If you want a portable tablet that can also control a smart home, the closest match in the supplied options is the Lenovo Smart Tab M10 with Alexa and its Smart Dock—but it is a legacy product, so check the exact model and whether the dock is included before buying. For a screen that is ready for Alexa commands without first being used as a tablet, choose an Echo Show. For a different ecosystem, consider an iPad for Apple Home or a Nest Hub for Google Home.

Which kind of replacement do you need?

- Always-ready Alexa screen: An Echo Show is a dedicated smart display, not a general-purpose tablet. It is the better fit when voice and on-screen smart-home controls matter more than portability or broad app use.
- Tablet in another ecosystem: An iPad can run compatible smart-home apps and Apple Home; a Nest Hub is a compact display designed around Google’s ecosystem.
Whichever route you choose, check that your devices are compatible with the assistant or smart-home platform you plan to use. A screen, dock, or hub does not guarantee that every light, lock, camera, or other device will work with it.

Choose the closest tablet-form Alexa alternative
Lenovo Smart Tab M10 with Alexa and Smart Dock
Lenovo’s Smart Tab M10 family combines a conventional tablet with a docked Show Mode. Lenovo Support says Show Mode supports Alexa commands, content playback, and smart-home control. That combination is the closest fit here if you want to pick up the screen for ordinary tablet use and return it to a dock for a more display-like role.
Availability is the key caveat: this is a legacy product family, and a listing may not include the dock or may describe a different generation. Check the precise model number, condition, included accessories, and whether the Alexa features are supported for your setup before committing.

Choose a dedicated Alexa display
Echo Show 8 for a compact control point
Amazon’s current Echo buying guide lists an 8-inch HD screen and built-in hub support for Zigbee, Matter, and Thread on the Echo Show 8. Amazon also describes voice and on-screen controls for compatible smart-home devices. This is a stronger fit than a tablet if you want a screen that stays in one place and is ready for Alexa use, rather than a device that also serves as a portable computer.
The built-in hub support can reduce the need for a separate hub for compatible devices, but it does not make every smart-home product compatible. Confirm the device’s protocol and ecosystem support before relying on the display as its controller.

Echo Show 15 or Echo Show 21 for a large shared screen
Amazon’s specifications list Full HD screens measuring 15.6 inches for the Echo Show 15 and 21 inches for the Echo Show 21. Its buying guide describes Fire TV and smart-home control on these larger models. They make more sense as prominent room displays than as tablet substitutes: decide where one will sit or mount before choosing a screen this large.
Choose by ecosystem instead of Alexa
iPad (2025) for Apple Home and broad tablet use
An iPad offers ordinary tablet flexibility alongside Apple Home and compatible smart-home apps, according to Tom’s Guide. It is not an Alexa display, and an always-listening Alexa assistant is not built in. Its value is the combination of general tablet tasks and controls for devices that support Apple Home. The tablet does not include a base or mount, so add one to your budget if you want it to remain in a fixed control location.

Nest Hub (2nd Gen) for Google Home
Tom’s Guide describes the Nest Hub (2nd Gen) as a compact 7-inch display for Google’s device ecosystem, with Google voice assistant and no camera. Choose it if your home already centers on Google Home and a dedicated screen is more useful than a tablet. It does not run Alexa; check present software support and local availability before purchase.

A tablet used as a permanent control panel needs a practical place to live. Compare the complete setup: the tablet, a compatible dock or stand, and any mount you need. For the Lenovo option, verify that the dock is actually included. For the iPad, plan for a separate stand or mount if it will stay in one place. A dedicated Echo Show or Nest Hub is already designed as a stationary display, but its placement and camera preferences still matter.

Also consider whether you want hands-free access, a camera, or a particular smart-home protocol. The Nest Hub (2nd Gen) has no camera; the cited Amazon Echo Show guide lists hub support on the Echo Show 8. The product descriptions cited here do not establish that every model has the same privacy controls or protocol support, so check the exact model’s current specifications for details that matter to you.
What Amazon’s newer Alexa tablets change
Amazon announced Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, 11, and 8 models with Alexa+ integrated, smart-home controls, and access to Google Play. The announcement gives a starting price of $229, which is Amazon’s launch-price statement rather than an independently verified current price. These are Amazon devices, so they may be relevant if you are considering a newer Amazon tablet, but they are not third-party alternatives to Fire.
