The Nintendo Switch Lite is the lower-cost choice if you want a Nintendo handheld; the Steam Deck OLED is a better fit for a Steam library. Lenovo’s Legion Go S and ASUS’s ROG Ally X are PC handhelds for buyers willing to compare configurations—and, in the Ally X’s case, consider a premium option. None is a like-for-like replacement for Switch 2, especially if you want Nintendo exclusives.
Choose by game library first
Start with the games, not the hardware. TechRadar’s 2026 guide advises choosing Switch 2 for Nintendo exclusives and points PC-oriented players toward Steam Deck. A lower-priced device is poor value if it cannot play the games you bought it for. TechRadar’s handheld console guide is the source for these recommendations.

- Want Nintendo games in a portable-only format? Consider Switch Lite, while checking whether the particular games you want support it.
- Already own games on Steam? Consider Steam Deck OLED, but check compatibility game by game; some games run poorly on it.
- Need a PC handheld with a particular operating system or storefront? Compare the Legion Go S and ROG Ally X by exact model and configuration rather than assuming every version offers the same experience.

| Device | Best fit | What the sources establish | Price context |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch Lite | Lower-cost Nintendo handheld play | TechRadar lists a smaller, portable form. It is not a Switch 2 equivalent. | TechRadar’s 2026 guide lists $199.99 / £200. These are guide prices, not a guarantee of current local retail price or stock. |
| Steam Deck OLED | Playing a Steam library on a handheld PC | TechRadar lists a 7.4-inch OLED display, 512GB or 1TB storage, and 2–8 hours of battery life. Game compatibility varies. | A Held Games comparison updated October 1, 2026, lists approximately $789; it is a secondary-source figure, not a live, uniform price survey. |
| Lenovo Legion Go S | Buyers comparing a SteamOS handheld with other PC configurations | Lenovo describes a Ryzen Z2 Go version and a SteamOS model with access to the Steam ecosystem. Lenovo’s pages describe configurations up to 32GB memory and 1TB storage; check the exact SKU. | Held Games lists approximately $649–$829 across models in its October 1, 2026 comparison. The range is not a confirmed current price for every configuration. |
| ASUS ROG Ally X | Buyers who want Windows and access to multiple PC storefronts | ASUS identifies the RC72LA as a Windows 11 handheld using Ryzen Z1 Extreme, with up to 24GB LPDDR5X RAM and up to 2TB storage. This is a secondary-source comparison figure; TechRadar characterizes the ROG Ally X as premium. |

When Switch Lite is the sensible budget pick
TechRadar’s 2026 guide names Switch Lite its budget pick and lists it at $199.99 / £200. It makes sense if your priority is a lower-cost Nintendo-branded handheld and its portable-only form suits you. It is not a cheaper version of Switch 2 with the same capabilities: treat it as an earlier, handheld-only option, and verify support for the Nintendo games you intend to play.

When a PC handheld is worth considering
Steam Deck OLED for a Steam library
Steam Deck OLED is the clearest option here if your existing PC games are on Steam. TechRadar lists a 7.4-inch OLED display, 512GB or 1TB of storage, and battery life of 2–8 hours. That battery range is the guide’s stated figure, not a promise for every game or setting. Compatibility is another important check: the same guide notes that some games run poorly, so look up the games you care about before buying.
Legion Go S for configuration choice
Legion Go S is not one fixed specification. Lenovo lists a Ryzen Z2 Go version and a separate Legion Go S Gen 1 Powered by SteamOS model. Its product pages describe configurations up to 32GB of memory and 1TB of storage; those maximums should not be assumed to apply to every SKU. Confirm the operating system, processor, memory, and storage on the exact listing, then compare its local price with the Steam Deck OLED configuration you would actually buy. Lenovo Legion Go S and Legion Go S Gen 1 Powered by SteamOS.

- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps

ROG Ally X for Windows storefront flexibility
ASUS presents the ROG Ally X (2024) RC72LA as a Windows 11 handheld built around the Ryzen Z1 Extreme, with up to 24GB LPDDR5X RAM and up to 2TB storage. ASUS says it supports Steam, Xbox Game Pass, Epic, GOG, and other storefronts. That flexibility may matter if you need Windows or want access beyond Steam, but TechRadar describes it as a premium option, so it is not the natural choice for a strict budget. Confirm the configuration and current price on the ASUS ROG Ally X product page.

How to make a fair comparison
- Write down the games you need to play. Separate Nintendo exclusives from games you own on Steam or other PC storefronts.
- Check compatibility for specific titles. For Steam Deck OLED in particular, do not assume every Steam game performs well.
- Compare the exact configuration. For Legion Go S, check whether the listing is the SteamOS model or another version, as well as processor, memory, and storage. For other devices, confirm the listed storage and model.
- Compare current local prices on the same date. Account for region, retailer, storage, and any promotion; the published figures above come from different sources and cannot establish which device is cheapest where you live.
- Match portability and battery expectations to your use. Consider the Switch Lite’s smaller handheld form and the Steam Deck OLED’s 7.4-inch screen; treat the listed 2–8-hour Deck battery figure as a range, not a guarantee for your games.
