Best overall approach: choose an app according to the restriction that carries the greatest safety consequence, then verify every generated meal yourself. PerfectPlate is the strongest advertised option for restaurant menus and broad allergen filtering; NourishFix is designed for households with conflicting diabetes, sodium and vegetarian requirements; Nutrig combines planning with ongoing nutrient tracking; Nourvi emphasizes USDA/Open Food Facts scoring and grocery automation; Mealique is a general low-cost planner; and Acara Plate is the most diabetes-focused of the group. None should be treated as a diagnosis, a medication instruction or a guarantee that a meal is allergen-safe or will produce a particular blood-glucose result.
What an AI meal-planning app can—and cannot—do
AI meal planners turn preferences and constraints into recipes, schedules and shopping lists. Depending on the app, you may enter allergies, a vegetarian pattern, calorie or carbohydrate targets, household members, ingredients already in the refrigerator, cuisine preferences and health context. The software then proposes meals and may calculate nutrients from a recipe or food database.

That is useful for reducing decision fatigue, but it is not the same as clinical nutrition care. A generated plan can contain an incorrect ingredient interpretation, an incomplete restaurant menu, a cross-contact risk or a carbohydrate estimate that does not match the product label. For food allergies, inspect the complete ingredient list and the manufacturer’s cross-contact statement. For diabetes, compare carbohydrate totals and any medication-related advice with your clinician. Treat all six products below as planning aids, not medical devices.

Why it stands out
The restaurant-menu analysis is the differentiator. It can be useful when the main problem is deciding what to order rather than cooking every meal at home. A broad allergen filter also gives you a practical starting point for screening a large recipe or menu collection.
Important limits
These are vendor-advertised capabilities, not independent clinical validation. “Filtered” does not mean a dish is safe: restaurant recipes, shared fryers, preparation surfaces and supplier substitutions can create cross-contact that no menu parser can see. Ask the restaurant about the current ingredients and preparation process before ordering.
Nutrig: planning tied to nutrient and personal-context tracking
Inputs beyond a diet label
Nutrig describes a planner that considers allergies, goals, what you already have in the refrigerator and how you felt after a previous meal. You can select vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian, keto or paleo patterns, flag allergies, set calorie or macro targets and adjust portions.
Recommended Free Tools
Tracking that changes the workflow
The feature set includes tracking for carbohydrates, fiber, sugar and sodium. That makes Nutrig more than a one-time recipe generator: you can compare a planned meal with what you actually ate and record your response. Such notes can help you identify preferences or recurring problems, but they do not establish a medical cause and should not replace professional evaluation.
Best fit and open questions
Choose Nutrig when you want the plan and the food log in one place, especially if using leftovers and portion changes is important. Its feature description does not establish a particular grocery-list system, named nutrition database or clinician-facing limit workflow, so confirm those details during setup if they are essential.
NourishFix: built for households with conflicting requirements
One plan for different people
NourishFix gives an example household containing a parent with diabetes, a partner limiting salt and a vegetarian child. You can enter carbohydrate or sodium limits supplied by a care team and combine them with allergy and vegetarian requirements. This is a useful model for families that cannot simply select one diet for everyone.

Recipe and nutrient-data claims
The service says meals come from checked recipes and that nutrition numbers are estimated from the USDA, the United Kingdom’s CoFID tables and Australia’s AUSNUT tables. Database estimates still depend on the exact ingredients, brands, preparation and serving size used in a recipe. Weigh or measure ingredients when precision matters, and compare the result with package labeling.

Enter the limits exactly as your care team gave them rather than inventing a target. Review each serving for hidden sodium, sauces and substitutions, and have a clinician or registered dietitian review the resulting pattern when medication, kidney disease or another condition affects your needs.
Nourvi: database scoring and an automatic grocery list
Diet and cuisine controls
Nourvi says it builds weekly plans around goals, cuisines and allergies. Its listed patterns include vegetarian, vegan, keto, paleo, Mediterranean, halal and gluten-free eating. That combination is helpful when a cultural or ethical pattern must coexist with an allergy rather than be treated as a separate plan.
How its nutrition scoring is described
The app says it scores meals against USDA and Open Food Facts nutrition data. Those sources can improve consistency compared with an entirely free-form generator, but a score is only as reliable as the recipe quantities and product match behind it. Check branded products and packaged foods against the label you actually bought.
Shopping workflow
Nourvi advertises an automatically generated grocery list. Before shopping, merge duplicate ingredients, adjust quantities for the number of diners and remove items you already have. The available description does not establish restaurant analysis, advanced household profiles or clinician-entered limits.
Mealique: a general planner with allergy onboarding and barcode lookup
Core planning features
Mealique says its AI assembles a week of meals around calorie and macro targets from a recipe library. You can choose patterns such as vegan or vegetarian and enter allergies. It also advertises grocery lists, barcode lookup through Open Food Facts and tracking.

Why it may suit a budget-conscious user
The product page presents the core planner, recipes, lists and tracking as free to use. Treat that as a current product statement rather than a permanent price: subscription tiers, limits, regional availability and barcode coverage can change, so check the in-app terms before relying on a free workflow.
What to verify
Barcode databases can contain incomplete or outdated entries. Scan the package, then compare calories, carbohydrate, sodium and allergen statements with the physical label. Mealique’s description does not establish restaurant-menu analysis, multi-person clinical limits or a named source beyond Open Food Facts for barcode lookup.
Acara Plate: a diabetes-focused option with broader health context
Structured inputs
Acara Plate describes support for allergies, medications, medical conditions, biometrics and household context. It builds plans from ingredients in USDA FoodData Central. Entering medication and condition information can make a plan more context-aware, but it also increases the importance of privacy review and clinician oversight.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Its safety boundary
Acara Plate states that the tool is supplementary and that meal plans and health decisions should be discussed with a healthcare provider. Follow that boundary: do not change insulin, other medication or treatment because an AI-generated plan suggests it. Restaurant analysis and grocery-list functions are not established in the available product description.
Which app is best for a specific need?
Food allergies, including several at once
Start with the app that lets you express every allergen separately rather than relying on a broad label such as “free from.” PerfectPlate explicitly advertises filters for all 14 major allergens. NourishFix, Nutrig, Nourvi and Mealique describe allergy entry, while Acara Plate describes structured allergy handling. After generation, inspect every ingredient, spice blend, packaged component and substitution. For a severe allergy, confirm the manufacturer’s current label and cross-contact warning and ask restaurants about shared equipment.
Diabetes and carbohydrate targets
Use NourishFix when a care team has supplied carbohydrate or sodium limits for multiple household members. Nutrig is a reasonable fit for users who want carbohydrate tracking alongside portions and other nutrients. PerfectPlate and Mealique advertise macro or calorie matching, but the available descriptions do not establish clinician-entered limits. Acara Plate is the most explicitly diabetes-focused and includes medications, conditions and biometrics, with a stated requirement to involve a healthcare provider.

Vegetarian eating with another restriction
All six options can accommodate some form of restriction, but their combinations differ. PerfectPlate lists vegetarian and diabetic-friendly approaches; Nutrig supports vegetarian and vegan choices; Nourvi combines vegetarian or vegan patterns with options such as gluten-free and halal; Mealique supports vegan or vegetarian selection; NourishFix’s household example includes a vegetarian child; and Acara Plate describes vegetarian needs through household context rather than listing a dedicated pattern in the available description. Select the vegetarian rule first, then add allergies and health limits so the generator cannot satisfy one requirement by violating another.

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Several people sharing one kitchen
NourishFix has the clearest household use case because its example combines diabetes, sodium reduction and vegetarian eating. Nutrig can use refrigerator contents, and Acara Plate accepts household context, but their descriptions do not specify the same multi-person limit workflow. If an app cannot create separate servings or constraints, plan a common base meal with individual toppings or portions and verify each person’s serving.
Automatic grocery lists
Nourvi explicitly advertises an automatic list. Mealique advertises grocery lists, and NourishFix’s checked recipes can support a household shopping plan, although an automatic-list workflow is not stated. Nutrig’s and Acara Plate’s available descriptions do not establish grocery-list capability. Regardless of the app, check units, serving counts, duplicate ingredients and pantry items before buying.
Restaurant meals rather than home cooking
PerfectPlate is the clear choice among these descriptions because it advertises restaurant-menu analysis. The other products focus on recipes, plans, tracking or household context; restaurant coverage is either not stated or not a central feature. Menu data can change daily, so contact the restaurant when an exposure could be serious.
Nutrition-data provenance
NourishFix names USDA, UK CoFID and Australia AUSNUT tables; Nourvi names USDA and Open Food Facts; Acara Plate names USDA FoodData Central; Mealique names Open Food Facts for barcode lookup. Nutrig describes nutrient tracking without naming a database, and PerfectPlate advertises ingredient information without identifying a data source. A named database improves traceability, but it does not remove the need to match the exact product and serving you consume.
A safe setup process for any AI meal planner
- Write a constraint sheet. List each allergy, the exact vegetarian rule, foods you will not eat, carbohydrate or sodium limits from your care team, household members and the number of servings.
- Separate medical limits from preferences. Mark clinician-provided targets as fixed. Keep dislikes, cuisine preferences and budget as flexible preferences so the app does not trade away a safety requirement.
- Choose the narrowest accurate profile. Select vegetarian or vegan rather than a vague “plant-forward” preference, and enter each allergen individually where the app allows it.
- Set portions before generating. A correct nutrient value for one serving becomes misleading when the household eats two or when a recipe is divided unevenly.
- Review the first plan manually. Open every recipe, inspect sauces and packaged ingredients, and check the carbohydrate, sodium and allergen information against labels.
- Replace uncertain ingredients. If a database entry has no brand, serving size or complete allergen statement, substitute a product with a readable current label and recalculate the serving.
- Export or edit the shopping list. Remove pantry items, combine duplicates and confirm that quantities match the number of meals and diners.
- Monitor what actually happened. Record substitutions, portions and symptoms or glucose readings according to your clinician’s plan. Use the log to improve future planning, not to self-diagnose or alter medication.
Common failure modes and fixes
The plan contains an allergen despite an allergy filter
Filters may miss synonyms, compound ingredients or cross-contact. Recheck the full recipe and label, search for alternate names, contact the manufacturer and discard the meal if you cannot establish safety.

Carbohydrate totals do not match your meter or label
Recipe databases may use a different product, edible weight or preparation method. Re-enter the exact brand and quantity, compare total carbohydrate rather than assumptions about “healthy” ingredients, and ask your care team how to handle recurring discrepancies.
A household plan satisfies one person but not another
Use separate profiles or servings when available. Otherwise, create a shared base without the restricted ingredient and add optional components at the table, labeling each portion clearly.
The grocery list is impractical
AI lists often split the same ingredient across recipes or use units that do not match store packaging. Consolidate quantities, convert units, check pantry stock and plan substitutions before leaving home.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The app treats a preference as a medical prescription
Do not follow medication, insulin or treatment instructions generated by software. Keep clinician-set targets in your written care plan and use the app only to organize food choices around them.
Privacy, pricing and availability checks
Feature descriptions do not establish that all apps are available in every country, support every language or retain the same database coverage over time. Before creating a detailed profile, read the privacy policy and determine whether medication, biometrics, symptoms, barcode scans or household data are stored or shared.
Pricing information is limited. Mealique’s page presents core planning, recipes, lists and tracking as free, but current prices and usage limits should be checked in the app. The available descriptions do not provide comparable prices for the other products, so a price ranking would be unreliable. Also verify whether an app’s nutrition database reflects the country where you shop; USDA, CoFID, AUSNUT and Open Food Facts entries can differ in products, labeling conventions and serving definitions.
Bottom-line recommendations
- Choose PerfectPlate if restaurant menus and the broadest advertised allergen filtering matter most.
- Choose NourishFix for a household combining diabetes, sodium limits, allergies and vegetarian eating.
- Choose Nutrig if you want planning connected to portions, nutrient tracking, refrigerator ingredients and post-meal notes.
- Choose Nourvi for USDA/Open Food Facts scoring and an automatic weekly grocery list.
- Choose Mealique for a general planner with allergy entry, barcode lookup and a product page that currently presents core features as free.
- Consider Acara Plate when a diabetes-focused workflow needs allergy, medication, condition and biometric context, provided your healthcare professional remains involved.
The safest choice is the one whose inputs match your real constraints and whose output you are willing to verify meal by meal. AI can organize the work; it cannot take responsibility for an allergen exposure, a medication decision or a blood-glucose outcome.
