It provides a web panel, Discord integration, kits, economy features and a live map. Allocs Server Fixes is not optional: it supplies the API CSMM uses.
If you run a Linux server and prefer a free command-line workflow, LinuxGSM is the practical alternative. Windows administrators may prefer RAT 5, while AMP and Pterodactyl suit people who specifically want a broader hosting panel. The right choice depends less on a feature checklist than on your operating system, whether you need a web interface, and how much setup you are willing to maintain.

Best 7 Days to Die server manager: the short list
| Tool | Best fit | Interface | Cost model | Important dependency or caveat |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CSMM + Allocs Server Fixes | Communities needing a web panel, Discord features and live administration | Web panel, Discord integration and game-server API | CSMM and Allocs are listed as free | Allocs Server Fixes must be installed first; setup is more involved than a chat-only bot |
| LinuxGSM | Self-managed Linux servers and administrators comfortable with a terminal | Command line | Free and open source | A project issue reports a 7 Days to Die startup problem involving a newer ControlPanel property name |
| Pterodactyl | Operators already running a Pterodactyl-based VPS or hosting cluster | Web control panel | Panel and infrastructure costs depend on your deployment | The 7 Days to Die egg is listed with default ports 26900–26902 and 8080–8082; support is confirmed at the egg-listing level |
| AMP | Users wanting a commercial, proprietary game-server panel | Web panel | Paid | 7 Days to Die-specific feature claims come from a listing and should be checked against AMP’s current documentation |
| RAT 5 | Windows server owners looking for a free manager | Windows application | Free listing | The available listing gives little technical detail, despite showing a recent update |
| BotMan | Discord-first moderation and administration | Discord chat | Not stated | It is a bot rather than a full web control panel |
| ServerTools | In-game administration without a separate panel | In-game chat commands | Not stated | Provides teleports, homes, zones, anti-grief and admin commands |
| Shin Server Tools | Server-side administrative tools with minimal player friction | In-game/server-side mod | Not stated | Players do not need a client-side mod to join |
No published user-count, market-share or survey figures were found for these projects, so popularity claims should not be treated as measured statistics. One comparison that places CSMM first is operated by a 7 Days to Die hosting company that sells servers with CSMM preloaded; use that ranking as a lead, not as independent market evidence.

A manager sits between the game server process and the people running it. Depending on the product, it can start or stop the process, expose console functions, execute administrator commands, manage player permissions, show logs, and provide a remote interface. Mods and bots add another layer: they can offer homes, kits, economy systems, teleportation, anti-grief rules or Discord commands, but they do not all control the underlying process.
#1 Best Overall
- Explore – Huge, rich environments, with unique biomes and worlds up to 100 square kilometres in size.
- Craft – Handcraft and repair weapons, clothes, armour, tools, vehicles, with hundreds of recipes and schematics.
- Build – Design your fort with traps, electricity, auto turrets, and gadgets to survive in a fully destructible and mouldable world.
- Cooperate or Compete – Work together to build settlements or against each other in a wasteland where zombies and outlaws rule the land.
- A must-have for collectors and fans of Open-World Survival Horror, the 7 Days to Die – Console Edition Survival Bundle includes the following: An exclusive Artbook with over 100 pages showcasing never-before-seen illustrations of the zombie apocalypse, a CD featuring the haunting Original Soundtrack (OST) of the game, a double-sided poster, Fine art prints x3, Sticker sheets x 3, the physical game, and a collectible tuck-in box housing all the contents.
That distinction matters when choosing a 7dtd server admin panel. A web panel such as CSMM or Pterodactyl is useful for remote access and multiple administrators. A server-side mod such as ServerTools or Shin is more focused on player-facing commands. A Discord bot such as BotMan is convenient for a community that already handles moderation in Discord, but it is not a substitute for backups, process supervision or host-level access.
CSMM and Allocs Server Fixes: the default recommendation
Why this combination stands out
CSMM (Catalysm’s Server Manager & Monitor) combines a browser-based administration panel with Discord integration, kits, economy features and a live map. That breadth makes it the strongest general choice when several moderators need to manage one community without logging directly into the host.
CSMM does not communicate with an unmodified server by itself. Allocs Server Fixes supplies the API that CSMM calls, so the two should be treated as one installation. Installing only the panel is the most common failure pattern: the interface may load, but commands and status data will not work until the server-side mod is present and compatible.
What to verify before installation
- Confirm that your current 7 Days to Die server version is supported by both projects. Versions and compatibility change, so check the projects’ own documentation immediately before deployment.
- Install Allocs Server Fixes on the game server before configuring CSMM.
- Check the existing Allocs installation by running the
versioncommand through the server console or RCON. - Review
webserver.xmlsettings if you intend to use the live map. The Catalysm documentation describes permissions that must be enabled for map access. - Create the required web token and treat it like a password. Anyone who obtains it may be able to call the API with the permissions attached to that token.
Practical CSMM setup sequence
- Back up the server. Save the world, configuration files and existing mod directory before changing the installation.
- Install Allocs Server Fixes. Follow the version-specific instructions from the project documentation, then restart the server.
- Check the mod from console or RCON. Run
versionand confirm that the server reports the expected Allocs component rather than an old or missing build. - Configure web access. Apply the required
webserver.xmlpermissions for any live-map functions you plan to expose. - Create and store the web token securely. Do not paste it into public Discord channels, screenshots or support tickets. Rotate it if it has been disclosed.
- Connect CSMM to the API. Enter the server address, API details and token in the CSMM configuration, then test a read-only operation before enabling destructive commands.
- Add administrators by role. Give moderators only the commands they need. Keep restart, ban and configuration privileges limited to trusted operators.
- Test from outside the host. Check the panel, Discord commands, player lookup and live map from a separate machine or account. This catches firewall, bind-address and permission mistakes early.
Multiple setup guides exist, but the project’s own documentation is the appropriate authority for current paths and configuration names. The location of that documentation can change, so do not rely on an old guide copied into a forum post.

CSMM trade-offs
- Strength: One place for web administration, Discord workflows, kits, economy and a map.
- Strength: Suitable for communities with several moderators who should not all receive shell access.
- Cost: CSMM and Allocs are listed as free, although your server, storage and hosting still have their own costs.
- Weakness: More moving parts than a chat-only bot. The game version, Allocs build, API token, web permissions and panel configuration must all agree.
- Weakness: A leaked token is an administrative security incident, not merely a login inconvenience.
LinuxGSM for a self-managed Linux server
LinuxGSM is a free, open-source command-line tool for administrators who run their own Linux machine. It is a strong fit when your priorities are repeatable process management, shell-based automation and low software cost rather than a graphical panel.
Choose LinuxGSM when
- You already maintain a Linux VPS or dedicated server.
- You are comfortable using SSH, service logs and file permissions.
- You want a lightweight tool that can be incorporated into your own scripts and monitoring.
- Your moderators do not need a browser dashboard or Discord command layer.
LinuxGSM limitation to check
A LinuxGSM project issue reports a 7 Days to Die startup bug associated with a newer ControlPanel property name. That report does not establish that every current installation fails, but it does mean you should test startup and restart behavior on the exact game and LinuxGSM versions you intend to run. If a server starts manually but fails under LinuxGSM, compare the generated configuration with the property names expected by your installed game build and consult the project’s current issue tracker.
LinuxGSM does not replace game-specific administration mods. If you need kits, homes, economy, a live map or Discord commands, you may still need Allocs, CSMM or another server-side tool alongside the process manager.

Pterodactyl as a 7dtd server admin panel
Pterodactyl is useful when 7 Days to Die is one workload inside a broader hosting environment. Its listed 7 Days to Die egg uses SteamCMD and specifies default ports 26900–26902 and 8080–8082. The egg can be imported through Admin Area → Nests → Import Egg by uploading the egg JSON.
Rank #3
- Unlimited hours of gameplay
- Explore - Huge, unique and rich environments, offering the freedom to play the game however you want
- Craft - craft and repair weapons, clothes, armour, tools, vehicles, and more
- Build - Take over a ruin, or build from the ground-up. Design your fortress to include traps and defensive positions to survive the undead
- Cooperate or Compete - Includes two player split screen mode, with support for up to 4 players online, in Player versus Player, co-op survival, or co-op creative modes
Important Pterodactyl checks
- The egg listing was last updated on 2024-06-14, so verify that its variables and startup command still match the current game server before deploying it.
- The game eggs are maintained in a GitHub repository, but an issue indicates that the project may have moved or been forked. Confirm the current repository location instead of bookmarking an old path.
- A separate issue reports a startup telnet “Connection refused” error. The same report notes that the default port 8080 can overlap with Node.js, so inspect every node and allocation for port collisions.
- Pterodactyl’s support for 7 Days to Die is confirmed at the egg-listing level; that is narrower evidence than a current, first-party game-specific support statement.
Pterodactyl is therefore best viewed as infrastructure management. It can standardize allocations, containers and access for a hosting operation, but you may still need Allocs or another mod for in-game administration features.
AMP, RAT 5 and the remaining tools
AMP
AMP is a paid, proprietary panel. It may be attractive if you want a commercial interface and support model, but the available 7 Days to Die feature list comes from a third-party listing rather than a verified current AMP documentation page. Confirm that the current release supports your game version, configuration format and desired functions before paying or migrating.
RAT 5
RAT 5 is listed as a free Windows server manager and shows a recent update, but the listing provides little technical detail. Treat it as a candidate for a Windows host, not as a proven replacement for CSMM or LinuxGSM. Check its release notes, supported game build and backup behavior before placing a production world on it.

BotMan is a Discord-focused bot with administrative commands. It is the simplest fit when your staff already work in Discord and need chat-driven actions. Because it is not described as a full process-control panel, pair it with a reliable host-level restart and backup plan.

- Explore & Craft - Huge, unique and rich environments, offering the freedom to play the game any way you want while you craft and repair weapons, clothes, armor, tools, vehicles, and more.
- Build - Take over a ruin, or build from the ground-up. Design your fortress to include traps and defensive positions to survive the undead - the world is fully destructible and moldable.
- Cooperate or Compete - Includes two player split screen mode, with additional online multiplayer modes and features to be revealed in the near future.
- Create - Unleash your creativity and build the ultimate world by yourself friends. Enjoy unlimited access to nearly 400 in-game items and 1,200 unique building blocks in creative mode.
- Improve - Increase your skills in a multitude of active and passive disciplines. 7 to Die is the only true survival RPG with nearly 50 multi-tiered skill and perk groups.
ServerTools
ServerTools adds in-game chat commands for teleports, homes, zones, anti-grief controls and administration. It is appropriate when players and moderators should perform actions inside the game rather than through a browser. It does not provide the same web-panel workflow as CSMM.
Shin Server Tools
Shin Server Tools is a server-side mod that adds administrative tools without requiring joining players to install a client-side mod. That lowers friction for a public server, since players can connect with an unmodified client while administrators use the server’s added commands.

Common installation failures and recovery
CSMM loads but cannot control the server
Check that Allocs Server Fixes is installed on the game server, not only on the machine hosting the panel. Run version through console or RCON, confirm the API address and re-enter the token. If the token was exposed, revoke or replace it and update every trusted integration.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The live map is blank or inaccessible
Review the relevant webserver.xml permissions and confirm that the server account used by CSMM has map access. Test the map after restarting the game server and panel so stale configuration is not mistaken for a current setting.

Pterodactyl reports a telnet connection refusal
Check the egg’s startup variables, the game process log and the allocation assigned to the server. Ensure that the telnet/API port expected by the egg is listening and that 8080 is not already occupied by Node.js or another service. Change the allocation deliberately rather than editing one port in isolation.
LinuxGSM starts manually but not through the manager
Compare the game’s current configuration property names with the LinuxGSM script version. The reported ControlPanel naming issue is a reminder to test the exact combination of game build and manager release. Capture the startup log before changing several variables at once.
A moderator can do more than intended
Reduce role permissions in CSMM or the chosen bot, rotate leaked tokens, and separate routine player support from restart, ban and configuration authority. Keep host credentials out of shared chat channels.
Security and maintenance checklist
- Back up the world and configuration before installing or updating a mod, panel or egg.
- Restrict panel, RCON and API ports with the host firewall and provider-level rules where available.
- Use unique, secret tokens; the CSMM web token functions as a password.
- Give each moderator the minimum permissions required for their role.
- Test a restore, not only a backup, before calling the server protected.
- After every game update, verify Allocs, CSMM, LinuxGSM scripts or Pterodactyl egg variables before reopening the server.
- Record the working port map, mod versions and configuration changes so another administrator can recover the service.
Final recommendation
Choose CSMM with Allocs Server Fixes when you want the most capable community-facing manager: web administration, Discord integration, kits, economy and a live map. Choose LinuxGSM when a Linux command line is enough and you value a free, scriptable process manager. Use Pterodactyl mainly when it already fits your hosting infrastructure, and approach AMP or RAT 5 only after confirming current 7 Days to Die compatibility. For narrower needs, BotMan, ServerTools and Shin Server Tools can be simpler than deploying a full panel.
Whatever you install, verify compatibility against the current game release and the project’s own documentation. Tool versions, egg repositories, port defaults and panel support can change independently of the game.
