The LG UltraGear 27GR83Q-B is the best affordable 1440p 240Hz gaming monitor for most buyers. It pairs a 27-inch 2560×1440 IPS panel with 240Hz, a rated 1ms GtG response time, VESA DisplayHDR 400, adaptive sync for both major GPU platforms, HDMI 2.1, USB and a fully adjustable stand. TechSpot listed it at $270 on Amazon in its May 29, 2025 guide, although that was a dated snapshot rather than a guaranteed current price.
If the KTC H27E6S is cheaper and in stock where you live, it is a strong value alternative. Choose a 240Hz QD-OLED such as the Gigabyte AORUS FO27Q2 only if you can justify the higher price and want OLED contrast, near-instant response and more convincing HDR. OLED models differ substantially in brightness, warranty terms and burn-in protection, so the panel type alone does not determine the best buy.

The short list: which monitor should you buy?
| Monitor | Panel and size | Refresh and response claim | What it is best for | Price evidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LG UltraGear 27GR83Q-B | 27-inch 2560×1440 IPS | 240Hz; 1ms GtG | Best mainstream value, broad adaptive-sync support and practical connectivity | TechSpot recorded $270 on Amazon on May 29, 2025; verify today’s local price |
| KTC H27E6S | 27-inch 1440p IPS-class value model | 240Hz | Lowest purchase cost when a local retailer has stock | DisplayNinja called it excellent value on October 17, 2026, but gave no universal price |
| Gigabyte AORUS FO27Q2 | 27-inch 1440p QD-OLED | 240Hz; 0.03ms GtG | OLED contrast, very fast pixel response, KVM and premium features | Premium pricing; regional price and warranty terms vary |
| Recent 27-inch QD-OLED examples | 27-inch 1440p QD-OLED | 240Hz | Alternative OLED designs from Dell Alienware, Gigabyte, MSI and Asus | TechSpot examples around $350–$400 in its roundup; dated snapshots |
The table separates a practical value purchase from an image-quality upgrade. A 240Hz label is only useful when your computer can render frames quickly enough for the games you play, and a monitor’s HDR badge does not tell you how bright highlights will look in real scenes.

A balanced 27-inch 1440p format
At 27 inches and 2560×1440, the LG offers a useful balance of desktop space, pixel density and viewing distance. Text and game interfaces are sharper than 1080p at the same size, while the resolution is less demanding than 4K for high-refresh gaming. The 27-inch size also fits common single-monitor and two-monitor desks without requiring an unusually deep tabletop.

240Hz with an IPS response profile
LG rates the 27GR83Q-B at 240Hz and 1ms GtG. The high refresh rate reduces the time between displayed frames and can make aiming and camera movement look cleaner when the graphics card is producing high frame rates. The 1ms figure is a manufacturer rating, not a guarantee that every overdrive mode will be free of overshoot. Use the monitor’s moderate response-time setting first and check moving test patterns or your own games before selecting the most aggressive mode.
Adaptive sync for mixed hardware
LG lists NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible and AMD FreeSync Premium support. That makes the monitor a safer choice for a household that may change graphics cards, or for a system that uses one GPU brand today and another later. Adaptive sync varies the display refresh to follow the game’s frame output, reducing tearing when the frame rate moves around. It cannot create additional frames and does not replace a sensible frame-rate cap.
Useful ports and an adjustable stand
The official specification includes HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort, USB and a stand with height and pivot adjustment. HDMI 2.1 is valuable if you want one display for a gaming PC and a current console, although the console’s own output limits still apply. Height and pivot adjustment help you place the top of the screen at a comfortable eye level and rotate it for portrait-oriented work.

What the HDR400 label does and does not mean
VESA DisplayHDR 400 confirms a baseline HDR certification, but it is not equivalent to the deep blacks and bright highlights produced by a self-emissive OLED panel or a monitor with many local-dimming zones. Treat the LG’s HDR as a useful compatibility feature rather than the reason to buy it. For competitive games and mixed desktop use, its IPS image and lower risk of permanent image retention may matter more than cinematic HDR.
The KTC H27E6S: the value alternative
DisplayNinja’s guide, updated October 17, 2026, describes the KTC H27E6S as an excellent-value affordable 27-inch 1440p 240Hz monitor. It is the model to check when your priority is the lowest upfront cost and a retailer near you has dependable stock.
No universal current price was established for the H27E6S, so do not treat a marketplace listing, a temporary coupon or a price in another country as a standard cost. Check the exact regional listing for warranty length, return shipping, dead-pixel policy, included cables and the power plug before ordering.

When KTC makes more sense than LG
- It is substantially less expensive after shipping and taxes.
- The seller offers a straightforward return window and local warranty service.
- You need the same 27-inch, 1440p and 240Hz class of specification but do not need the LG’s documented HDMI 2.1, USB or pivot-stand combination.
When to pay for the LG instead
- The price gap is small enough that the LG’s broader connectivity and stand adjustment are worth it.
- You are buying from a region where LG support and replacement parts are easier to access.
- You want a specification sheet that explicitly names G-SYNC Compatible, FreeSync Premium, DisplayHDR 400 and a 1ms GtG rating.
DisplayNinja also identifies the Sansui ES-G25F6Q Pro as an alternative for shoppers who prefer a smaller screen. The available information does not establish a universal price or a stronger overall feature set, so treat it as a size-specific option rather than a better general recommendation.

Gigabyte AORUS FO27Q2
The AORUS FO27Q2 uses a 27-inch 2560×1440 QD-OLED panel at 240Hz. Gigabyte specifies a 0.03ms gray-to-gray response time, 99% DCI-P3 coverage, an integrated KVM and AI-based OLED Care features. QD-OLED pixels can switch extremely quickly and turn off individually, giving you much deeper blacks and higher perceived contrast than a conventional IPS backlight.
Gigabyte describes the FO27Q2 as one of its fastest and most responsive OLED gaming monitors. Its premium three-year warranty includes panel burn-in coverage according to Gigabyte, but the precise conditions vary by region. Confirm the written terms for your country; a warranty that covers manufacturing defects is not automatically the same as one that covers burn-in.

What OLED improves in games
- Contrast: pixels can approach true black without the gray glow common to an IPS panel in a dark room.
- Motion response: OLED transitions are generally much faster than LCD transitions, so a moving 240Hz image can look cleaner without relying on extreme overdrive.
- HDR impact: a bright object against black space can look more dramatic because neighboring pixels do not need to stay illuminated.
- Color volume and gamut: the FO27Q2 is specified for 99% DCI-P3, giving games and video a wide-gamut presentation when the content and operating system are configured correctly.
What OLED complicates
- Static content: a desktop with fixed taskbars, browser controls or spreadsheets can accelerate uneven pixel wear. Use the monitor’s pixel-shift, logo-dimming, panel-refresh and sleep features rather than disabling OLED-care functions.
- Brightness behavior: OLED monitors may reduce full-screen brightness to control heat and power. A model with spectacular small-window HDR highlights can still look less bright on a mostly white web page.
- Text rendering: subpixel layouts can produce colored fringes around small text on some OLED models. Evaluate text at your normal scaling and viewing distance during the return period.
- Cost and warranty: OLED models cost more than the value IPS choices, and burn-in coverage differs by region and manufacturer.
Brightness tiers: not every 240Hz OLED is the same
TechSpot’s 2026 OLED roundup separates recent 240Hz QD-OLED designs into materially different brightness classes. Full-brightness examples are typically rated around 250 nits in SDR and up to 1,000 nits peak HDR. Limited-brightness versions are around 200 nits SDR and 400 nits HDR. These are representative figures from the roundup, not a promise that every model reaches them in every window size or picture mode.
| OLED brightness class | Typical SDR figure in the roundup | Typical peak HDR figure in the roundup | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full-brightness examples | About 250 nits | Up to about 1,000 nits | Better suited to bright specular effects and rooms where you need more headroom |
| Limited-brightness examples | About 200 nits | About 400 nits | Still benefits from OLED contrast, but HDR highlights are less forceful |
Use these tiers to ask a specific question: do you value dark-room contrast and instantaneous response, or do you need a bright, consistent desktop image in a sunlit room? A well-calibrated IPS monitor can be the more comfortable all-day choice even when an OLED wins in contrast.

IPS versus QD-OLED for 1440p at 240Hz
| Decision factor | IPS, such as the LG 27GR83Q-B | QD-OLED, such as the FO27Q2 |
|---|---|---|
| Black level and contrast | Backlight-dependent; dark scenes can look gray in a dark room | Per-pixel light control gives much deeper blacks |
| Motion at 240Hz | Very good when overdrive is tuned correctly; rated 1ms on the LG | Extremely fast pixel transitions; FO27Q2 is rated 0.03ms GtG |
| HDR | LG carries DisplayHDR 400; impact is limited without strong local dimming | More dramatic contrast, but brightness depends on the OLED tier and window size |
| Static desktop use | Usually simpler for long sessions with fixed interfaces | Requires OLED-care habits and acceptance of burn-in risk |
| Text and productivity | Predictable LCD subpixel rendering | Inspect small text for fringing at your chosen scaling |
| Price | Historically budget-oriented; LG was listed at $270 in May 2025 | Premium; recent examples were about $350–$400 in TechSpot’s dated roundup |
| Warranty | Check the seller and manufacturer terms | Confirm whether panel burn-in is explicitly covered in your region |
How much should you spend?
The only concrete budget reference in the supplied price evidence is TechSpot’s $270 Amazon listing for the LG 27GR83Q-B captured on May 29, 2025. That figure may have been a sale price and should not be presented as a 2026 standard. DisplayNinja’s October 17, 2026 discussion of the KTC H27E6S establishes value positioning but not a universal dollar amount.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Check your PC before paying for 240Hz
There is no universal graphics-card requirement established for 1440p at 240Hz. The achievable frame rate depends on the game engine, image-quality settings, ray tracing, upscaling, CPU, GPU and background workload. A powerful system may exceed 240 frames per second in a competitive shooter at reduced settings, while a demanding single-player game may remain far below 240 even with a high-end card.
- Measure your actual games. Use the game’s built-in benchmark or a trusted frame-time overlay at 2560×1440 with the settings you intend to use.
- Look at sustained and 1% low performance. A peak counter above 240 does not mean the experience is consistently using the panel’s refresh range.
- Choose a sensible cap. If frame pacing is steadier below 240, cap the game near that level and keep adaptive sync enabled.
- Use the correct connection. Select DisplayPort or an HDMI input and cable combination that supports 2560×1440 at 240Hz; then verify the mode in your operating system and GPU control panel.
- Enable the monitor’s maximum refresh rate. Windows and graphics drivers can default to 60Hz after installation or a display change.
Buying a 240Hz monitor still makes sense when your current GPU cannot sustain 240 in every title: you gain a lower-latency panel and room for a future GPU upgrade. Do not, however, expect the display alone to make a game run faster.

The LG’s HDMI 2.1 input is a practical advantage for a mixed PC-and-console setup. Verify the console’s supported resolution and refresh modes, because a console may not output 1440p at 240Hz even when the monitor can. Use DisplayPort for a PC when it offers the most reliable high-refresh mode, and reserve HDMI for the device that needs it.
A built-in USB hub reduces cable swapping for a keyboard, mouse or headset. The FO27Q2’s KVM can route USB peripherals between two connected computers, which is useful for a gaming desktop and a work laptop. KVM behavior depends on the monitor’s USB and video connections, so follow the model’s manual rather than assuming every port combination switches automatically.
Stand, desk and viewing checks
- Height: adjust the panel so you are not tilting your head upward for long sessions.
- Tilt and pivot: use tilt for glare control and pivot only when the stand and cable loop allow safe rotation.
- VESA mounting: confirm the mounting pattern and screw depth before buying an arm; the available data does not establish a universal pattern for every model.
- Desk depth: leave enough distance for a 27-inch screen at 100% or your preferred scaling without pushing the panel into a bright window.
- Lighting: avoid placing a strong lamp directly behind you if it reflects from the screen, and avoid a window directly behind the display when judging HDR.
Buying checklist for a safe purchase
- Confirm the exact model suffix. Similar names can identify different refresh rates, resolutions or panel generations.
- Check the retailer’s stock, delivery date and return window in your country.
- Read the dead-pixel and backlight-defect policy before opening the box.
- Verify which cables are included and whether they are rated for 1440p at 240Hz.
- For OLED, read the regional burn-in warranty and the required maintenance procedure.
- Compare the delivered total, not a pre-tax headline price from another market.
- Save the receipt and record the serial number in case a warranty claim is needed.
First-day setup and troubleshooting
If the monitor only shows 60Hz
- Open Windows Settings, choose System, then Display, Advanced display, and select 240Hz from the refresh-rate menu.
- Open the NVIDIA or AMD control panel and select 2560×1440 at 240Hz under the display-resolution options.
- Reseat the cable, try the other high-bandwidth input and remove any dock, adapter or receiver that may be limiting the signal.
If adaptive sync flickers
- Update the graphics driver and monitor firmware if the manufacturer provides one.
- Test the monitor’s normal overdrive mode rather than its fastest setting.
- Set a frame-rate cap below the top of the variable-refresh range and check whether the flicker follows a particular game or brightness setting.
If HDR looks dull
- Enable HDR in the operating system and in the game; enabling only one side can produce an incorrect image.
- Run the operating system’s HDR calibration tool and adjust the game’s paper-white setting.
- Remember that DisplayHDR 400 IPS and limited-brightness OLED displays cannot produce the same highlight intensity as a full-brightness OLED example.
If OLED text looks unusual
Set the operating system to its recommended scaling, inspect text at your normal viewing distance and compare a browser, document and game HUD. If colored edges remain distracting, use the return period rather than disabling panel-care functions or assuming a firmware change will eliminate every subpixel characteristic.
Quick Recap
Bottom line: pick by priority
- Best affordable all-rounder: LG UltraGear 27GR83Q-B, provided its local price and stock are competitive.
