There is no single best AI tool for every ecommerce store. Shopify Sidekick is the most direct fit if you want to draft inside Shopify admin; ChatGPT is useful for exploring different copy angles; Jasper is worth evaluating for brand-guided team workflows; and Writesonic fits merchants who want product copy alongside SEO and AI-shopping visibility work. These are workflow recommendations described by Shopify, not independently tested rankings. Choose based on your platform, catalog, editorial controls, and SEO needs—and verify the result on your own product pages.
Which AI product-description tool fits your store?
The practical choice is less about a universal winner and more about where drafting happens, how many products and people are involved, and what review process your team needs. Shopify’s 2026 ecommerce SEO overview describes the following workflow fits:

| Tool | Best fit | Workflow to expect | What the available guidance establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shopify Sidekick | Merchants who want an in-admin starting point | Generate suggested copy in the Shopify product editor, then edit and save | Shopify describes its integration and drafting process; it does not establish comparative performance. |
| ChatGPT | Flexible brainstorming and multiple copy angles | Use natural-language prompts for product descriptions and related marketing copy | Shopify describes it as a flexible drafting option; the source does not establish a native Shopify catalog workflow or comparative copy performance. |
| Jasper | Teams that need brand guidance and repeatable content workflows | Use brand voice and guidelines for ecommerce content, including product and category pages | Shopify describes Jasper Agents’ intended capabilities and enterprise-oriented scale; it does not establish independent performance superiority. |
| Writesonic | Merchants combining product copy with SEO and AI-shopping visibility work | Generate keyword-optimized descriptions and related content as part of a broader visibility workflow | Shopify describes SEO and shopping-visibility features; verify current feature availability and plan details directly with Writesonic. |
Use the table to narrow the shortlist, not to assume one tool writes better copy or produces more sales. Shopify’s guidance identifies no comparative effectiveness statistic or proven conversion lift for these tools.

Shopify Sidekick: draft a description in Shopify admin
Shopify’s documented flow is in the product editor on desktop. Open a product, select Generate text, enter a prompt, then review and format the suggestion before saving. The saved description appears on the published product. Shopify says description generation is not supported on iPhone or Android.
#1 Best Overall
For a useful starting prompt, Shopify recommends including at least the product title and two feature or keyword items. More context can help: product type, intended customer, specifications, tone, intended use, and important brand terms.
How to write a prompt that stays grounded in product facts
- Assemble verified specifications. Start with an authoritative source for the product title and category, then collect the materials, dimensions, fit, intended use, care instructions, variants, and differentiators that are actually supported.
- Describe the reader and the voice. Identify the intended buyer and their needs. Add the desired tone, required terminology, and relevant search phrases. Keep verified facts distinct from assumptions about what customers might value.
- Request alternatives. Ask for several distinct drafts or angles, rather than treating the first response as finished copy. Choose a useful version and edit it for the actual product and storefront.
- Set boundaries. Ask the tool to use only the supplied facts and not to invent product benefits, certifications, comparisons, or performance claims. This instruction helps focus the draft but does not replace fact-checking.
For example, a prompt could say: “Write three concise product-description options for [product title]. Use only these verified details: [feature or keyword one], [feature or keyword two], [specifications]. The intended buyer is [audience], and the tone should be [tone]. Include [required terms] naturally. Do not add claims beyond the facts provided.” Replace the brackets with product-specific information and confirm every statement before publishing.

Review AI copy before publishing
AI output can contain benefits or facts that were not provided, including details inferred from similar published products. Shopify Help Center says: “You’re responsible for the accuracy of all of the content that you publish to your store, even when you use automatic text generation to create it.” Treat generated copy as a draft, not a verified product specification.
- Check each factual, comparative, safety, health, environmental, and performance statement against reliable product evidence.
- Remove unsupported superlatives and any benefit the product information does not substantiate.
- Review brand voice, clarity, scannability, accessibility, and the requirements of your ecommerce platform.
- Confirm that details match the specific variant being sold, especially where size, material, fit, or features differ.
- Have the appropriate person review and approve the copy before publication, particularly when claims carry legal or customer-safety implications.
Measure results instead of assuming a conversion lift
Shopify’s writing guidance lists product-page conversion rate, cart abandonment, return rate, support inquiries, and organic search rankings as metrics merchants can monitor. None of those measures alone proves that AI-written copy caused a change. Where practical, compare versions under controlled conditions, allow an appropriate measurement period, and account for other changes to the product page or traffic. The reviewed guidance does not establish that any one of these tools improves conversion or ranking by a specific amount.
