport them.
How to choose for your outing
If you carry everything from a vehicle
Compare total load and folded dimensions, not just the chair’s advertised weight. A single chair-and-cooler unit can simplify handling, while a detachable cooler lets you split the load. A separate setup gives you more choice but leaves you with two items to manage.
Rank #4
- Inbuilt 4-can cooler pouch ensures your cold drinks are within easy reach
- Fully cushioned seat and back provide optimal support and comfort
- Features a mesh cup holder and side pocket for storing personal items swiftly
- Collapsible and foldable design allows for convenient storage and transport
- Generous 24-inch seating and comfortable 18.1-inch sitting height
If you need drinks close at hand
Check the cooler’s location, opening, and access while seated. An under-seat cooler is not automatically easier to reach than an armrest cooler. If access is essential, look for a product description or demonstration that shows how it opens in use.
If you need more storage
Use the stated capacity to narrow the options, while keeping unlike measures distinct: can count and gallons are not directly interchangeable without more information about usable interior space. PARKIT lists 15 standard 12-ounce cans for the Voyager, while Kul Stool lists 6 gallons for the Kul Stool 2.0. Those figures describe separate products and do not establish a comparative capacity test.

If sitting comfort is the priority
Compare seat height, width and depth, back support, and weight capacity, then consider whether the product’s shape suits how long you will sit. For context, PARKIT lists a 16-inch seat height for the Voyager. Coleman’s search excerpt for its chair with a built-in four-can cooler lists an 18.5-inch seat height, but the official page could not be retrieved for confirmation; verify the current specification directly before using it to compare. Coleman’s product page.
If keeping food and drinks cold is essential
Look for cooling-retention results from independent tests conducted under comparable conditions. A manufacturer’s ice-retention claim can be useful context, but without a stated test method and comparable results for the other options, it cannot show which format or product keeps contents cold longest.

Koozie Group identifies a backpack cooler chair and describes it as a lightweight alternative to bringing a separate large chair and cooler. That description establishes the intended format, but provides no comparable weight here to show that it is lighter than a named alternative. See Koozie Group’s product page.
